I will not go back. The food was okay. Overpriced. The interaction that I had with the manager/owner (not sure) was very negative. They were not willing to be fair. NOT customer oriented.

Absolutely one of the worst restaurant experience ive had in a long time!!

Service is garbage - they have one waiter serving 10 tables and it took 20mins to first get us our drinks, and than even longer to take the order for food. On top

My experience was not very good. Primarily based on service. Our waitress seemed as if she did not have time for us, and forgot to put in our appetizer. We also had to beg for a simple refill on water. There were other little details that frustrated us as well. My thought is if you are paying $25 a plate the service should be good.

The food was good. My wife had the lamb rangoo that was really really good 4-5 stars, I had a chicken pasta dish that I could have made at home.

The ambiance was also good. With better service it would be a good date place.

NEVER again.
My husband and I like to try new places out often in the Twin Cities area. Even with the negative reviews I have heard about, we decided to give it a try.
We had reservations for 8pm. Still had to wait 5 minutes at the door to even GET to the front desk. As we got to the hostess, she told us that they were behind and we would have to wait. We grabbed 2 wines at the bar and stood and waited for 15 min. We watched the hostess as she seated a couple that walked right in the door. I looked at her like- hello?- and she goes "Oh, have you been helped?"- YES, by YOU, 15 minutes ago! She then proceeded to seat us in the back at a puny table by the kitchen, while the couple that walked in the door with no wait got a great seat by the window. That pretty much set the tone for the night right there.
The wine was great, the food was okay, and the dessert of homemade ice cream? The NASTIEST crap I've ever had in my life. I will pretty much eat anything, and I couldnt handle more than 2 bites without gagging. We did tell the waitress our disappointment, and she said oh, must have been a bad batch. No offer for replacement, nothing. This was AFTER our first quest for the crumble was turned down because they were out.
DON'T go there unless you like to be treated like a second hand servent and have no taste buds. Or ONLY go there if you are just going to sit and have wine at the bar- they bartender was very pleasant.

Complete disappointment. The owner booked another wedding party in the room I had a contract and deposit paid for. I discovered this four days before my event.
The owners' "business decision" was to squeeze my guests into their small, oblong lounge or their over-sized, cold loft. Neither were acceptable, but with four days notice (and multiple out-of-town guests arriving) I had no choice but to deal with this unorganized restaurant.

Yes, I was given fair discounts. I was even offered an additional $500 gift card for their mistake - but was told the next day via e-mail that the offer was "off the table" because the owner decided she had been "gracious" enough in correcting their mistakes!

Needless to say, a broken contract and broken word have left me to decide I will NEVER, EVER visit this restaurant again.

We decided to try Spill the Wine before an evening theatre performance. Parking behind the restaurant consisted of 15 stalls which were all full and the remainder of the lot (50 stalls) practically empty allocated to Grumpy's.

Restaurant has a welcoming feel upon entering. We had to wait approximately 5 minutes to be seated. We had a nice location by the front glass to view the restaurant and street.

Food entre choices are limited to 6-8 options. Don't expect any bread to be served, because there is none. No side salad either, unless you order one at $8-$11. For an entre choice at $27, you would expect either bread or a salad to be served with the meal. Food was okay, but nothing to write home about and dissappointing at this price level. We ordered an appetizer that barely fed two people. Small piece of fish, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Service was mediocre and not really excited and ethusiastic for us to be there. The wine flight was a fun way to try three different wines (1/3 glass each) for $12. Excellent wine selections.

Bottom line, for a $108 meal for two (wine flight, appetizer, and entres), Spill the Wine is overpriced and perhaps could be justified with exceptional service and atmosphere. It is simply not there. Other much better alternatives a short distance down the street.

Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre Service, Sub Par Food

We went there 2 days ago and were seated in a table that was right across the front door. We were cold and miserable through our meal. Our request to move us to a different table was dismissed by the waitress. I sent an email to complain about this incident to the manager and received a rude response. Will never, ever go there again!

