I've reconsidered my initial review which was rather critical of customer service. I still felt unwelcomed at this shop but I could also have misinterpreted some of the clerks manners. I'm still highly critical of what he said to me. My rating still stands and I do not consider my visit to have been a very pleasant one. He did give some of his time to explain some things to me. However, that's his job. Anyway, I probably won't go there again. Honest opinion.

If you are looking for friendly guys, good advice and excellent service, this is your place for trains. I'm new to town and have investigated every hobby shop I can find, and this is the best for trains in my view. Heavy on N scale, but cater to H O as well - which is my scale. Vendor for Accupaint type acetone based paints - which are amazing!

Super freindly, knowledgeable staff. Special orders welcome.

Affair with Trains is good but the focus is more on RTR and large scale stuff. The Freight Yard has a focus on modellers - building and painting, along with serious attention on operations and train control. If you are on the north side of town, The Freight Yard is the place.

You will run into some kindred spirits at The Freight Yard and have some learning experiences and a lot of fun talking with fellow customers. I've gotten some pointers on rail fanning and solved some modelling quandries this way.

It is s small shop and the stock can be low at times, but they started fairly recently so that may change.

If you are an airbrush painter, you HAVE to try the paint they dispense here. Ask for it - it is not on display and is dispensed from large containers in the non-public area at the back of the shop. You will not believe the results you can get with this stuff - and it dries so quickly you can move on to additional coats or decalling in no time.

I recommend this shop. Check it out!
