I dont know what else to say except that this school was one of the worst decisions of my life. I see what all the other reviews were talking about now, and they all seem to be coming true. The orientation made the school look great, but now that I have been here awhile I see that is not the case. The teachers are blatantly rude and try to control everything you do, and they have a horrible attitude problem. It reminds me of highschool how the staff act towards the students. Your not treated like an equal adult. Nothing is organized, and the teachers really have no idea whats going on.Clinicals are a joke. class is so boring.

If you have a family, kids, work, or any sort of life outside of the school, then this is DEFINITELY not the place for you. I do not reccomend. I am researching other schools to see if i can switch or what i can do because judging by the other reviews, I cannot take another 9 months of this.

Goodluck in your search. I wouldnt wish this "school" on my worst enemy.

regretfulstudent v is my classmate and i could not agree with her more. We attend pcnla, we started only a few months ago and it has turned out to be the biggest joke i cant even believe i fell for it.

id like to add a few things

theyre not interested in ur success, only ur money. The other class from before us confirmed this by letting us know how they werent even allowed to switch to part time even though it was difficult for them to continue.
this schools catchphrase, including the teachers, should be the words "i dont know" since this is what i constantly hear. If they dont admit they dont know, they tell you something they made up off the top of their head.
and good luck doing patient assessments if your coming here. and hopefully you already know your labs, because somewhere in your program around the beginning of term 2, ur just magically supposed to know all the normal values even though you never learned them or were told to learn them, and they will be on your tests.
GOODLUCK! hope you dont mind spending thousands of dollars to pass a test your most likely going to fail. if ur smart ull listen to these reviews and go somewhere else. i read these and i still came. im example of stupid.dont follow my lead

if i could rate negative stars i would. I feel like I dont even like the medical field anymore and I had been desiring this since I had been a young child. They ruined my love for nursing due to the CONSTANT frusterations of this school. They teach you and then turn around and test you on something different. You cant win! Even if you feel you did incredible on the test, SOMEHOW you end up getting a 50? not only that, but when were supposed to be learning skills, were usually just watching an instructional video. and then they force you to present a careplan and like lenny c said, they eat you alive. Its so nervewracking and you dont even leave with anything gained from it. Its like their goal is to embarrass you in front of a crowd of people. At least you should be prepared to be interviewed in front of a panel at a hearing if you ever mess up during your career. I bet theyre nicer there too. And as others have mentioned, you have to deal with your own graduation. All i can say is if your reading this, go to another school. Marian is right across the street...I heard good things from them.

This school sucks! Students can graduate without knowing anything. Dumb school produces dumb students. The management staff are very disorganize giving different teachers who do not coordinate with each other. The teacher who replace the other one do not know what to teach them or are not aware if she is suppose to give a test or skill class. Teachers(most of them like 90%, i just know 2 teachers who handled us who are really strict on exams) are just so disrespectful to their profession that even cheating in front of them don't mind. What an insult to the teacher! And if students are taking during the major exams like FINALS ann unit test, teachers are just doing something in the computer. Exams are there to check how much the student learn not just for the sake of taking it and move on to the next term. what a waste of time being in this school. it is so unfair for people to study and make effort by giving up their personal time, work and family time just to study. They are very disorganized and very unhelpful to students who wants to pursue nursing. so if i were you, you better study on your own. because there's no way for your to pass NCLEX if you just rely on them. I hope the management will do something about this otherwise this school will be close soon for their bad reputation. The price is not bad but it is still a big amount of money to waste if you don't pass and pursue nursing just because you did a bad choice of school.

Do not. I repeat Do not waste your time with this school. I am currently a student and this school has been a headache. Clinicals suck. The instructors suck. It is very unorganized. They just want your money. They don't give a damn about you. If you complain it is always your fault. I came here for the price. I should of known better. Oh and a graduation is not included. You have to raise your own money for graduation. Venue and everything, and of course they don't tell you that. I truly regret this damn school. I hope their license gets taken.

A student was kicked out of this school by the horrible lead Instructor from the Philippines. He hired an attorney and threatened to sue the school if he wasn't readmitted. The student claims this Instructor lied. All the students hate

I've read most of the reviews on this web page and might I say the bad reviews hold the correct information about this school. I strongly do not recommend this school to anybody who wishes to pursue a career in nursing, it will destroy your dreams and interest in it. Not to mention the great amount of money you will be investing, I'm sorry, I mean wasting. The staff here is so unprofessional and disrespectful, like a comment below me mentioned, its like their doing you the favor when in fact if it wasn't because of their students, they'd be in the unemployment line. This is school is poorly organized, poorly managed, and poorly educates. If you intend on getting an LVN license this is the wrong place, Please DO NOT COME HERE. TRUST ME. I cannot emphasize how much YOU WILL REGRET IT!