Seven of my friends and i went to spill the wine. They rushed us to our table which was located right next to the bar and server station in the back. One would think this location would grant us quick drink service, not true. This location only meant we were constantly fighting for space and bumped by servers in the two feet of space the servers had to work with.
As I mentioned before we were all rushed. Once we got our salads the server came back twenty minutes later and asked what was wrong with the salad because none of us had touched them. I replied we need utensils to eat. I also said the other servers we asked for utensils didn??t bring any either. The server returned with just forks and we had to distribute them ourselves. One additional comment on the salads, they were all different sizes. Once the salads were done we waited for them to be taking them away for 10 ?? 15 minutes after, at which time they took our forks.
Next was the main course, which just sucked and no two of the same orders were the same. Also, the food was as cold as the server. We had to send everything back. But that didn??t hardly matter because we haven??t any utensils again. The server told us everything would have to be made over because they don??t reheat anything. But when the food came back out my friend commented that he could clearly see the bite mark were he had tried it the first time, we all hoped it was his bite mark. So much for making everything over again.
All and all, the experience was bad. We were rushed, food was terrible, and the server gave the impression she was better then her job. I have severed before and found it to be a great job if done correctly and it paid for a lot college. Also, my severing experience allowed me to understand what an eating experience should be like. I spoke with the owner on the way out. From the look in his eyes I could tell he knows his restaurant sucked to. Consider re-staffing, everything.

My friend and I met for a little wine and some small plates for my birthday and overall thought it was OK. I love the decor. The wine flights were great. The Bruchetta was awesome. Things went downhill from there. We got the app sampler and the calamari and crab cakes are only ok. Then we each got a small salad. The Panzanella was a HUGE mistake. It was cut up garlic bread with olves and a couple shards of bacon. Even the Muddy Paws cheesecake (which I love) was only ok b/c it was still partially frozen. Next time I might stick with the Wine and get a full plate of Bruchetta and call it a night.

This place was packed on the night I was there, so maybe the word is starting to get out about Spill The Wine. Before I went I only heard great things about it. When I went there, my experience was fabulous. The young lady who waited on me was a sweetheart, and the food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you want to avoid the traffic and parking of the heart of downtown Minneapolis.

We went here for our anniversary. We had visited last winter and wanted to come back for a full meal. Alex was our waitress and she was delightful and attentive.

Their wine club is impressive. They also have a boutique wine shop with GREAT prices.

The meal was wonderful. We will be back.

I just recently joined about 10 of my friends for drinks and dinner to celebrate a friends' 11th anniversary of their relationship. Though we were seated promptly, it took 45 mins. for the server to complete our drink orders and about 15 minutes after our drinks arrived, did we get to order our dinner. Another 30 minute waiting game and finally our dinner arrives COLD! First, I wouldn't have noticed the constant waiting had our server kept us happy with drinks, but once the first drink order was complete, that was it, no more drinks unless you tracked her down. Second, for the amount of time we had to wait for our food, you would expect the dinner to arrive hot. Not the case, even the plates were cold. I had their beef tenderloin cooked medium-rare, with shrimp and asparagus. Except for the veggies, the meal was warm, bordering cold. Finally, we got the manager/owner who switched our server to someone who thought to cure the situation with free desserts. The desserts were good and the 50% discount was a nice bonus but we were prepared to pay full price for the meal, we wanted to have a good time and celebrate the event, instead it was overshadowed by a terrible meal with even worse service!

The service, food and value for the Valentine's Day Dinner was very poor.

We asked for a table in the corner as there were 10 open tables when we arrived, they were not able to accommodate.

They served a very small salad with 1/2 tsp. dressing. We couldn't eat it because we had no silverware (I had to wait 2-3 minutes with the salad sitting in front of me until they brought me silverware.) I tried to distribute the dressing once I received silverware, but I could only get the small amount of dressing on 4 of the 8 leaves of lettuce. I could have eaten dry lettuce leaves at home.

The 1st course was to include champagne, our server brought us out two glasses of red wine. I said, "I think we were supposed to receive champagne with the first course..." She apologized and then brought us the champagne, only we had already eaten the 8 pieces of dry lettuce, so it was a little late.

I felt like we were a nuisance to the establishment and that they wanted us in and out as fast a possible to accommodate the next reservation.

The dessert was red velvet cake, it was dissapointing to see the presentation. I felt like I was at a graduation party as the cake was clearly cut out of a sheet cake order from an offsite bakery. I wish it had more interesting presentation and felt like they actually put some effort into my meal instead of plopping down cake leftover from someone's graduation party.

