I had been filling my prescriptions at a Sam's near my job on the Westbank. One prescription - 30 pills each refill - cost about $5. I recently had a prescription for the same drug filled at the Sam's on Airline Highway. The quantity had been increased to 45 per refill. I didn't think to check the price when I left the store, but felt I'd spent more money than expected. When I checked the receipt, I had been charged $37 for the prescription! More than 7 times as much for 50% more pills.

Yesterday, I returned to the Sam's on Airline and asked the pharmacist if they'd made a mistake in pricing. After asking if I'd changed insurance (I hadn't, I'm one of those working uninsured people), she told me that Sam's does not charge the same price at all its stores, even within the same area. Apparently, they match the prices of other competitors in some area near each store. She even called the West Bank store to confirm the pricing and that they were matching a competitor's price.

The Airline store obviously doesn't consider the one on the West Bank a competitor, but for $30+ bucks a month, I can certainly make the drive. Or find some pharmacy on this side of the river with a better price.

I'm amazed that a company that competes on its low price reputation has such a pricing policy. Beware!
