Why resort to a chain restaurant when you can take a "cruise" to the historic San Gabriel landmark, Clearman's Galley? Known to locals as "The Boat" it was originally launched on the water in 1913 as a mail-service vessel between San Francisco and Alaska. San Gabriel Valley resident John Clearman brought it inland to San Gabriel in 1968, where it became a burger stand with patio seating. Now, 40 years after serving its first burger, "The Boat" has expanded to seat almost 300 patrons (plus a patio big enough for 90). A new full-service bar serving up to two dozen beer labels entices brew lovers. Big-screen HD TVs appeal to sports fans and add to the fun, family-friendly dining experience. If you love classic boats, you'll love the collection of miniature vessels encased in the main dining hall. Come aboard for great food, to watch championship sports, and for a rousing good time!

This place is MIA until at least the end of the year.

by wandernn1

BOOOO! What used to be a busy corner with a great burger place\sports bar is now a big pile of dirt. And it looks like they're going to rebuild it south of the fire station. This will make parking a catastrophe. Well, hopefully the new place will do the old one justice, because us regulars are going to be put on hold for a year or more it appears. North Woods Inn is pretty dead over there as well. Hope you still have customers once all that construction is done.

Pros: It WAS a great place to go.

Cons: It's Missing in Action

Always "The Boat"

by catracks

The ship from Northwood's Inn is the place to go if you want Clearman's salad's and cheese bread, but in an even more relaxed, kickback, casual atmosphere. Get the salad, bread, chili burgers, huge beers and watch the game. It's perfect for a get together of old and new friends. Kids love this place too. This is the place to take the family and still feel like you had an adult night out (unless you have reall annoying children). There is plenty of video games and good times for all.

Pros: Great burgers and salad ... BEER!!

Cons: You have to buy the beer ;-)

Bigfoot

Great place to take the family for dinner. Now with the selection of children sized portions and the Chiefs Salad, for the low carb dieters. I can hardly wait for the new place to open.

Pros: Inexpensive, fast service, good variety

Great Experience!

by choirbywdy

I used to come here years ago with a group of people from work. Last night I brought my kids here and they had the time of their lives. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better! They loved watching baseball on the big screen TV's and simply dug into their food. The cheese bread was so delicious, I got into line again just for a second side order.

Pros: great food, clean, easy parking

THE BOAT!!!

by eyeliner1

This place has the best burgers, chicken, cheesebread and salads. And on top of all of the good food, you get to order direct from the cooks in a boats galley! They have 2 LARGE screen TVs, video games for the kids and even keno. I recommend eating at this place.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Crowded

SGV's finest chili burgers

by dussellrott

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I'd love it even more if Arcadia's bravest and finest didn't frequent the place so much. But still, it is an awesome place to slam a brew (or a few) and watch a sports game while you're stuffing your face with the best damn chili burger in the San Gabriel Valley.
