Dr. Mandel is a great pediatrician. He really explains things so that not only does the parent understand, but the child does as well. He works with the patient to help them understand the disease as well as the treatment - always reminding the parent and child that you are a kid first. Great doctor!

Me: "Why was I given a generic antibiotic for my sinus infection?"
Kaiser Operator: "The brand you had before is too expensive."
Me: "The previous meds did a better job and had less side effects."
Kaiser Operator: "They were more expensive and Kaiser has to recover it's costs and make a profit."
Me: "That's not right."
Kaiser Operator: "We have to make a profit someway."

My 5 year old daughter has had a urinary tract infection 3 times yet Kaiser refuses to treat it with the correct antibiotics or even look at a urine sample unless it is uncontaminated (80% of all urine samples are contaminated). When the second & totally obvious urinary tract infection affected my daugther & she couldn't walk we had to take her to Doernbachers childrens hospital where the ER doctor had her take a urine sample & just by looking at how cloudy the urine was, knew right away it was a UTI & prescribed the correct medication. We alerted her Kaiser doctor to what had happened after the fact & she was "embarrassed" & said it wouldn't happen again. Sure enough, 6 months later, another UTI & Kaiser has yet to look at any underlying problems that can be causing it. Their phone fence of nurses do the best they can to keep their profit margins up by ensuring you don't get in until you can get a urine sample from a 5 year old their lab can test, which means another trip to the ER since the odds in getting a successful sample are 1 in 5. Why can't they just have a doctor LOOK at the sample, especially when there is an underlying chronic problem? My guess is...too much money & not enough proof to fight them on it without a testable lab sample. Disgusting. They want you to "thrive" so they don't have to do anything for you. I will be buying private insurance asap for my daughter since this is criminal.

Pros: better than nothing?

Cons: a fence of ignorant "nurses" to climb over to get care

I have made six different attempts to schedule an appointment. I keep getting transferred around, and I've been hung up on all six times by now. The phone operators are horrible! Good luck scheduling an appointment.

Pros: no pros

Cons: feel like a number, and awful phone service

Seems like I always have to be seen by 3 different people to figure out what's wrong with me. If you want to know something then ask because no one will explain much. Most of the doctors I've seen there don't listen very well either and don't take my concerns seriously.

Pros: atleast I have health insurance

Cons: I never feel like my concerns are properly addressed

I had severe acne and they wouldn't let me have Accutane, which I got later, and it really helped, when I changed my insurance and changed doctors.
