They can not (it is against the law) for them to call and harrass or threaten you in any which way shape or form. They can not tell you they have the power over anything, because they don't. Here is a link check it out.

Yes there maybe people out there that do owe other people money, and maybe they are in debt of some sort, but it does not give the debt collectors the right to call and threaten people. That is a crime, and the person on the phone could end up going to jail for threaten someone, and the business could also get charged with a big fine, or worse made to close it doors.

I called these people back, grant it i do owe some money. I tried to explain I'm in a middle of a divorce with children. I explained that i do have full intentions on making payment after my divorce is final and I will not know what my payment will look like until approx 30 days from now. the lady (JUNE) indicated she didn't care and that my payment will be well over what i make monthly. June was Very rude, disrespectful and very cold hearted. She was also threatning and that is not how people do business, especially not knowing who's on the other end.

I called in to pay my hospital bill sent to collections..after being put on hold continuously, I spoke to TIM the "account manager" I offered to make 4 monthly payments, and he flat out refused my offer, I told him I could not afford any more, and he said "I don't Care", I asked to speak to a Supervisor, JUNE came on the phone, she was worse than TIM, she refused my offer for payment, spoke to me like I was 3 years old, and told me to be quiet, and I told her to speak to me like an adult, I do have a college education after all, she replied " Well good for you (My Name), then you should be able to figure out how to pay your bill!" I will Never pay them a cent, I do not trust them. I will call my original creditor and pay directly. I am also going to complain to the Better B B. RUDE and Ignorant people...they must be miserable people, working for minimum wage.

Not recommended!! I was calling to pay a Tep Electric bill for $65 that I overlooked after moving in with my fiance. The rep asked me where I am currently living, so I verfied my PO Box thinking he wanted my mailing address. Well I Guessed WRONG. He was extrememly rude and asked "How do you get electric power?" I asked how that is relevant to my calling up to pay this bill,he was even MORE rude and said that he has the "power" to turn off the electric from where I am living because I have not paid this bill!! Ok, so I can TRY to understand this policy IF I owed a $500 bill, and I was now a harbored fugitive(in their eyes) because I now live with someone else and THEIR name is on the electric, BUT I do NOT owe that much money, nor do I feel it is LEGAL for this collection agency to ask for a current address in order to cause problems with WHOMEVER I may be living with because TEP wants to get paid!! Just like all other creditors out there TEP has to go through the same hoops, right? If I dont pay my credit card bill, they don't call the water co. and hang me out to dry!! So it gets or worse. I dont even want to talk to this crazy guy about the legalities of this any more I just want to PAY the thing,its a $10 charge for cards so I ask about a check over the phone.This guy proceeded to talk down to me and tell me I COULD mail it in MA'AM! -OR- I could CALL BACK and talk to someone else if I'd like. If I'd like? Why would I like to call back I just want to pay this bill, so I asked two more times about a check over the phone and he finally said he could take a check at no charge but he doesn't WANT TO and so he is going to transfer me to someone else!! The next woman (sabrina) was very nice and said she would TALK to him. WOW is it really that hard to hire people these days? The worst part is that I feel that I am somehow paying for this guy to be this rude to me-I pay TEP, who pays this company, who hired THIS guy and he doesn't WANT TO take my payment! GREEAAAT!!

I just got a letter from this agency about a medical bill that I incurred while living in Tucson, they said as stated:
You counted on our client to be there when you needed their help and they were, They treated you based on your promise to pay your bill, if you would like to discuss an agreeable means of resolving this debt ,please contact us, We will advance your account 7 days in anticipation of hearing from you.

First of all in order for a person to receive treatment, they would be require to sign a form to agree to pay or else you don't get treatment, is that a promise to pay, or a requirement to pay? secondly, I waited in the lobby of the hospital for nine hours in pain before being seen, were they really there for me? it seems more like I was there for them. Thirdly AHCCCS was supposed to pay for this even though I wasn't approved at the time I applied, they sent me a letter stating that I was approved for a one time visit if I had incurred bill before my approval date, this was it, and whose to say if AHCCCS already made a payment and they want me to pay to. double payment. They need to leave me alone

I can remember being hassled for a while by this collection agency. Being 18 in 2005, I wasn't very understanding. Now, being 23, I understand they were just doing thier job. Today I called Surety Acceptance to clear up this old bill and fix my credit. I was greeted by a cheerful young woman, maybe my age. She directed me to James. James was very helpful, asked me a few questions and asked if I could pay the money today. Well I couldn't but come Friday I can and would they accept cash. YES! What a wonderful feeling to get this bill off my mind and credit. I thank the people working on 7/8/08 and although you haven't got my money yet ( Ha Ha just kidding) Thanks for not being rude...doing your job and being so helpful. I appreciate you!

