the best movers in the metro area

by david g.

These guys were wonderful.
I have furniture that includes good leather and glass pieces; I have paintings and prints that I care deeply about. I am happy to report that nothing was broken, scratched, or damaged in any way. The CROSS COUNTRY Movers not only performed a superb moving job, they were friendly and pleasant and made me feel comfortable every step of the way. Because of this very positive experience, I would heartily recommend CROSS COUNTRY Moving and Storage to all my friends
thanks

Cross Country Moving & Storage is the WORST!!

by Rasheed K.

In our experience, Cross Country Moving & Storage (CCMS) of Kensington, MD is operated by a bunch of con-artists! My wife and I hired CCMS in November 2007 for a local move; from Gaithersburg, MD to Potomac, MD, a distance of about eight (8) miles. They gave us an estimate of $647.00 over the phone/INTERNET. We moved on November 22, 2007. At the end of a long, tiring day (especially for my wife who was 8.5 months pregnant at that time), with CCMS truck parked in the driveway of our new home with all of our worldly belongings, we were presented with a final bill of $2,743.50 and a very restrictive contract to sign. We were told we had to sign it else they could not unload the truck. We were shocked and tried to negotiate. But the CCMS moving crew refused to start unloading the truck, until the payment was made with certified funds and the contract signed. Our belongings were held hostage until the payment was authorized by the credit card company and we signed the contract. We were left with no choice!! During the move, they also damaged our one (1) year old china display cabinet (priced $3,200.00). The moving crew dropped it from top of the steps (from a height of about 4 feet) while moving it from inside of the house to their truck. When we were being pressurized into authorizing the payment (beyond our budget), we asked about our damaged items. We were assured by both Messrs. Kanner and Munsi of CCMS over and over again that it will be repaired to as new condition by their insurance as soon as we file the claim, regardless of what we signed.

We filed a claim with their insurance (Claims Processing Center) for the china cabinet and two (2) damaged picture frames (broken glass) in January 2008. After more than a year during which we made numerous phone calls, wrote e-mails, and letters, they told us on February 26, 2009 that they will pay us $50.00 for the china cabinet and $6.00 for two (2) damaged picture frames. Now they are saying that according to their contract that we signed (remember it was signed under duress), their total liability is $0.60 per pound per piece, not to exceed $50.00 per piece. The lowest estimate we got for repairs to THE china cabinet is $875.00. Their claim that they are bonded and insured is a sham.

Should you still decide to do business with them, make sure you get a binding estimate up front and read and sign their contract before start of any work. Also, under Federal law they cannot hold your belongings hostage in case of a dispute; however, it does not prevent them from dumping them in your driveway or parking lot. In our opinion, CCMS IS THE MOST UNETHICAL BUSINESS WE HAVE HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF DEALING WITH! WE WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN. WE CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!!
