My husband and I recently purchased out first house. We do not know very much about repairing a Furnace so we callled Energy Savings and Heating to come out because they charge a flat rate for diagnostic, a little higher than others but it seemed like a better deal because they said if we ended up needing a part replaced they would do it for the cost of the part after the diagnostic fee.

The technician came out, let us know where the filter was, cleaned another peice and then told us that we needed a new thermostat for $300. I can buy a new thermostat at the hardware store for $25, when we asked why it was so high the technician said the price included labor. But there was not supposed to be a labor charge. So, we declined to have them replace the thermostat.

We purchased the new thermostat and planned to install it ourselves. Before we installed it a friend recommended that we just change our battery. After changing the battery the system ran perfectly.

In another posting someone from the company said that the diagnostic fee was supposed to cover small reairs such as replacing the thermostat battery. HE NEVER EVEN RECOMMENDED CHANGING THE BATTERIES LET ALONE CHANGE THEM HIMSELF. He jumped straight to the most expensive solution.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! You would be better off with just about anyone else, they didn't even do the work that was promised with the diagnostic fee and they certainly didn't keep their work about labor costs.
