One of my favorite Thai places. The have a big menu, and everything is good. This is the place that used to have Thai Elvis. Musical performances sometimes come off a bit strange here, but are charming.

So after weeks of hyping up the man, the myth, the legend known as THAI ELVIS, my friends and I decided to finally check out Palms Thai.

Have you ever been sitting in a restaurant and could not get anyone to wait on you? Have you ever had to take out your cell phone, dial the restaurant, and ask them to send someone to your table as every member of the wait staff acted as if they could not see you?
Well, if you havent, please visit Palm Thai for a unique experience.
We have been eating there for a few years now, and it has never been because of the exceptional serivce. However, the food is very good, well priced, and local to us.
Now, we have grown used to the wait staff being rude and innattentive, but, this last vist (and it is our LAST visit) was the topper.
We were seated quickly enough, and then ignored for at least 10 minutes. We asked one of the staff who was pasing our table if we could get some drinks; he paused, glared at us, and told us he would "find our server". Our server eventually wandered over to our table a few minutes later, took our drink order, and left. Once our drinks returned, we ordered. Now the food itself comes quickly enough, and is always very good, but, it seems once the food hits the table, the wait staff can no longer see you. No follow up on how the meal is, no refresh on your drinks, just nothing. I always have the feeling they want to rush you out of there, regardless if it is crowded or not.
So, we tried to find our server, but she was nowhere to be seen. We again stopped another staff member, asked for a drink refill, as well as some additional white rice, and was again treated to the same hostile glare followed by the familiar but useless "find your server" answer.
another 10 minutes of more passed; we had basically finished our meal, and still no drinks or rice. That is when we decided to call the restaurant and ask for our server to find out table. That call did bring several of the wait staff to us, loaded with drinks, rice (no longer needed), and PLENTY of attitude.
So, it has finally become clear to us that while Palm Thai has wonderful food, the sour, rude, innattentive, and hostile wait staff has made it easy for us to decide never to eat there again. They clearly do not care about the customer whatsoever, and there is no lack of other Thai food choices in Los Angeles.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Terrible, terrible service

.

I really like the food -- can't wait to order the hot chili paste clams again! Service was good, except for a little mix up: server/ cook ended up making our spicy curry mild, and the mild silver noodle salad spicy. Nevertheless, the flavor was still great, so we didn't bother saying anything! The dessert was a little pricey, $5 for a couple pieces fried banana but they were AMAZING with coconut ice cream (which we ordered separately for $3). My friend spoke Thai so maybe that made a difference with the service in comparison to some of the negative reviews below. I can't say since I've only been there once, but that will definitely change soon!

Pros: Good Food

Cons: Zero Ambiance

Every time i go to Palms I order only the Pad Thai noodles, Garlic beef and Fried rice. How can you screw that up? Really it's no big deal. If your looking for a quick asian food fix that's in-expensive, this place is for you. The service is absolutely, positvely, with out a doubt, undisputedly, hands down.....TERRIBLE! The waitresses and buss boys are rude and impersonal! I almost did not leave a tip! If you happen to stumble to this place make sure you let them know you want your food brought out all in the same time. If you want dessert make sure you tell them in advanced because there so anxious for you to leave they bring your bill right away. In all honesty don't go! This place does not live up to the hype and I don't think I will ever go back after my last, terrible experience.

Pros: Thai Iced tea and concluding your visit

Cons: Terrible Service, Learn how to speak thai before you go

I don't understand why so many people rave about this place. I've been here a few times, thinking I maybe just had ordered the wrong things. Time and time again, though, I have been completely disappointed. Take my word for it...go somewhere else for good Thai.

Thai food is one of my favorite, and I have had been to many thai restaurant. I have to admit I'm a bit picky when it comes to food. I ordered the Coconut soup with chicken, and the Paneng curry with beef. Those are my favorite thai dish and I always order those everytime i try a new thai restaurant. My bf ordered a pineapple fried rice. The biggest problem is the rice... both the steam rice and the pineapple fried rice, they used some very cheap quality rice that has very odd texture... almost powdery, with no substance. It might has to do with the recent rapid increase in rice price. The cashew and the chicken in the pinapple fried rice also had a very odd texture to it. Taste was ok. But everything just felt off in your mouth. And for the Penang curry. It was too sweet. I ordered medium spicy, but it wasn't really spicy, just sweet. And doesn't have the proper penang curry taste. The coconut soup was the only one that wasn't disappointing. A little bit on the sour side, but still acceptable. Thai ice tea was good though. Their price was cheap at least.

