I like this place! When I have a day off during the week my wife and I will sometimes go here. The food is very tasty and the price is right. Best of all my kids like it too, which is a good thing because they are picky eaters. The service is average, but very accommodating. The deserts are worth the money! Good place!

Every household should have a "default" restaurant and El Perico is where we go when we want good Mexican food at reasonable prices.

El Perico Ranchero means "The Parrot Ranch" and parrots galore greet you - but don't fear for your favorite baseball cap - all are artificial. You are immediately seated in either their prime eating area or in a separate, back room depending on whether or not they are busy!

Start with the table-side guacamole - made to order. I saw this service performed FIRST at this restaurant back when they were situated next to the Sycamore Inn. Made to order, the appetizer is made of two fresh avocados, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, cilantro and a seasoned salt blend. No mayo. No sour cream. Nope. This is healthy stuff - except for the tortilla chips used for dipping.

Then on to the main course. The standard combination dinners - enchiladas, tacos, etc are there, but hold out for the specials. My husband likes the Chicken ala Mexicana - chicken breast sauteed with onions, peppers and tomatoes in a mild Mexican sauce. I like the Shrimp Cocktail - big enough for a meal! Beware of the burritos - the Chile Relleno Burrito is big enough for three meals (I know - I regularly take the left overs home). We've never had the margaritas, but they are ordered by other diners.

Also, this is a great place for breakfast. Most people don't think of a Mexican place for breakfast on weekends, so this is one place you don't need to wait on a Sunday morning.

The only complaint is that they don't bring the check at the end of the meal as quickly as they should. We often need to ask for it. But if that's the only complaint, hey, I can live with it.

Go and visit El Perico for an excellent time and good food. Then go home and plan for a nap, since that's all you'll want to do after all that great food.

El Perico Ranchero has the most authentic mexican food I've had in a long time. They have a full bar and my favorite is the gucamole appetizer the make fresh next to your table. Fun to watch and great tasting.
