My son has been attending Tarwater for 6 years now and is legally blind. He is in a standard class with an IEP and we have NEVER had any issues with the staff at the school or the district coordinators regarding his IEP. They have always provided me and my son with top notch "service" and I am looking forward to moving forward with him to a junior high. It is always recommended to be fully aware of your child's needs whether they have an IEP or not - this only benefits your child and the staff in providing them with the best learning environment.

The school was not accommodating to my son's needs. His legal rights were violated concerning his IEP.He was bullied, and some of his teachers humiliated him, as well as, other kids (in front of his class), because he couldn't do the work they expected of him. I brought it to the attention of the adm/staff regularly. I had to go to the administration dept. to get what my son needed because the school continually ignored the problem. The school repeatedly told me what they would/wouldn't do, instead of considering the concerns of the parents/child and doing what's is best for the child, which is against the Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997 and IDEA Regulations of 1999. I recommend if you are a parent with a child that has a disability that you research the law concerning what schools have to do, instead of expecting your school to do what's best for your child. If you allow them to do the minimum that's what you'll probably get! I speak to many parents that have kids in this program and they've also had issues in this school, as well as others.

My son attends Tarwater currently and they have really treated him quite well. He has ADHD and they have been very supportive of his needs and the special attention he sometimes requires. The principal and administrative support staff is very understanding of the situation with my child.
