I placed an order Dec 30 and was told 3-4 weeks. By the end of Jan I had heard nothing. Sent an email asking for an update. They ignored me. A week later I sent a second email. They ignored that too. Then I decided to defy the instructions on their website and call as well. The voicemail was full! I figured this was a terrible sign, so I wrote a third email saying that they must not be in business anymore and that I was going to check my credit card and dispute any charges.

THAT they answered and said that if I bothered to read their site I'd know that they only charge my card when they start my order. So they were canceling my order.

I wrote back to say that I still wanted it but would wait if they could tell me how long it would actually take.

They ignored me again. I resent the email, and they replied telling me that people who threaten to dispute charges are bad customers and never happy so they didn't want to deal with someone like me. They suggested I take my business elsehwere.

These people are absurd. And since they're old and retired and don't need your money, they feel no need to offer any level of customer service.

Don't waste your time!

I have ordered from LDS several times in the past and was always happy with the service. I read the recent bad reviews but against my better judgment and based on my previous experience I placed a new order anyway. Right off the bat, I had a gut feeling this may not work as well this time.

Placing the order was difficult. I left a few messages and kept trying but always got a machine. When I finally got the lady on the phone, placing the order seemed rushed. Unlike before, when they went over the options with me, she just jotted down whatever I told her. I found it strange, but, no big deal. Hopefully she really wrote it down! I was not given a total amount due nor an order number. I was told order should ship in about 30 days as it was straight-forward.

A couple of days later I was thinking about making a slight change to the collar, and called, again not able to get anyone on the phone. I emailed using their website email set-up (this unfortunately does not leave a sent message in my mailbox, nor does it confirm that an email was received). No answer at all.

2 weeks later I followed up on the status and to discuss the change. Still no answer.

3-4 weeks after placing the order I decided to cancel it (nothing had been charged to my card which I think they do once they cut the leather). Their cancellation form on the website does NOT work but per website, that is the only way to cancel an order. Ha! So I emailed again via website email set-up, that I was getting nervous about not having a total amount, order number, nor any replies to my inquiries, and that I wish to cancel the order so I can order it somewhere else. This is the reply I finally received:

"I am not quite sure what has made you nervous since your order was placed only three weeks ago. At any rate, your collar was completed Tuesday. Because of severe tornados and storms here it was not able to ship until this morning. Enjoy your collar."

As you can see on the web, other people have gotten similar responses - always blaming it on holidays or weather! Since still I had not been charged for the collar (odd, considering it has been made and had shipped), I emailed them back to ask what the total was and when to expect the charge. Again no reply. Of course, I already knew they were lying in the email.

Needless to say, 4 weeks later and the collar never arrived, and the card was never charged. Do they think we are total idiots? Why do they have to treat people like this? Lies and disrespect is all you get. Terrible, terrible customer service!

I emailed them again last week, this order is to be considered cancelled. No reply. To prevent them from filling it a year down the road (I do not trust them), I requested a new card number (my cc company does not block companies).

So, 8 weeks and a bit of hassle later, no collar.

This is a company that two years ago made me a wonderful leash totally made to order with MY measurements that I faxed to them - there was a lot of communication back and forth. I just don't know what happened or why they have to do this.

Around Feb. or Mar. 2010, I ordered Do it all and Traditional leashes from the company by phone and paid by credit card. The female customer service told me that it would take approx. 2 to 3 months to receive the products. After 2 months, I called to follow up my order and spoke with another female customer service (she sounded like a different person to me). I was asked to provide my order number which I told her that I didn't have any order number. She couldn't find my order and informed me that if I didn't have order number, there was no order. I was very confused and upset that I had to wait for 2 months for nothing but got over it. I ordered the leashes from another company and received my order within a week.

On November, 2010, I received an email stating that there was something shipped from this company to me. I called the company to see what it was and found that it was my 8 months ago order. I explained to the female customer service that I spoke with another female customer service and she couldn't find my order and she told me that there was no order. This female customer service told me that there was no other female customer service working there. She said that she was the person who spoke with me on that day and the company had never issued order number (it goes by customer name). If it really her who I spoke with on the follow up day, why did she ask me my order number? Why did she not tell me when I should expect to see my order? It seemed that the company might behind the schedule at that time and tried to confuse the customer. She told me that it stated clearly on the company policy website that it could take up to 360 days to receive the products and there was no cancellation over the phone. Although, I told her that I was misinformed that the company hadn't had my order and I would like to return the products and receive a refund, she kept referring to the company website policy that custom made order couldn't be refunded and 6 to 8 months were reasonable duration for producing custom made product. I went to the company policy website and found that the custom made should take only 30 to 120 days to be delivered. Either the company provides a fault advertisement regarding the delivery time on their website or they lost my order and found it 8 months later, then try to push it on the customer.

I filed a complaint with BBB and the company refused to compromise.