I got to say that honestly i am not related to this restaurant at all, I'm only just a big fan of this awesome restaurant and the incredible Thai Elvis. I am a full blooded Chinese girl and what i love the most is Thai Food. I've been going to Palm's ever since they were in the old place. I kinda like the old place better which now turned in to "Patio Thai".

I have never dare to write any reviews before because English is my second language. But today i will try my best to emphasize what i have on my mind towards this citysearch reviews to Palm's Thai. Please excuse my poor English.

To me, i do feel that there are lots of good things at this lovely restaurant if you only get a chance to go there. And i do think that they deserves a good reviews about them.
I do believe that most of the negative comment about this place are from those people that have never even been to Palm's. I don't really know the intention to screw up this restaurant by writing the negative comments about them. I find that things that people wrote here are totally nonsense!!!

For example: one guy complaining about Palm's Mango with Sticky rice taste bad HELLO! PALM"S NEVER HAD MANGO WITH STICKY RICE ON THEIR MENU EVER SINCE I STARTED COME HERE!

For example: one guy complaining about the delivery order that takes 40 mins and Palm's charges $5.00 for delivery. HELLO! THAI FOOD USUALLY TAKES TIME TO PREPARE, IF YOU ONLY HAVE SOME COOKING SKILLS. I HAVE THEIR DELIVERY MENU IN MY HAND WHICH SAIDS "FREE DELIVERY!!!" THERE IS NO SUCH THINGS AS $5.- CHARGE.

This is just 2 example of the scam reviews that i can not tolerate to read no more. I think everybody loves to read a useful reviews. Don't waste time to write something that is totally UNTRUE. UNLESS YOU GOT PAID TO DO SO????

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU READ THOSE REVIEWS

Food is ok, but not worth being held up!

Yes...my friend and I were robbed while sitting outside. There was even a security guard on duty, but he apparently was too busy to notice that a deranged crackhead had come into the patio area off of Hollywood Blvd. threatening us and demanding our money and cell phone batteries. The restaurant was packed, yet not one member of the incompetent staff thought it was odd that there was suddenly a new guest at our table counting a roll of freshly-stolen cash.

Looking back on the night, the fact that the waiter screwed up our order, then spent several minutes belligerently arguing and refusing to correct his mistake almost seems almost like a fond memory in comparison. (Although, it did seem a little tasteless when he brought it up again after we were robbed...)

Don't let the seemingly reasonable prices fool you. Dinner for two for all of the cash in our wallets and a couple of cell phone batteries hardly qualifies as a deal.

ok, so the elvis impersonator is a bit weird (we hadn't read about it in advance) at the atmosphere is too, but the food is very good. papaya salad was flavorful - dried crab was interesting. meat and curry dishes were delicious. wild things are really wild (i have to assume these foods are not even remotely environmentally sustainable, particularly at such low prices)

I ordered 2 orders of Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken, bbq pork and Chow Mein. The order arrived within 40 minutes - I live maybe 5 minutes away from the restaurant. The order was wrong. They sent 2 chicken satay orders instead of the pad thai. We called and the man was rude and said we ordered the satay. Well after five minutes he said he'd send the pad thai - but we had to return the satay so he could RESELL IT!!!!!!!!! OMG! Isn't that against some law? They delivered the pad thai 40 minutes later - after my friends had finished their food. They demanded the satay and when I said that most restaurants would be happy to let us keep the wrong order the man said he wouldn't give us the pad thai unless we returned it. I was only testing him and I said it was wrong to resell it. He shrugged his shoulders. I ate the pad thai and I seriously think the chicken was not chicken - it tasted greasy and was not much more than cartillage (sp?). I was hungry and ate about half the order. After I finished it I had a terrible sensation in my mouth, throat and lips - and as I'm writing his 2 hours later - I still feel the sensation - kind of like battery acid when you change your car battery - I'm not lying. Anyway, I'm sitting here with the feeling that I'm going to get sick and I'm wondering if something was bad in the food. I won't call them because they were rude to me, but now I'm concered about their cleanliness. I have a friend who once got hepatitis from eating at a thai restaurant and I'm worried because seriously this was the worst food I've ever had. Even the Chinese Food and Donuts place on Cahuenga and Yucca in Hollywood was better - and you get 3 items and rice and noodles for $4.00 - but its pretty gross. DON'T ORDER FROM HERE! $7.50 for bad tasting and gross Pad Thai isn't such a deal. Plus they charged like $5.00 to deliver. I'll repost if I get sick. Stay tuned!

Where can you get awesome Thai food? Thai Town of course. Food is excellent, price is nice, cool jumpsuit elvis, easy access off freeway, and clean. Definitely will make a trip back here.