The table next to us finished their meal quickly and there was another couple seated. The server suggested that they order a shrimp cocktail appetizer that wasn't on the menu. I was very disspointed by hearing this, I would have loved to order an appetizer, but noone offered it to us.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
WASTE OF MONEY.
WILL NOT GO BACK.

Went to Spill the Wine for a romantic Val dinner with the understanding that it was a set menu; however, the food was terrible and the service was subpar. Ordered a drink at the bar while we waited for our table, but before the drink was ready the host came to seat us. We told him we were waiting for our drink and he said he would bring it over to the table, but he never did. The salad was laughably small, dry and very poor quality. I ordered the fish and had to send it back because it was lukewarm inside. My new piece was slightly warmer inside, but it was obvious that it was pre-made and set under a heat lamp. The portion was ridiculously small and severed with only a small sprig of greens underneath the fillet. The cake was obviously cut from a sheet cake made off-site and the presentation was what I would have expected from Perkins. Until I asked for a desert fork, it was expected that I use my entree (fish) fork for my cake. When I asked the waitress about the valet pick-up process, I was told I had to go out to the parking lot and give my ticket to the valet. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought the whole purpose of valet was that they (valet) bring the car to you? This was my first time at Spill the Wine and absolutely my last!

Tried this place for the first time on Valentines Day. Overall a very poor experience. I have several complaints on this place, and I will adamantly convince people not to go here. Fristly, we showed up on time for our reservation and had to wait a half hour for our table. Next we were informed of the set menu, which no one ever told me about when i made the reservation. This would have nice to know as i would have gone somewher else. On to to the actual food experience and our server. The starter salad had about six pieces of lettuce, possibly seven. It was also given about three drops of dressing. Our server cared less about us and more about socializing behind the bar with other staff(if you get the short blonde haired girl as your server i recommend running out of the restaurant). We were never once asked how the food was and we had to flag her down for any refills or other requests. She was incredibly rude and bascailly a b*tch. We were actually encouraged by our waiter to use the same fork for the salad, main course, and dessert. I though this was a complete joke and we literally had to pursuade her for new silverware for dessert. Basically this was horrible experience and i would never spend my money here again. After reading other reviews it appears the common theme at Spill the Wine is horrible service. This place will go under very soon if they don't change the attitudes of their staff.

Now I usually love to eat out and experiment with different restaurants; always find something good from one of them. Spill the Wine was far from that. First off, they gave us the wrong directions to the place twice (two different people). I had an $8 bowl of soup that I got 21 spoonfuls out of and Cubfoods brand tasted better for 1/8th the price. The menu didn't have much selection and a $14 salad would be comparable to a McDonald's side salad. For $17 you can get a pound of pasta with very little meat and sauce. I sat there for 20 minutes with 3 empty glasses of water in front of me as the server came and asked how everything was on 4 separate occasions before she refilled my glass. They have poor ventilation and my table (along with half the restaurant) had their winter jackets on. About the best thing going for them is their $15 bottles of wine during happy hour. I would give the place 6 months before they go out of business.

My friends and I love trying new places, especially wine bars! Spill the Wine WAS AMAZING! Our server was kind and helpful. The appetizers, salads and entrees were all appetizing to choose from. We tried some of their wine flights which was a lot of fun! We would definatly go back to relax and enjoy some food, wine and chocolate banana bread pudding and spill the wine!

The service was horrible. The server never asked if we were ready to order - we had to ask them to come over after 15 minutes of trying to get his attention because they were too busy talking amongst themselves.
The appetizers we ordered were sitting waiting to get served, they sat there for about 5 minutes - we had to ask if that order was ours!

The selection of wine was ok - but we thought everthing was a bit overpriced for what we received in return

The appetizers we ordered were sitting waiting to get served, they sat there for about 5 minutes - we had to ask if that order was ours!

The selection of wine was ok - but we thought everthing was a bit overpriced for what we received in return

Pros: appealing atmosphere

Cons: SERVICE

.

