Congratulations to Danny's Family; the whole bunch.

At first blush, it seemed like a great idea - pay full price for a car wash and get a receipt entitling you to a free "express wash? within 10 days. What a great way to build customer loyalty and satisfaction.

Here's how it worked. You brought your receipt. Gave it to the "writer." They put your car through the wash (sans interior). They dried it at the end, and you drove off a happy customer; sure to return. Genius!

"The worm turns."

Here??s Murphy??s Law in application. With ??Rule? changes, this is how the program now works.

THE FIRST DISSAPPOINTMENT was being denied gas at the pump up to which I had pulled the car, expecting to fill the tank. Even at the ??Car Wash Discounted Price,? Danny??s is making money on the gas. NEW RULE: You get the ??Express Wash,? you pay the full retail for gas. Nice, personal touch. Don??t you think? A real crowd pleaser to be certain. (The good news is that gas is cheaper at ARCO, and after such treatment at Danny??s, I??d rather give my money to British Petroleum anyway.)

THE SECOND DISSAPPOINTMENT was having to sit inside the car as it proceeded through the wash rack. Nice touch, Danny. You really know how to make your customer feel important.

THE FINAL INSULT occurred when the attendants completed drying the car with their rags, but the ??Express Wash? drying bay was not equipped with compressed air hoses, so the side-view mirrors dripped water all over the side of the car as I pulled out on to the street. Water from under the trunk lid washed down the bumper, and as the car gathered speed, water left on the grill splashed up onto the windshield.

This is one for the ??Marketing Text Books? of the future: How to take an initially great, business generating idea, and turn it into a customer insult.

I've had it with these people and will not return. When they did my first oil change 2 years ago I was impressed. 5 or so changes later, I've had it. They try to pressure-sell everything from transmission oil to air filters when all I want is an oil change. Last month they called with a windshield replacement insurance scam "this is your lucky day Mr. ...." which I promptly reported to the insurance company. And today after my son dropped the car off for an oil change they called me to threaten "we are closing due to rain and you have ten minutes to pick up your car before they lock it inside" and called me "Boss" at least twice in the conversation. "Hey boss, you need to come get your car", and "OK, Boss, I'll take care of it." When I told them that I wasn't their customer, that my son was, and that I certainly wasn't their boss, they asked me to call him. When I suggested that it was their responsibility, he said he didn't have the number (they had called him an hour earlier to up-sell him with an $89 transmission oil change) When I called to complain to a manager, I talked to 3 different people that all called themselves "managers"!!! The first one told me "we don't call people "Boss" here." Short story...... I've had it with the constant up-selling and the gross lack of professionalism. The animals have gotten out of the cages and seem to be running the zoo, and they aren't doing a good job of it.

Cons: communication, lack of professionalism, constant upsell, windshield scams.

Buyer beware! Go to Danny's for the discounted gas and you will get more than you bargained for. We had been once, and had avoided the "extras" they wanted to sell me (can't a guy just get his car cleaned), and had actually appreciated the service. Unfortunately, the second time around was 100% worse. Thought we got the same deal, a wash and a vacuum. Found out at the register that we had orderded not just the $15 wash, but the $75 detail as well. Talk about sticker shock. The "service advisor" (these are the guys with the pads writing things in code that the checkout person interprets) had sold us a carpet shampoo without mentioning the word shampoo. Clean the carpets, yes, but that's what a vacuum does. By the time you pay, the car is in the process, in the line and since this was only our second (and last) time, I didn't know that it went to a different place to get the detail.

But wait, there's more...

I did manage to ask how long the "cleaning" would be, as I had appts to get to. I was told 40 minutes. Half an hour after that time passed, I was told another 30 minutes would be needed. That's right, 1 hour over what they had promised. Instead of being late, I had to take my wet, still dirty car (they do the windows last) with some of the seats and car seats and floor mats piled up in the back, and leave.

Here's the best part...

I got another free detail for my inconvienience. But here's the catch, I have to buy another car wash for $15 to get it. So, to redeem any value in this transaction, I must spend $15 to get another $75 service done to fix the other $75 service that I never wanted in the first place.

I am currently sending in a letter to the corporate offices (sometimes going to the head makes a difference) and I will update this post to reflect how that works out. Basically, if you have nowhere else to go, and no water at your house...I'd still take the dirty car!

Pros: Thorough wash, wipes down interior, good if you have kids

Cons: Continually hounded to spend 5 times what you want, and if you don't want it, they sell it to you anyway!

I stoped in to the danny's location to fill up and to pick up some smokes. My experience while in the convience store got off on the wrong foot when I had to wait 5 mins at the front register. There were 2 employees on the floor which appeared to be arguing about something and no one attending the register. When I was about to walk out an old lady came up to the counter and said "What do you want." and totally uninterested in helping me. My mouth droped open. Is this any way to greet customers and make them wanna come back. If this is the new standard of customer service for the store then it has slipped to an ALL TIME LOW. I can tell you this as a result of this older team members actions, I will not be returning to this store ever again.

Pros: The Gas pump worked

Cons: Argumentive coworkers, dirty grounds, Long wait time at register, Unmotivated staff

Friendly, professional staff accomplishes a very detailed and thorough car wash for a very reasonable price. Wait indoors in a clean area equipped with several TVs set to tasteful channels or outdoors in a clean, shaded patio area complete with water features. Makes a "chore" better than tolerable.

Stopped by to have my oil changed. Got a free car wash. Also got worked over by several people trying to "upsell" me $225.00 in services. The issue is that I have already had them all done previously. For instance, they told me that I need a power stearing service, differential service, cooling system service and fuel service. I just had all of that done 45 days ago. Basically, they do not tell the truth and no one seems to care. It is just how they do business. Based on all of the complaints I have read, I guess I should feel lucky that I did not get kicked off of the premises for voiceing my opinion. Be careful. They are not nice people.

Pros: Convenient, at a huge price

Cons: High pressure, dishonest. Expensive

To be short, yesterday I purchased a 2000 BMW M5 with 14,950 miles on it. It was showroom flawless. Not 1 dent what so ever. I take it in to the Danny?s car wash to get a hand wash with a detail. While the car was in the back area for the hand wash (where no customers can look), I waited over 30mins for it to come out. That?s when I noticed a large dent on the rear driver side door. I asked for the manager (Ernesto) who was the only person there that almost spoke clear English, said that there is no way that they dented it. I mentioned that I just bought the car and was maintained immaculately and just purchased. He mentioned that he didn?t care, and it doesn?t matter how many miles are on the car. So I asked what excuse does he use when a classic car comes in that is 40 years old. This is where I realized that it was my fault - when he said people with nice cars don?t take them to Danny?s.

It?s up to you if you want to try out the farm.

Its last time I did, they took back the receipts so I couldn?t prove that I purchased the service.

Anyway by now I?m already over it, and will get a dent removal specialist to take care of it. IF THEY CAN ONLY SPEAK ENOUGH ENGLISH TO SAY...ME NO DO SENIOR...MOST LIKELY YOU?RE IN THE WRONG PLACE.

Pros: they offer "new car scent"

Cons: you get screwed!!!
