Faidley's is a real treat for the family with fresh seafood and crab cakes that are simply the best you can find in Maryland, bar none, including restaurants on the Bay! Trust us on this and you will be wanting to visit again. A delightful establishment with wonderful service and first class cuisine. -- Melissa & Joel Bernstein

I marked this world class because of the crab cakes. The best in the world. All lump crab with no filling. While other restaurants in Baltimore have good crab cakes, none can compare with Faidley's.

Faidley Seafood is best known for is its award winning lump crab cakes. When you eat your first one you will admit that they must sell the world's best lump crab cakes by far! It comes from an old family recipe the owner's claim that dates back to the 1890 or so. We have been ordering for special occasions these lump crab cakes for years now once we found out they do ship. Of course they are expensive when shipping since they will only ship them overnight to you for next morning delivery. But if your in Baltimore, it's worth the stop in to get them even fresher. When we drive to NJ we sometimes make it a point to stop here - eat and take some back home. The family that owns and runs this place are very nice and friendly people.

I have visited lexington market from time to time for the past 40 years with my father decades before. I read the rave the reviews for faidley's crabcakes. Yesterday, I ordered a lump meat crab cake with greens and macaroni & cheese (favorite comfort food). Yes, the crab cake was real lump meat crab. I found the seasoning of the crab cake so salty that I could barely taste the crab. My tongue could sense and feel the mayonaise binding but I could not taste much of any thing else. I did experinece and hint and glimmer of crab taste for one stray piece of crab meat that wasn't hidden in the salt. As for the greens and macaroni & cheese. These two side dishes were also quite salty. I personally favor greens that haven't been reduced to a porraige. The mac&cheese was quite yellow in color and the sauce think but the cheese flavor again was overwhelmed by salt. The price for a single lump meat crab cake was $12.95 and with sides was $18.95. I understand the crabcake cost due the decline in blue crab (most of which is not imported from other parts of the US. Ok Three Dollars extra per side. This is little high folks! I also ate at the raw bar ordering two dozen oysters. These were wonderful. The service at both crab service counters could be quite surly depending on the service person at he time.

Pros: Raw Oysters Excellent

Cons: Food Over Seasoned and Service is Surly

Seriously, the best darn lump crabcake I've ever had. They're huge! And tasty. Went to check it out because it was featured on the Food channel. Good suggestion!

Only negatives: It's pretty much just cafeteria style with counters to stand and eat at. The market in general is as dirty/smelly as you would expect a seafood market to be. Kinda in a sketchy part of town.

But you can always order to have the crabcakes shipped to you. Probably just as good.

Editorial from

It's a stand-up lunch counter only. It is decidedly more fish market than eatery. And its Lexington Market home has seen better days. That said, if you're looking for one of the very best crab cakes this city has to offer (and yes, we…
