Called Cecil county spca about a sick, stray cat that had come into my garage. Very concerned for the cat, my dog, my kids and the neighborhood folks. Was told - "Sorry, lady, we dont deal with cats" WHAT? I feel terrible for this poor little guy and dont know what to do - seriously??

The previous reviewer was taken in by the political campaign of a state delegate, Michael Smigiel, who has been out to "get" the Cecil County SPCA for years, ever since they went with State Police to raid a petshop Smigiel represented as a lawyer. State police and the SPCA rescued many sick animals, and removed the dead ones, from that pet shop that Smigiel was the lawyer for.

My family has adopted several dogs from this shelter over the years, including one that was born handicapped and would have been put down anywhere else. The Cecil County SPCA gave him time and a chance to find his family-- mine!

A state police investigation including CSI teams found Smigiel's charges were false and his star "witness" failed a polygraph and admitted to police lying under oath. Anyone who believes this lying politician, over the police and the many families who have adopted pets at the SPCA, is a fool.

Before donating or giving an animal to this shelter, please read the investigation pages that State Delegate Mike Smiliegal has online:
http://smigiel.wordpress.com/

Photos of evidence against this shelter:

I have been there myself, and everything I've seen is in line with the photos on Smiegal's site. I've dealt with uncaring, unprofessional people. Their animal control officer is impossible to reach for questions or complaints. The building isn't that old but it's always had an odor.

I am especially disappointed because when I adopted from them the worked led us to believe they were no-kill. The truth is not only are they a kill shelter, they were caught killing animals before the animal could even go through the front door. The kittens went straight from someone's car to out back where they're put down and tossed in the incinerator -- no chace at adoption.

I understand sometimes excess pets have to be euthanized. But this kill rate is unacceptable. They say they have no money to take the animals in, but the shelter administrator gets a $96,000 a year salary including lots of cushy benefits. This can be verified by looking at their public 990 Form from the IRS www.irs.gov

I will be willing to update this with a better rating once the investigation is finished and changes are made. But right now I am very unhappy with how this shelter is run.
