The Barbecue Pit has been around for a long time. I have visited this place many times. The ribs are great and the portions are huge. I especially like the pork ribs the sauce is very tasty. I recommend this place to everyone.

Yummy. They serve Hofbrau style, and the food is hot and delicious. It is a little dive place in a strip mall but worth stopping at, large portions for a reasonable price.

The Barbecue Pit has been around San Diego for several years. I have been tot he one in El Cajon as well as National City. They both have the best ribs around.

I grew up going to the one on Balboa Avenue and the location closed down. When I discovered the other location I was SO HAPPY and now I drive the distance to go there. I literally inhale my beef sandwich so now I order 2!!!

This place looks like the BBQ joints I frequented as a child in West Texas. The beef, which is pretty much all I ever order, is smoked and served with the sauce on the side, as a proper BBQ should be. The main difference is that they use oak wood to smoke, not mesquite, so the flavor is not the same, but it's darned good beef! The beans are more yankee-style baked beans and not pintos, as you'd expect with BBQ, but the coleslaw is tasty. The portions are generous, they have specials from time to time, and it's a great value for the money. I have had the hotlinks (good), the chicken (very nice) and the ham (also good). On Fridays (I think) they have a stew like what mom used to make, but run out of it fast. Can't say enough good about this place - they also give discounts to seniors. Enjoy!

Pros: really good food, plenty of it

Cons: lines can be long during "rush" times, closed on Sundays

Like most BBQ joints there is nothing fancy about the decor here, after all good barbecue is about the food, not the restaurant and this place is no exception to that rule. Unfortunately that?s about where the ?good barbeque? experience ends. It was a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not crowded at all (should have been a clue). My wife ordered Ham with fries; I had the daily special ? pulled pork sandwich with fries and beans. My wife?s ham was completely flavorless and her fries were woefully under cooked, as were mine. My sandwich was average, nothing special. Just pork on a plain hamburger bun (I think it?s hard to mess up pull pork). The beans were tasty, I will have to admit, I have had a lot of bad beans at BBQ joints, and these were pretty good. The most interesting thing is the sauce itself; it is on the watery side which is fine, I don?t get caught up in the consistence of my sauce as long as it?s good. It has a very distinct spice flavor, Cloves I think, which kept my interest and helped when eating the fries. Guess we should have asked for extra to drown the ham in. Over all, the sauce alone is not enough to make me stop here again. Sorry..

Pros: Interesting Sauce

Cons: Undercooked Fries

Local BBQ chain attracts families and grill masters looking for tangy, thin sauce, plus chicken, ribs, pork and all the sides.
