I have been involved with Weldy Home for Children for several years. I lived there for a few years and was treated like a normal teenager. It was the best place to be if I couldn't live in my own home when DHR placed me there. The Herndons were okay people and they did have their favorites, but that was okay for me. I look at those favorites today and see how they have turned out in life and thank God I was not one of their favorites. They finally retired and maybe now no favorites exist. The other lady that works there - Miss Tina was strict, but was always fair and treated all of us equal. She was always taking up for us and trying to teach us to be ready to be out on our own one day. I will always appreciate her and what all she did and continues to do for all the girls that live at Weldy. I continue to keep in touch with Weldy Home through church activities we do for Weldy. We donate personal hygiene products to help when a new girl is placed there by DHR.
I had a few minutes to be on the internet and had heard Weldy Home has a new website and while searching for it I found this site and read the 3 reviews. I must say that I was shocked by 2 of the comments and smiled at the third one. The girl named Rebecca knows what the Weldy Home was/ is really about. The other 2 seem to have a wrong idea of what they are talking about unless they were parents that lost their children to DHR because they were unfit. And if so I understand the ugliness in their remarks because strangers were/are taking better care of their children.
To respond to some of the 2 people's comments about Weldy Home from someone who lived there and now visits inorder to give back out of respect. The comment about counseling - we did receive counseling if our DHR worker thought we needed it. Most needed counseling because of the abuse we received in our homes before God blessed us with safety when DHR stepped in to help. And the need for counseling after leaving was due to some having to return to homes where family only pretended to change long enough to get their child back and then resort to their old ways of not really being a parent. The comment about shopping - due to privacy reasons - the money used came from DHR not Weldy Home. Helloooooo! When you are in care of DHR they are required to give the children money when they first move in, every month, and around special times of the year. Hellooooo! People need to know what they are talking about before they allow the words to flow like water. And as far as children getting to be like normal teenagers - most of the girls do if the judge that oversees their case allows them to go and do because of safety due to unfit parents. Some that did not and do not get to go and do is because they act like wild people that have never had good parents to raise them. I guess that is why the children end up at Weldy Home for Children - UNFIT PARENTS!!!!!!!!

The Weldy Home is dysfunctional with a BIG capital D.
They have their favorites. But is you mess up once you fall from grace. Most of the girls placed in the home does not get the help they really need. They should all be in counseling. They sure do not get it long enough. I will say this they take the girls shopping.
They beg for money/supplies all the time but have the money to shop every weekend. What does that really teach the girls!
This place really makes me sad. The girls are not allowed to do much outside of the home. Meaning have a regular social life.
It really is almost like a prison. Most girls bust out when they are 18. You have a few to stay around after 18 but not many.
I have always hoped this place could get back to what it started out to be. Supported place where young people could grow up in a safe place. Most girls need counseling after they leave. Its sad but very much true. I am sure the people think they have did their best. It is time they take a step back and look. They are problems with any home. But this place really takes the cake.

The things i have heard about the Weldy home.....from several past foster childeren that were placed there(BIG MISTAKE).... say that the owners were cruel and intentially put fear into those childeren. The things i have been told are horrific and should never be done to any child!!!!!!!!! Having 2 of my own I can not imagine if someone put them out in the woods for getting up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. DON'T BE FOOLED THE WELDY HOME IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS FOR THESE CHILDEREN!!!! I hope that the treatment there towards kids is not what it was 15 years ago. The people who tormented these kids know who they are and what I am speaking of.

I myself use to live at the Weldy Home and it was the BEST thing ever the Herndons as well as Miss Tina are really great and treat you as if you were there own so THANKS guys for the three BEST years of my life. I am married now and have my own life but every year at christmas I still get a card from them. It is a wonderful, Christian built home but most important they have love!!
