Debbie and Jack are two of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Their eye for style is unique and has everlasting beauty. Years ago they saved my Christmas and my family's Christmas. They don't even know it. I have told this story to so many people, yet not to them.
I had one of the worst years in my financial history. I have four children and had recently gotten divorced. I had two or three jobs at the time. My electricity had been cut off twice. That was when I found out what a pawn shop was! My children never knew how bad it was. Both times I had it turned back on about 15 minutes before they got home from school. It was Christmas time and money was extremely tight. I was depressed that I could not get my children what I thought they needed/wanted. There was an extra child at my home at the time, she was there most of the time anyway so I didn't give it much thought. Her mother was put in the hospital for pneumonia so she had spent the past couple of nights. Just before I went to work I asked her how her mother was doing, she replied "if she makes it through the night they give her a fifty fifty chance"...she was 9 years old. Shortly thereafter I went to my night job. I was at work but my mind was not. Jack walked up to the bar and motioned for me to come over, he handed me a button. The button simply says "Everything Counts, Count your Blessings. I left the bar and went into the bathroom and balled. My children had me, they had each other, they had a roof over their heads, food in the fridge, and yes they had gifts. I balled because I had forgotten the meaning of Christmas and I have Jack and Debbie for reminding me. I'll never forget. The little girls mother died that night. My daughter still goes to the cemetery with her every year. She still calls me Mom. I am blessed. I wear the button every year. Thank you.
