Well, I have owned a horse for 2 years and I wanted to board it at Black Bottom, but as soon as I saw those outrageus prices, I said no. The tack shop is nice, but the school horses are poorly trained. I wouldn't go there for the convience, because your safety comes first.

Black Bottom Stables is not only for the English rider. I have been a boarder there for 10 years and know that lessons are offered in Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat, and Jumping. It is up to the rider to pick a discipline.\r\n.ridingidamay? February 16, 2010 at 18:40:49 PST \r\nLearning to ride with other horses in the arena is the most valuable thing a rider can learn, control of you horse is a must, and what better way to learn than by riding with multiple horses in an arena. Its also teaches riders about horse behavior. I am a recreational rider and value the experience trainers that have taught me how to handle the horse I bought without proffessional help. For me, the less experienced equestrian, Black Bottom is worth every dime spent. \r\n.ridingidamay? February 16, 2010 at 18:44:09 PST \r\nThe equipment sold in the tack shop is second to none. Remember, "" you get what you pay for"". You will not find a better tack shop in the Charleston area!\r\n

Pros: Great Trainers

Black Bottom is a nice place overall. Everyone i've come into contact with while visiting has been friendly and helpful. Black Bottom is very much catered towards that english show rider and not the western pleasure rider. I've ridden at Black Bottom about 4 times on a boarders horse and the place isn't that large so you're usually sharing the covered areana with 2-6 other riders. The tack shop is very nice but VERY expensive. They sell everything from saddles to Breyer Model Horses. I wouldn't recommend doing your shopping at the tack shop due to the prices but if you want to take lessons and ride english it would be a nice place to check out. They charge around $400.00 a horse for pasture board only. Mares are kept in one field all together and geldings are kept in another field all together.

Pros: Clean, Tack Shop

Cons: Expensive, Lack of parking, Small riding area, 99% english riders
