I am usually an easy customer with no complaints. This was the WORST experience I have ever had at a salon. I made my appointment in advance and showed up on time. I was asked to wait 15 minutes, which then became 40 minutes. I was then unapologetically told that because the stylist picked up another appointment (In place of mine?!) there wouldn't be time for both a cut and highlights. And in fact, there might not be time for highlights at all.

They were unprofessional, unapologetic, and did not offer to reschedule. Would never go back or trust them with my hair!

In this economy, I was eager to save money and decided to try the thrifty priced haircuts at Tenpachi. Well, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is -or- you get what you pay for. Either of these work. I am horrified and devastated. I went in for a 1-2 inch trim off of my mid-back length hair and left with a shaggy shoulder length 'do with a strange row of fringe longer than the rest of the hair in the back. It resembles a 90's Friends TV style cut only really short. I did ask the "stylist" not to cut it any shorter and he told me he was finished, and just putting in some layers, while proceeding to whack off about 6 inches from my hair. What can you even do at this point? The nicest thing said about my hair after the whacking was, "It's not that bad", or "It'll grow back". I feel like my hair is ruined for the next 4-6 months. I could have had a better haircut with a Flowbee.

update- The owner offered to reimburse me for the haircut I had the next day to repair the hair I was left with. She said she put the check in the mail, and nothing came in the next two weeks. I called her and she said she would put a stop payment on that check and send me another one. Well, three more weeks have gone by and nothing. Bad business all around.

Pros: cheap - but not worth it

Cons: questionable skill, do not care what you want

Tenpachi is my salon, it's close to my house, and is a great price for a shampoo & haircut (like $11). Emily was my stylist, the chair in the window. She had great ides, was quick and stylish. The hours are sporatic, not every day, but there are some nights and weekends, a great feature. They also have some great styling products. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, cheap, stylish cut, or inexpensive coloring.

Tenpachi is a very affordable little salon in Fells point that always delivers great service and a great haircut. They accommodate walk-ins and have great stylists. A basic haircut can cost as little as $11!