Truly horrible food -- disintegrating shrimp in the TomYum, chicken that could have been any other meat under the sun, ghastly in all ways. I actually liked the service -- there was a very sweet person who took our order. But I'll never go near this place again. Try Pink Pepper on LaBrea -- that's real Thai and only a mile or two away.

I've been here several times and their Pad Thai is still my favorite in the area. Their lunch specials are so inexpensive and very filling. Also, at night, their entertaining "Thai Elvis" is wonderful. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice staff, nice environment (quiet in the day, fun at night), and great food for not that much money.

my wife and i love Thai food and while passing Palm Thai we noticed a big room with a large crowd eating so we pulled in, As we entered the parking garage the only place to park) we were stopped by the valet who informed us that we have to leave our keys so we couldnt take off without paying, I wish we would have declined and left at that point, They were pretty rude too, We walked into a large loud festive room with a guy singing and playing guitar,,,,seemed ok, Our waitress arrived quickly and we ordered drinks and she asked if we were ready to order (a little pushy for me) we did order appetizers which arrived very quickly. My wife noticed a long black hair (not her color) they were appologetic and said they would give another. Meanwhile we ordered our dinner. Before i didnt finish half a drink of beer and out come the meals,,,,prob less than 10 min obviously pre cooked and we were still waiting for our hairless appetizers to arrive. My wifes crab legs were immitation. Overall the food was not bad but got worse the more you ate, The waitresses seemed hurried and talked on little earphone setups to be more efficient i guess...the place was as romantic a mc donalds. We will NEVER eat at what I call McThai again. PS; they never even offered to comp the hairy appetizer and by then i didnt care anymore, There are many Thai places to eat in Hollywood, dont waste you time eating at this one.....this is the worst Thia ive had in Hollywood. I strogly believe that most of the reviews are writin by ownership of this restaurant....

Food is great for the price. I love their more exotic menu (frog legs, wild boar), and the garnishes were very fresh. Place is a little large and loud, and tables are cafeteria-style, good for big groups, but not at all for intimate dates. Unfortunately, my food came way before my companion's, and I waited at least 10 minutes with my food cooling waiting for hers to arrive. Not only that, but my side of plain rice arrived five minutes before my entree! What am I supposed to do with that? Came on a night when the karaoke guy wasn't around, but I can assume it's pretty fun.

Went here last night to introduce my boyfriend to Thai food, which he claimed he "thought" he didn't like. Well was he wrong. He loved it. We got there (no reservations) and only had to wait liek 5 minutes to be seated at aroudn 8:30pm Friday night. We sat at the bar and had a Singha and a Thai Iced Tea ($6 for both).

Ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Pad See Ew and Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. All were really good, our favorite being the Chicen Pad Thai. The portions were great, those 3 dishes were way too much food for us, we easily could've shared with another 2 people. The meal came to $21 for those 3 dishes (tax inlcuded). So not bad at all.

The Space is very nice, really open and bright, the only thing is it is a bit loud because the room is so big and there are no partitions or anything to break up the sound. But the "Thai Elvis" performed and he was good and funny. Sorta like listening to karaoke while you eat. :-D The service was very fast too. Food prob only took another 5-10 minutes after we ordered it to come out.

Would HIGHLY recommend, its very easy to get to. We were comign from Burbank, took like 10 minutes to get there, its RIGHT off the 101 once you get onto Hollywood Blvd. There is plenty of street parking nearby on the neighborhood streets, took us prob 5 minutes to find a space about a block and a half away. Definitly no need to valet.

I've been going to Palms for the past couple of years however it took years of mediocre Thai restaurants to find. The Pad See Ew is one of the best I have ever had as is the fried rice ( I like the combo). It does get crowded but don't let that deter you because the food comes out quickly. My meals have been rather consistent. Some of my favorite dishes are the BBQ pork, BBQ beef with garlic and lime, and their sticky rice is to die for! If the food alone doesn't get you, Thai Elvis will. He is actually quite good and if you are even luckier, the bartender will sing a few songs (he is a great impersonator!) I agree with others that the valet is quite sketchy and I feel at times that they take my car around the curves too quickly and are reckless in parking the cars.

I went to Palms Thai on Friday night and found the food to be OK. We ordered two dishes -- the Pad Thai was fine but the in other stir-fry noodle dish had a vegetable that was not cleaned properly (it tasted like dirt/sand)

BE VERY CAREFUL about the valet. I walked around Hollywood for a couple of hours after eating leaving my car parked at Palms Thai. When I came back, both valets informed me that I was not allowed to leave my car there after eating. They told me unless I paid them off, that they wouldn't release my car and would have it towed. They extorted $40 from me to get my car back. STAY AWAY!!!