Didn't think I would have to research a hand crafted leather dog collar but now that I have experience what others have here, I should have.

My experience is like most others here. I would say I am willing to wait for quality, but really...it's a dog collar.

There are plenty of other US made collars available that none of us have to put up with poor service.

I know they just moved and our now a division of Phoenix Leathers USA. I wonder if they know what they bought.

I will be forwarding a copy of an email I received from LDS to Phoenix Leathers to see if they agree with the language and professionalism of their newest division.

Here's a sample:
"If you need to order from someone else, please do. but please leave us alone and let us work, okay? The more phone calls and emails we have to answer and the mnore hands we have to hold, the longer our back log gets."

This was the "nice" part.

Why repeat what's in the other reviews which are dead accurate? Very simply, do not do business with these people. It's a complete waste of your time.

In all my years of buying products on the internet I have never experienced such rudeness. I urge everyone to check the BBB rating of this company which is an F (scale of A+ to F) so that certainly tells you something!

I purchased a service vest, medical patches and a laminated medical card for my service dog. The workmanship is so-so. Kinda shlocky, but passable. But the worst is the photo ID card. Incomplete address, no dog name, no contact info, photo the size of a postage stamp. They said I didn't fill in the information. I say their computer formatting doesn't work. I requested a courtesy redo. The customer service rep got pesonal, accused me of being rude and hung up on me. Wow!
I spent $114 altogether (a lot of $$ for me). I'll never buy here again.

If you want a great example of a company that has no idea how much bad customer service can affect business, go with LDS Leather Company.

Sure, the collars, etc, are good. Anything that's hand-made and "custom" should be. But the problem isn't with the craftsmanship...it's with the "brains" side of the business. Apparently, they're lacking in that department. If you're lucky, you'll get your product in under six weeks (I'm not exaggerating). If you're average, you'll get it in six weeks (that's they're policy, according to what they told me on the phone). But if they're having a bad day, week, or month, you'll get it whenever they feel like it, and along they way they'll 1) answer the phone and either be nice or total jerks, depending on their mood, 2) NOT return calls at all, and/or 3) totally ignore emails sent through their "contact us" page (don't even bother).

All of this, as smart (hell...AVERAGE) business people know, can be fixed by simply hiring someone who can keep the place organized and make a daily effort to be cordial on the phone. Not exactly brain surgery. LDS Leather operates like it's an old married couple working out of their basement...and after multiple dealings with these people, I'm pretty sure they are. This isn't a real company...it's a hobby. There are serious issues with customer service, and apparently the "owners" no desire to fix it.

If you want a custom collar, look elsewhere, and get good craftsmanship AND good service.

It's hard to wait for something good...sort of like waiting for Christmas when you're a kid but sometimes it's worth it. I ordered my harness, collar and leash (all matching in black with turquoise studs, stainless steel buckles and silver stitching) from LDS Leather in July and just got it yesterday (September 25). It's gorgeous. It fits perfectly and it's just what I wanted. LDS Leather products, at least mine, put the pet store garbage to shame. As I was traveling through Norman on my way home from visiting family, I made arrangements to pick up my order. I met all four of the LDS Leather staff and they were so nice to me. Karen is blind, which I didn't know and she does all the design work. She's amazing. If you want something nice that is hand made, I highly recommend. If speed is more important than quality, go somewhere else. I make custom jewelry and I know from experience, being rushed is no fun. I get testy, too, when customers won't leave me alone to get my work done. I really don't know why "when" is so important. I've cancelled orders for a couple of naggers, too.

I ordered 2 collars on 3/27. The expected lead time was 30 days. 8 weeks after I placed the order I emailed several times and finally got a response. It was going to ship next week (week 9). I sent an email (week 10)after it never arrived and I never got any shipping info. I was told it would ship at the latest Friday of that week because they were going on "a much deserved vacation". Early the next week still no info on shipping so I email again. I get a nasty response and she cancels my order. I called today (June 9) to try and get an explanation and I was yelled at and hung up on by a man I had not spoken to before. I emailed then one more time to extend the olive branch and I had it thrown back in my face by her clarifying that she had canceled my order weeks ago.

What a waste of 2.5 months. All I got was some attitude and a few emails.

Pros: In Theory they make nice stuff... if you can get them to make it and mail it to you

Cons: They don't seem to do any actual work. Very rude and confrontational. Act as if customers time is unimportant

Stay far far away from LDS Leather! I submitted an order in mid-March and was really excited about getting my custom made product. Since then I've heard nothing, received nothing and 3 attempts to contact someone at their company has been fruitless. Their system forces you to voicemail or hangs up on you instead of actually allowing you to talk to customer service. At once point I got slammed with a recording about how busy they were from "End-Year" orders and that they couldn't give status over the phone - it's APRIL!!! At this point I want to cancel but I can't get any REAL person on the phone to cancel my order and give my business to someone else.