If your planning on going to preferred college, I HIGHLY SUGGEST you take your money, walk to the nearest paper shredder, and deposit it, all of it, through the shredders into a trashcan. Then, if you would like to have a sample of what coming to this school is like, walk to your nearest nursing home, and ask if you can feed the patients. This is like your clinical day. If you would like to sample what class time is like, turn on the TV to the grass growing channel, or the paint drying channel. This is like your lecture day. Then, if you would like to know what its like to complain to the school about how horrible they are, just walk yourself to the nearest wall, and bang your head against it repeatedly. Do all of this for 6-8 hours a day for 12 months for the equivalent PCN-LA experience. ;)

This school has been a complete waste of time and money! Clinicals are a joke sitting here doing absolutely nothing but stare at each other for 6 hours. Class materials are not properly organized where the teachers teach then guess what half of it does not come it on our test! The gay head matter does belong here cause this school is f*cking gay! they enforce policies but not to all students! Do not refer this school save your people from coming here!

This School Is Seriously A Joke. I Don't Even Know Where To Start. I Agree On Everything With Jenny C. Let's See Where Do I Start, Clinicals Are A Waste Of Time, As A CNA I Think I Get More Hands On From My Job Than From This School, Its Very Poorly Organized From The Tests To Clinicals, Teachers To Schedules Its All Over The Place. The Teachers Are Very Unprofessional, And Their Teaching Matter Is Horrible, And Worst Some Of Them Speak Their Foreign Language With Students Which Leaves Us Other Students Looking Clueless Through Out Class Which Brings Me To The School Catalog Which Is Not Even Followed Or Regulated, Atleast For Some Students...Or Teachers! The Education Here Is Crap I Think I Can Teach Myself Better Than Most Of These Classes And Teachers, And Yess "Oggie" I Actually Passed All Of My Classes With 90's And I Am Still BITTER About The School, You Want To Know My Secret, STARBUCKS, Atleast 6 Hours In Starbucks Teaching Myself The Material, Because of The Poor Education And Organization Of This School. Its Just Horrible Don't Waste Your Time or Money, Find Yourself A Good School And Please Always Follow The BAD Reviews Because Trust Me No One Would Really Take The Time To Write A Bad Review Unless They Are EXTREMELY UNSATISFIED! By The Way PCNLA Nursing Staff There's More Students Than Teachers, So No Matter How Many Of You Take The Time To Write A Good Review There Will Be Atleast 3 Or 4 Unsatisfied Students Writing A Bad One! Have A Pleasant Day.

jenny c said it correctly about numerous things: tests are totally outdated. Students are constantly having to challenge tests and mid terms because the answer key is incorrect. Heard the DON was let go so that the Owner could do that job(that makes no sense)Everyone loved her, owners didnt like her. The new DON, watch out, nasty man who yells at his staff right in front of classes. The DON also talks about certain classes with other classes about how much he doesn't like them.
DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL! They got approved for Financial Aid, fired the financial aid representative and raised their prices.
Jenny C. doesnt understand why there are so many good reviews. The owners are upset over all the online bad reviews, so they have asked all of their staff to go online and post a positive review. That request came directly from the DON.

This school is pathetic, DO NOT GO HERE!

There clinicals are all over the place, never at a subject your actually studying!!! EVER!!! You will most likely be at a nursing home the ENTIRE program, during surgical, pediatric, ER, maternity everything! If your not at your nursing home, you spend alot of your clinical days IN THE CLASSROOM, because the instructors call in sick ALL THE TIME. They say they are connected to all these clinical sites. I wonder why nobody goes to them. You will not recieve the schedule until the day before your next term, and you will not know where your clinicals are often until the day before. You will have your clinicals cancelled the morning or even an hour before your supposed to be there. One of the teachers even forces the class to drive to a place away from the clinical site, to go out to eat before you can even go home.
YOU WILL ONLY HAVE 14 DAYS OF PHARMACOLOGY, AND ITS 50% OF YOUR TERM GRADE!!