I came here to eat with a couple of girlfriends, one who is Thai. She was so very impressed with the authenticity of the food, as was I. We ordered quite a few dishes, and they were prepared very well, and served similarly to the way they would be served in Thailand (or so I was told). Even the Thai iced-tea had a distinctly better taste to it than most that I have had. Our servers were very friendly and even gave us directions to some of the best Thai dessert houses which were just down the road. The only thing I regret is that we were not there when the Thai Elvis performed, and our valet parking attendant left an alcohol-like smell in our car. Small details :)

Besides the great value and unbelievable Phad Thai the service is top-notch. Ask for Wandee. She works on Sundays and her great smile and charm never disappoints! Enjoy!

Maybe you came because you heard about the Elvis, but the food and cheap pricing will win you over. I've been going to this establishment since before they moved. Trust, from someone who used to live in Thailand and still goes there often, this is good Thai food.

There really is nothing better than a small Thai man wearing patent leather (extremely shiny) black platforms and a taupe. It truly made my night. The food was very good (with the exception of the soup, it tasted vaguely like an armpit), but if nothing else, you MUST go to see this guy perform. As you eat, you sit pondering weather you're at a really awkward wedding reception or an underbudget bar mitzvah, and it's GREAT. You're guaranteed a great time with lots of suppressed laughter. Hail to Elvis.

I like their morning glory (ong choy). Their shoo shee shrimp was awesome. Most of the dishes I've had are great, and many are just good, but, you have to know what to order, as some of the dishes aren't so special. I'm not sure if it's authentic, but, i like it. Also, I'm not sure, but I think the cook(s) defected from Ruen Pair, because at one point several years ago, the food at Palms got much better (and the lines at RP got a lot shorter) and Elvis moved from the food court to Palms. Then Palms got a website and moved to the current location.

I just had my birthday dinner there a few weeks ago and the food was great, service was pretty good considering the size of our party, and the Thai Elvis on Saturdays is very entertaining. The valet parking connected to the restaurant is also really convenient. The only minor downfall is that it's hard to try and reserve a table for more than twelve at the restaurant but the staff was still very accomadating. All my friends loved it!!

now i don't know exactly about what is "authentic" or what isn't. All i know is that i ordered the pad see-ew and it was exquisite. Tasted very fresh and flavorful. The ambience isn't anything special, but if you want very tasty thai very cheap, give palms a try.

I love this place. I frequented the old venue, and while I miss its dank-darkness, the new location is much nicer: larger and more show time! First of all the, the food is incredible. They have a HUGE selection of authentic Thai (pad thai is good, but there's SO much more to life guys). The service is high-throughput style, so don't expect the wait staff to dote on you--they want to get you in and out! If you can stand the pressure, hang out for a while because Thai Elvis is completely adorable! Close your eyes: it's Elvis. Open your eyes: it's a cute little Thai guy in floods and platforms! Plus there are other singers like the guy with the sparkle shirt who sings falsetto bee gees tunes one minute and deep Louis Armstrong tunes the next. This is somewhere EVERYONE should go. I'm taking my parents this weekend!

The waiters are incompetent! We went when the restaurant opened and were the first ones there but four other parties received their food before us (same order). We waited 30 minutes and complained to several staff members and still nobody brought us our food. When we asked the staff to speak to the manager, they ignored us and pretended there was no manager/supervisor available. When I called the restaurant back three days in a row, they never bothered to call me back. Only come here if you're wanting to have a good fight!

We had a large party, which caused some difficulty with the host. But once we got out food, we forgot everything. There were 10 of us and we all tried everything. It was delicious. The shrimp hot pot was awesome. The garlic chicken very garlicky. And the pineapple friend rice was delicious. Food was cheap, as were the beers Biggest downside is the atmosphere. It's loud and too bright - very much like a high school cafeteria. One of the reasons we went was to see Thai Elvis, whcih was cool. But were were seated too far away and could barely hear anything. Overall, food great. Atmosphere not so great.

We loved the old Palms Thai, but they moved to a shiny neon mall spot in east Hollywood. The ambieance is gone, it was ridiculously crowded, and the service was beyond terrible. It was so loud that our waitress was screaming into her headpiece, and they still couldn't hear her. Forget about having a conversation.

We were with a group of 6 - it took us 15 minutes to get our drinks, then half the entrees arrived before we received our appetizers. We waited another 10 minutes for the other entrees. We ordered another round of drinks and the hostess came over and said "We need to turn over your table, so can you wrap it up?"!!! We had only been there for about an hour, and were still waiting for our order!

Food's still good, but there are plenty of better Thai restaurants in LA without the hassle.