The service was horrible...Took 20 min to get our drinks, the water and pop did not come with ice and waiter never came to check on us (so we could complain about the food). We had the 3 course meal for $35.00. The salad was served on a tea cup saucer with just lettuce and two drops of dressing. The Rissotto tasted like Rice a Roni, except mushy. The tenderlion was exteremely under cooked! The cheesecake was pulled out of a box practically in front of us and it was still frozen when served to us. Don't waste your money!

Pros: Cute Place

Cons: Horrible Food and Service

We had an awesome time down there. Not sure why people are so uptight??? Do they ever think to ask for some one in charge if they are having a poor time???

Pros: Food service ambience

Cons: Close before 1 on weekdays

I am working here for the summer and like to eat somewhere different as often as possible. I went to this place because I read the reviews on the good food. Well I spent $50.00 and the food was very low quality for the price. I had the grilled chicken with couscous and the turtle cheesecake. The wine was o.k. but overpriced also. I shouldn't have paid more than $25.00 for my meal for 1. I would not go back again. The service was good but it was a very slow Friday night.

While the wine selection is good, the food was bad. Absolutely nothing good to say or to recommend the food. Service is just mediocre. Nice decor, though.

I hang out here sometimes with my friends on weekday evenings. Spill the Wine has a really chill atmosphere. The staff are easy going so you don't feel you have to be in a hurry to get in and get out or whatever and they generally have good recommendations on new stuff to try out. Their wine selection is totally fantastic too. Definitely a great place to hang out and enjoy a wine with friends.

I attended their Mother's Day brunch and left very dissapointed and ripped off. The food was cold and mediocre - bland eggs, hard croissants and cold potatoes. Selection was very limited. I am especially irritated I paid 9 bucks for the worst sparkling wine I have every tasted. HInt - please filter your water. It tastes disgusting. We got stuck in the back room away from all the atmosphere even though we made reservations weeks in advance. I would not recommend this place.

We decided to visit Spill the Wine for Mothers Day brunch because I'm always game for trying something new. We were seated right away, but from there it went down hill. It took well over 10 minutes for us to get silverware and the service overall was incredibly slow. They had long lines for the self serve buffet and the first two times we went up the french toast was completely wiped out with no sign of more coming out. They served the basics...french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, ham and it was "ok" at best. They had another line with salad, breads and a few kinds of bars which were all awful. They also had made to order omelettes which took a long time to get and I couldn't even eat mine. The prices were really good but the bad service, mediocre food and inability to manage the influx of people at the buffet was a downer. Mothers were also supposed to get Gerberer Daisies and my mother-in-law and I didn't get one offered to us. We won't go there again.

Pros: All things Spill the Wine

.

Walking into Spill the wine reminds me of a minimalistic approach to a great place to hang out and drink. Great wines... the people we were with are semi regulars and have seen the wine list change a couple of times and it just gets better and better as they keep going back over and over. We really enjoyed the food it was perfect. Steak had just enough mushrooms to keep you wanting nothing but the next bite. The "lounge" as the people there call it was even more inviting. We will be there next timeand do more drinking and eating. Hardwood floors vaulted ceilings modern art work from local artists whats not to like. See you at Spill the wine.
Thanks for the great time.

We tried this restaurant based on a recommendations from a friend. We entered the establishment quite late on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. We were not met by any staff and didn't know weather or not it was open seating. We finally found staff to seat us. The atmosphere was a bit lacking - not much on the wall or floors to keep it interesting. The high ceiling took away any hope of warm, cozy experience. The wine list, however, was extensive and the flights were a good option if you wanted to try a few options before getting a bottle. We ordered the calamari and hummus appetizers. The hummus was average and the bread was hard and cold. The salad we ordered was not fresh and the dressing was excessive. Overall, not a good experience.

My girlfriend and I joined Spill the Wine two nights ago. I definitly plan on returning. We were able to sit in the middle of the floor and get a good view of everything. There was a lot of excitment with an open kitchen and our server was very knowledgable about the different wines. The questions that I had asked that he didn't know; he came back with a book of a lot of information as well as asking another employee about their personal opinions. It seems that everyone there has a real enjoyment in what they are doing. Which made my girlfriend and I enjoy our time all that much more. On top of that as a begining to our overall wonderful experience we had their calamari which on happy hour was extremely affordable and delicious. I had their beef tenderloin and she had the Gnocci. My girlfriend always orders gnocci and gets disapointed. But at least this time she liked it. She actually took home her leftovers which makes me know she loved it. Towards the end of our meal a gentleman came up and introduced himself. He was very polite saying," Pardon my intrution, but i wanted to compliment you on your selection." As a consumer who frequently dines out, I thought that was a very nice way to check on us, rather than a, hi things ok here?

