My partner and I are the proud parents of a 10 month old purebred German Shepard male puppy named Cyrus. After utilizing WagTime for his grooming since he was 3 months old but witnessing while dropping him off one morning a staff member kick another dog in their boarding area we choose to server ties with WagTime and look for a new groomer we could establish a relationship with. Trying to find a high quality groomer within DC that can handle large breed dogs is difficult so when we were recommended to Happy Paws by our dog walker we were excited to see a professional site, all the grooming services he requires, and that they are based in DC. We called, got information on the process for new clients and booked an appointment for the following Tuesday (today). I was thoroughly shocked upon arriving that the staff member (probably owner, older female) said she had no record of our grooming appointment and was extremely rude and cavalier attitude. I informed her we not only called and booked an appointment but also had their intake forms completed and a copy of his vaccination records from City Paws.

To take a day off from work while my partner is at a medical conference to drive myself and my 80lb adorable puppy across town during morning rush hour traffic to what we hoped would be a great groomers we could start using on a regular basis and to be treated with such disrespect, spoken to as if I'm mistaken and was at the wrong business by a staff member/owner who showed ZERO interest in resolving the problem or rescheduling the appointment (which wasn't offered, I had to ask) only shows how unprofessional and borderline raciest this business and its staff is.

I will be sure to contact both my personal and professional colleagues and share how this business operates so that they don't waste as I have invaluable time and potential long-term money.

I just got finished reading the review from a disgruntled Happy Paws client and I felt compelled to throw in my two cents. I have left my Lab at Happy Paws an several occasions when visit the DC area on business.
I only wish that every city I travel to had such a first rate establishment. I found the staff to be down right friendly, well trained and helpful. No fuss, no mess and definitely no bad attitudes. I would recommend them to anyone who really cares about his dog. Please do not try to save a buck at the animal's expense. Pass on your next Big Mac.

My dog has been groomed at Happy Paws twice and I will no longer take him to this establishment. I was very happy with the actual grooming but the owner, Stefanie Duval, is quite possibly one of the most unprofessional business owners I have ever met. Upon taking my dog to Happy Paws the first time they did not have him ready on time, delaying our schedule to leave town. I was very understanding that our trip was delayed by 3 hours but was met with less than friendly and outright rude behavior from the owner. My fiance convinced me that "everyone has a bad day" and to give them another chance. I did, and long story short, was again treated with extremely rude behavior from the owner. I will say that in a phone conversation she used the phrases "fine. whatever" and then essentially hung up on me. I immediately left work (in the middle of the day) picked up my dog and informed her we would no longer be giving her our business. She tried to excuse her behavior by saying she works long days (join the club) among other completely invalid excuses. I want to support locally owned small businesses and find it unfortunate that I would rather go to PetSmart and pay $20 less and hopefully be treated with a little respect. Ms. Duval needs to reconsider how she treats her customers in an economy where there are lots of choices and small businesses need the consumer more than ever.

We have been taking our Westies to Happy Paws for almost six months and can't speak more highly of the care they have received and the positive experiences that they clearly have with the staffers and other dogs. Our dogs have been daycare guests about 50 times and overnight guests at least a dozen times; once they realize where we are heading in the morning, they tug on their leashes toward the Happy Paws entrance, and they are invariably happy and exhausted at the end of the day, which are two surefire ways that we know Happy Paws is doing something--actually, numerous things--right.

First, the webcam footage indicates that our Westies are practically spoiled by the caring staffers, who are constantly monitoring and playing with the dogs; on numerous occasions, we have seen one staffer holding our dogs in her lap and brushing them.

Second, the staffers are very observant of and attentive to the needs of each dog. Although the dogs are separated by size and age, the staffers will consider putting our dogs in with the bigger ones if there isn't enough company in the small dog room to keep them stimulated and as long as such a move would be safe.

Third, in addition to the safe and fun socialization opportunities our dogs can take advantage of, we are comforted by how immaculate the facility is, far more so than the many other daycare facilities in the area we have visited. The staffers are constantly cleaning each room; I smell the fragrant cleaning solution whenever I walk in the door, and frankly, the dogs come home smelling better than they do when they walk in.

And finally, all of the staffers, including Stefanie Duval, the owner of Happy Paws, are incredibly professional, courteous, and obviously happy to be there. They know our dogs well and make clear how much they value us as clients. Most recently, we had booked a seven-night holiday stay for our dogs. The weather-prompted cancellation of numerous flights, however, resulted in us bringing the dogs in three days late, then picking them up that day, because we ultimately couldn't fly out of the area at all for the holidays. Rather than asking us to use up any of the nights in our pre-paid, 20-night overnight package (an excellent deal, btw), Stefanie told us that we wouldn't have to expend any of them. Only at our insistence did she charge us for two "daycare" days (one day for each dog) our of our daycare package. This is truly exemplary service.

In short, we wouldn't want to take our dogs anywhere else.

This is an update on a review from last year. We have been taking our two small dogs to Happy Paws for almost two years now for day care, grooming, and boarding, and we could not be more thrilled with the atmosphere and services which the people there provide. Not only are the staff members unfailingly considerate and cheerful but they have recently re-modeled the floorplan to enlarge the day care space to one large room with natural sunlight throughout the area. Our dogs are very happy to return to Happy Paws each time we take them there, which is a testament to the caring environment. The space is viewable on the live video feed on their website which makes it easy to see how well the dogs are dealing with the socialization. We highly recommend Happy Paws to anyone who wants a bright, safe, caring atmosphere for their dog.

Happy Paws has been terrific for my miniature schnauzer. Love the grooming and care she receives. Recommend highly. Location is very handy, and well kept. People have been caring and understanding when Daisey has been matted. Our regular place now. Jim T.

I love the service and the people at Happy Paws and moreover, so does my dog. Before Happy Paws opened, I had tried a couple of doggie daycares in the area. They were so-so, but my dog never seemed excited to be there and always came back smelling terrible. Now, I can barely get out of the car before Jake drags me to Happy Paws door. They are careful not to have too many dogs in the "daycare" and it is clean. The staff seems to really be attached to many of the pets and they are so personable and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Lastly, I know when I leave my little guy for just a day or a long weekend that he is going to get the best care and attention available.

We have a 5 year old Shih Tzu and ever since she was born we have been struggling to find a competent and trustworthy groomer in or near the city. And as far as we were concerned, that place did not exist. Until we found Happy Paws! They are by far the best place in the city to have your dog groomed. Our dog has NEVER looked so amazing and has NEVER come home from a groomer begging to go back! I think she would rather live there than with us!

If you are struggling to find a place that just knows how to treat animals and knows how to make them look their best, look no further! Happy Paws is the place for you!

PROS: Convenient location, amazing staff, dog-friendly "crate-less" set-up, and beautiful haircuts.
CONS: Didn't find them sooner!!
