Went there last night, (04-16-2009), and to get a nice cross section of the available fare, I got a beef sandwich, a pork sandwich, and a chicken sandwich. It's a good thing they were labelled, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart. They all tasted the same (which was only slightly hinting at a BBQ'd flavor). My wife had the ribs which were so tough that you needed a dremel tool to get the meat off the bone. She also got the potato salad, and cole slaw. EVERYTHING was minced! All the meats on my sandwiches was minced, the potato salad was minced, as was the cole slaw.

The "sauce" on the table was really nothing more than ground red pepper and vinegar.

Really nothing here worth going back for. Should you be in the mood for BBQ, there are a BUNCH of other places in the area with better fare, and a shorter wait. Do yourself a favor, and find one of them.

Pros: uhhhh.. I got nothing.

Cons: EVERYTHING is minced.

This is the best barbecue I've ever had. I'm from the Midwest and have been to Huntsville twice for work. The second time being this week, which I volunteered for because of this place. I come from a sauce-heavy region, and know little about BBQ besides the fact that I like to eat it. I did some research the night I flew in to get a feel for Southern Style BBQ, and was later recommended Thomas Pit from a local Huntsvillian.

The place sounded perfect - understated food ("yep, it's real good") and exaggerated frustrations with traffic. I got there at about 4:30 and drive-thru customers were already backing up to the street. So much for the exaggerations. I walked in, after turning around to find an ATM - they only take cash, and looked at the old-school Coca-Cola menu/sign with the pop-in letters. They had sandwiches that seemed to serve as a distraction, then I found the meat. You have a choice of pork, chicken, beef, or ribs, ranging in price from about 6.95 (pork) to 11.00 (ribs) or a combo of 2 for 12.00. You can also pay about $1 more on any of these for a large.

I went with the pork and chicken. Once I tasted the pork, I was immediately concerned that I didn't have enough. I tried it with the hot sauce and with the white sauce. I later told my coworkers, who had no desire to go to Alabama for a week, that it was quite possibly the best meat I'd ever tasted. The chicken was also very good, but I have a hard time distinguishing between good and great chicken - this bird was juicy and the white sauce complemented it well. The sides - potato salad and cole slaw - were too solid to be called mere side items. Everything was so good I had to eat it in proportional bites as to not run out of anything too quickly.

Tonight was as good as I remember (I was afraid I'd overplayed it in my head, and was setup for disappointment). I had the pork and beef plate. The beef was also excellent. I will probably be back later this week to try the ribs.

Good bbq sandwich. Be prepared to wait if you go at lunch time or at 5 p.m. or later. The drive thru is backed out onto the street and twirls around the parking lot.