We started talking and it turns out they have an entire upstairs to seat large parties. He gave us a tour as well as poured each of us a cup of french press coffee. My sister is getting married soon and just so happens that today she met with Spill the Wine to arrange her Groom's Dinner. I cannot wait for it. I might have to go back a few more times to help her pick out her menu!! :-)

My husband and I went to a wedding reception at Spill The Wine WOW is the only thing that comes to mind. We had a three coarse dinner on the second floor it was increadible. Waldorf salad choice of steak or chicken we had one of each and shared it was great. I had never been there and cannot wait to go back. The restaurant itself was warm and cozy even with the lofty ceilings. We met the chefs and gave them a big thumbs up also. We are vey impressed and went through the wine shop on the way out again great selection of wines. Thanks.

spill the wine is a nice restaurant with great atmosphere and a spectacular wine menu. they are not trying to be something huge that people ooh and ahh about. it's laidback and very friendly. i am a frequent visitor. people giving this place a bad wrap are probably the kind of people that shouldn't go out. so don't listen to them, i would give it a chance

The twin cities never had it so good. You people who are whinning about food and wine selection and service are clearly from the rural parts of the state. Nine of us were in Spill the wine on Wednesday and had great service, one app was less then what we expected and it was fixed with one conversation with the owner/ manager we chatted over drinks and dinner. Dessert was perfect. I will go there anytime. We also took a tour of there second floor banquet space and saw the playbill for the shows they have up there in December. I've lived in Mn and numerous other countries and states eaten all over this world..... and it is what you have in your own back yard that you call your own. When is the last time anyone took the time to open there own place. I applaud those who try and those who sit back and judge are just.....
We all had a great time and will be back.

Peace to all.

I've been to Spill the Wine three times and have always tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. They're new, they're local, blah blah blah, but I've always been disappointed.

I ordered the way overpriced butternut squash ravioli only to have it come out flavorless (and a TINY portion). The service was terrible--wasn't offered water, no follow-up, nothing. The dessert--apple crumble--was also overpriced and flavorless. I spent way too much on a crappy meal.

For a delicious dinner in Minneapolis, head to Barbette. Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent service. I will never go back to Spill the Wine.

As the last entrant aptly put it...this place deserves a lower than "Not Recommended" rating. I would advise any people seeking a good dinner to AVOID Spill the Wine. The service was TERRIBLE (Sunday night and the place was pretty empty). The server was not attentive (water left empty for 10 minutes on two separate occasions). We didn't have enough silverware (I had to flag down the manager after five minutes), nor did the server stop by to ask how the food was. THEN, there is the fact that our food was sub-par...the flavor palate was poor at best (I've had better at Applebee's!), the food had to be returned because it was not fully cooked. No apology was offered. Only half price was given off of the meal by the manager and we had to wait another 10 minutes (we were told we would have a new dish in two minutes). As a person who thoroughly enjoys local fairs I would direct any one who inquires towards one of the restaurants in this city that provides a positive experience. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Pros: near the guthrie and right off of washington

Cons: everything else about it

-*-*-*-*-* --- I give this place a negative 5 stars. The menu was subpar at best. Very limited and overpriced. Our party had the crab cakes - which was 3 crab cakes and they were not good at all - $9. We had the bruschetta - a weird concoction of flavors. Maybe some of the worst bruschetta i've ever had. Also not sure what the other person in our party had - it was some sort of pasta - it came out cold. They heated it up and only charged us half. I was hoping they'd at least give it to her for free. Now to the wine. For being a restaurant that features wine and even has wine in their name, their list was not extensive and the variety wasn't that great. We had to ask for water to be refilled, twice. This was a Sunday night - not busy.
If you go, just beware of bad service. Overall - low grade service is what I found. I will probably never go back.

