This place is excellent to eat breakfast, hands down. BUT you need to know the free parking is limited and the street meters are $1.50 per hour. PAY IT for it is worth it.. Corner of McKindley and N. 1st St in PHX. Also, this place is

I have always meant to write a review of Matt's Big Breakfast because I eat breakfast and lunch there all the time. I try to eat healthy, but I never seem to resist the pancakes. The only con I listed is that there are a lot of hipsters there, so it is faux laid back.

Pros: To die for eggs

If you like I-Hop, don't go to Matt's Big Breakfast. The wait time is already long enough. If you prefer family owned, quaint, fresh and absolutely delicious, there is no better place in Phoenix for breakfast. The waits can be an hour or more for this Phoenix landmark. The wait is well worth it. The small brick building holds about 25 people and is normally full. Matt's Big Breakfast is to breakfast as Los Dos Molinos is to dinner... more than just a restaurant, but an experience.

I love Matt's. The food is very fresh and very good. It is worth the wait. The place is very small and quaint and definitely has that home grown feeling. I would recommend it to anyone.

Arguably THE best breakfast place in Phoenix. With all-natural, fresh farm-raised ingredients, this restaurant was featured on Travel Channel. You can taste the difference since only the highest quality, freshest ingredients are used. Arrive early, as it's common to wait an hour or more to eat here, but it is well worth it. CHECK IT OUT PEOPLE!

I finally made it to Matt's last Sunday. I'd heard a lot about the food and even more about the wait at this little breakfast spot downtown that seats maybe 20 people at a time. Arriving around 10 am our wait was under an hour and the food was delicious. The ingredients were super fresh and the servings generous. The service was friendly and efficient. I would really recommend this place as a special breakfast treat if you have the time -and stomach- to wait.

Whether you are looking for breakfast or lunch, Matt's is the place to go. The food is fresh as can be and always prepared that way. If you like pancakes and waffles, you will not find any better. The same can be said for the butter burger!

Service is always attentive and friendly. Great place for regulars. Small and cozy so the seating is limited so expect a wait of 5-30 minutes but it's well worth it!

Pros: service, great food and always consistent

Cons: sometime a bit of a wait

Editorial from

The breakfasts at this breadbox-size diner are, indeed, big. It's all part of chef-owner Matt Pool's decidedly old-school formula. He begins by using the best ingredients he can find, including cage-free eggs from humanely raised chickens…