When i spoke to her she said if i didnt pay right now, after she hung up she was sending the account to an attorneys office and they would put leans on everything we own. This people act like is a crime to get seek and not be able to pay them when they say so. I wanted to do a payment plan and they want the full amount now. I aslo spoke to joan the manager and she is really rude and disrespectful, She put me on hold when i told her i wasnt happy with the way they wore treating us. I guess they dont realize they run a buisness. I bet if someone called them and told them they had a 600.00 medical bill and they need to pay the full amount now they wouldnt be able to do it. They try to scare people but is not the way to treat someone. Ashley And Joan please treat people with RESPECT i bet criminals in jail get treated better. anyone that reads this please report this kind of businesses because this cant be happening.

I am a full-time student, and last year I got extremely sick and acquired medical bills. Shortly after I recovered I moved to AZ. I had received only one payment notice from one of the bills and heard nothing else from them, and with all of my other bills I had forgot to contact them-- the next thing I know, I am in debt collection with SAC, and a Paul S. is harassing me.

I explained my situation. I explained that I could only pay $25 a month, as I was still trying to pay off other debts. Paul S. told me this is unacceptable, that I needed to ask family, friends, or get a loan. I told him they were already helping me pay off medical bills, and it was not like I asked to get sick, nor was I avoiding paying this bill. He harassed me until I agreed to $100, which I do not have. I ended up sending $25, which was a mistake, as he called my work and started to harass me there, to the point where I may lose my job.

I called the hospital that I owed the bill to, but they are of little help. I called SAC and tried to talk to someone else aside of Paul S., and only after mentioning FDCPA did I get someone on the phone. Not that it was helpful. The man, Joe, was rude, uncooperative, and purposely pushed me to the point of anger as I did not start the conversation in that way. I would jump off a cliff before working a job that makes me go to work everyday just to push people around and hang up on them. Oh the anger. How can a person go home at night and not feel like floater in the toilet everyday. A $400. debt became a $1300. debt without explanation so naturally I asked why. I was immediatly accused of not being cooerative. All they wanted was when and how I planned to pay this today. They threatened to pull my credit report... woho.. what is that going to do? and send a letter to my place of employment. I don't know about you, but I respond in the same manner I am treated, most of the time, but I was exceptionally curtious to June, just to find out where the additional debt came from. June, supposedly a supervisor hung up on me too. So, I still don't know the answer to my question. You will see that there is a high turnaround at this place and these people have access to our personal records. This is scary! Unless of course they jumped off a cliff because they couldn't live with themselves anymore.... good choice!!! At the bottom of that cliff I can only assume they ended up in a very hot firery hole and greeted by the devil himself.

Is this the kind of representation our Hospitals and consumers deserve, in order to collect a debt??? As an American, it's ones responsibility to pay off their debts. However, financial security can't always be depended on ie.Homeless,immigrants,single parents with no healthcare etc. But, I have always taken care of my debts in a timly mannor .... when I've been notified that I have them and can still survive as a human being and set up payments that I can reasonably afford to end a debt.... 6 Mths later...Scott...this is Alexis...need a return call at 741-****I decided to call this # back and found out I'm in COLLECTIONS (Surety Acceptance). 3 Doctor bills, 3 Urgent Care bills, over a thousand dollars! Now living in New York, a steady home still
check to check in order to live. I offered her 100.00 a mth which is more than I can afford...she said she wanted to set up a payment plan not at my comfort level but according to theirs....send 300.00 or whatever I sent them, under that, will be sent back and they will start legal proceedures. After telling me"I should pay my bills'" I of course defended myself. She hung up on me! I found an old bill and called the hospital myself, wanting to clear this up and was told I had to call her back. So I spoke with her supervisor instead and an hour later I'm Paying my 100.00!!! I Asked why she didn't disclose where she was calling from or what this was in regards to on her message...He claims they don't have to, however, he gave me these letters, FDCPA, and everyone should look it up . It let me know that it's illegal for them to be deceptive or misleading when contacting a person in debt. This applies to this situation here! Lack of information!!!

To Whom It May Concern:

I write to you today, concerning the above mentioned collection case. The person you are trying to garnish is completely disabled by Multiple Sclerosis. There is no expected recovery & subsequent return to work.

***** is receiving $740.00 monthly in Disability payment from Social Security, all of which goes to the cost of her care. There are no spare monies with which to pay your outrageous demand for payment. Nor are there any retirement benefits, 401k, or any other funds to pull from. She is destitute.

I am appalled that you would try to collect over $1300.00 in fees on this debt to her Neurologist. The original debt, as your office well knows, was under $85.00. I think the courts would be equally appalled to find this out, should you decide to pursue this matter.

I write to you today, concerning the above mentioned collection case. The person you are trying to garnish is completely disabled by Multiple Sclerosis. There is no expected recovery & subsequent return to work.

***** is receiving $740.00 monthly in Disability payment from Social Security, all of which goes to the cost of her care. There are no spare monies with which to pay your outrageous demand for payment. Nor are there any retirement benefits, 401k, or any other funds to pull from. She is destitute.

I am appalled that you would try to collect over $1300.00 in fees on this debt to her Neurologist. The original debt, as your office well knows, was under $85.00. I think the courts would be equally appalled to find this out, should you decide to pursue this matter.