To tell you the truth, my rating should probably be 2.5 but I really want to give Spill the Wine a shot, and my review should be read knowing that I will give it a second chance. Around 8 p.m. on Friday night, we were given our choice of restaurant or lounge seating, and were seated immediately. The service was attentive, and what it lacked in quality was made up for in genuine niceness. I found the wine menu to be slightly unimaginative, although prices are fine. The food menu, however, definitely needs a little pizazz. It is predictable and a little boring. I still hoped the food would knock my socks off. The appetizer (dips & spreads) was tasty and the quantity was more than sufficient for 2 people. Plenty of bread and pitas served with it. The warm artichoke dip was delicious. The salads (Cobb & Waldorf) were really disappointing. I couldn't even finish the Waldorf salad -- the dressing was an unpleasant texture (like marshmallow creme??) with an unpleasant aftertaste. We shared the beef tenderloin that was unbelievably tender, but... bad. The asparagus was woody, the potatoes were boring, and the beef itself tasted really odd and had a blackened flavor that was overpowering and I wouldn't have expected in tenderloin, and it was altogether way too salty. I still feel dehydrated! I love red meat and I couldn't even finish my half. We were looking forward to the shiitake mushroom sauce, but who could taste anything over the salt??? Our server sympathized, but didn't do anything to make up for it. The free small portion of vanilla ice cream was fine for us for dessert, although I have to say the chocolate cake I saw walking by looked amazing... As I said, I WILL give Spill the Wine another go, and I sure hope next time I can give it a 4 or 5!

If you have been waiting for a fun, chic, wine-inspired restaurant to pop up in Minneapolis, wait no longer - get yourself down to Spill the Wine! We had dinner there on a Monday night, and the place was busy, but not crowded. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The appetizers are good-sized and very tasty, and the main courses were all great (I would particularly recommend the gnocci). As for dessert, the chocolate covered strawberries are such a treat!

The highlight of this place, however, is the fun wine experience. Our table of 6 tried several different wine flights - all delicious and all clearly well thought out. The selection is great, and the prices are affordable. Great happy hour specials, too. Bottom line - make sure you check it out!!

The service here was awesome. Happy hour specials are great, I had a bottle of wine for $15 and got to take the unfinished bottle home. The calamari was excellent as was the summer salad. The scallops were also really good, except for $22 they left me feeling hungry afterwards because they just came on a small bed of greens. The cheesecake is the best I have tasted anywhere. We went on a Friday night at 6 pm and found parking on the street behind it (10th?) and the meters there are 25 cents an hour!!! Awesome. The atmophere was great (although a little noisy). Can't wait to go back!

Went here before a production at the Guthrie, we were on somewhat of a time restriction, but not much. Mentioned that to the server and she was quick to say, you better order soon, so you can enjoy your meal. We had great drinks, service, apps, and food. Service was great, food was delish, drinks (and wine) were fantastic!

this was our first visit on valentines day. the place was packed! we were sat right away, our server was friendly and knowledgeable although she appeared to be busy. i had the halibut and my husband had the dueling loins. the paired wine with each entree was a nice touch. the food was delicious - we're excited to go back and try their full menu. it's too bad others don't have the same sentiments, it's a holiday and the expectation sould be that the restaurant will be busy.

I would highly recommend Spill the Wine to any one that is looking for a great meal, nice wine selection in a relaxed environment.

I went to this "restaurant" with high hopes and plans for a great night out....only to be horribly dissapointed. Even with a set menu and relatively small dining room they some how took over 45 min. to get an appetizer out of their "kitchen" it might of taken longer but we didn't stay long enough to find out. The server visited us once to make some sort of apology by offering more bread. I would strongly not recommend this "restaurant" the ambiance was not there, the service was timid, and the kitchen needs to get a grip, I work in the industry and have for some time and this was a complete disaster.

Pros: didn' t have any

Cons: everything

.

Went here Saturday night for the first time and loved the design and ambience. Tried some unknown and interesting wine selections by the glass. Unfortunately, the food was pretty bad with minimal portions. Calamari was small and tasteless. Soup came lukewarm and wasn't much better. I'd recommend going for the wines, decor, and ambience and with improvements could be a real hot spot for young and older people. Service was good.