Depending on your clinical site, you probably wont do many procedures. You will pass out medications, take vitals, feed, and check blood sugar of patients. Thats it. and you will only do one a day, not all of them. During your first term, you will probably take vitals and then do nothing the rest of the day. Same thing next term. You may have other classes farther along in the program at your clinical site at the same time as you, and they do everything. There are alot of very simple things at the clinical sites your not allowed to do. Like wound care. Sometimes the nurses dont even let the students pass medications, or do blood sugar checks, so you take vitals and then do nothing the rest of the day. When your supposed to be practicing the procedures in school, with most teachers all you do is read the manuel. No dummys, nothing. The teachers are either boring, or stupid, with the exception of maybe 3. The tests are old, and are written terribly, with poor grammar. When i say old i mean old. You can read the chapters of the new book, and still not pass the tests, You can be told a correct answer before the test, mark it, and then get it marked wrong after. Each staff member says and does something different. This is the most unorganized place of business. The DON is....just Avoid him at all costs. trust me.
You will have a comprehensive exam about halfway through the program, where you will be tested on everything you had learned so far, except you wont have all the books your learned with. Some of them are loaned, and you may not keep them, or take them home after you return them when the class is over.
They only enforce the rules for some students, but not all.
You have to go in front of all the teachers there every term and present a careplan, during which all the instructors will make an effort to make you feel really stupid. You can copy the careplan from the chart and they will still find a trillion things wrong with it, and tell you it wont fly at a place of employment. They will be very nice to you and take very very good care of you during the beginning few classes. Until your financial aid goes through. Then they dont care about anything anymore. You would think they were paying you for a service for how they treat their students, not the other way around. They dont treat you like a customer, its more like a high school, with their petty rules, making big deals about school emblems not sewn on around the entire perimeter, and about being 30 seconds late. Plus you have to schedule, plan and pay for your own graduation. The school does NOTHING.

I do not know where these good reviews are coming from, or if they had different staff back then or what, but during my stay, the place was a joke. The only explanation for the good reviews is the staff is writing them, because all the bad reviews are right on par. I hear theyre opening an RN program. Good god, dont go there.

If i could do it again, I WOULD NOT!!!!!

By the way "Oggie M.", living in America is nice because you have the right to say whatever you wish without fear of being persecuted. That remark isnt even a case of libel because, the DON IS gay, and technically, he is the "headmaster". Personally, i couldnt care less about a persons sexual orientation, but i believe the point of the post was to indicate that the man is not very nice. Which I second. Plus you enjoy the DONs company so much that you went out of your way to read the post to your class and they were seriously deeply offended? I find that hard to believe. Very hard to believe.

I love preferred college!! i??m in term 2 lvn and have got my little brother to sign up in the cna class also! my classmates are great we learn a lot and have very good instructors who can truly teach us well from their own experience as a nurse and the location is very convenient for me to ride the red line.

I picked preferred college because everyone was very helpful and warm in explaining the classes, answering my questions and helping get my federal aid to pay all the tuition (which is much lower than all the other schools I researched).

I talked to 6 other lvn schools and found most of them very unpolite and not easy to feel comfortable with so I choose pcn and made the right decision!

I think I know who Barbara D. is cuz she sounds like a girl who was in my class and was flunking out but always complained about things the school can??t control (like parking rates and the school location). she never did homewok and always complained when she was being tutored so the school had to let her leave before she kept bothering the serious students any more.

I love my instructors too and they are not all filipino but Barbara D. was always mad when anyone spoke a different language because she thought they were talking about her. I personally do call my instructors by ??ms? or ??sir? as a way of respect a lot of students do also but I was never told I had to.

I also like how instructors are different races cuz its new experiences for me to learn from their lives that I wouldn??t ever know.

If you want to go to school just call them and you will see for yourself everything I am saying is true! pcn is a great school!!

I love this School and currently attending. I dont know what Barbara D. was talking about but parking is discounted and its only 6 dollars weekday days and 3 dollars for nights and weekends. As far as only filipino instructors are hired, you know thats not true, So far i have Ms. Renee who is Black and Ms. Daisy who is indian and so on. I love my instructors so far. Everyone welcome to Term 3

I am a proud soon-to-be graduate of Preferred College of Nursing in Los Angeles. Everyone has been a huge part of my success in the goal I started with more than a year ago.
There's a saying, "a few have fallen" and this holds true to our class. Happy to be a month away from graduation but sad to see others go. I have grown to learn and love this class, the instructors who have much to offer, and the endless support the administration has for us.
I would like to say that I am very proud of what I have started and about to finish with PCN. Sad to say that a few have fallen. But i only ask my classmate Ellenor B. to try again without trying to be the sour-grape just because you flunked. My experiences in clinicals and lectures are going to be treasured for as long as I can nurse the sick, help those in need, and be an instrument of goodness as has been taught and shhown to me by my role models at PCN.
By the way Elle, writing about "gay headmaster" can really get you in trouble with Human Equality rights activist, but I know you do not care, so it just shows how your emotion and intellect are truly worth. It is no wonder. It shockked our class that you would actually have problems with the gay community with your hateful remark. So many 21st century events have come and gone, annd your thinking about the gay people is outward coward and rightfully stupid. So sorry that you did not pass the nursing school but you deserve it being a PREJUDICE and Gay Hater.
I will forward your review to the City of Los Angeles "Hate Crime Busters" and they will have to investigate your hateful remark.
Hope your holiday brings you lots of health, happiness and much luck in life.
God Bless Elle.

Yes they have financial aid already but still they want money from the students, their tuition fee was 19,500 and they only approve 15k.

now students must paythe remaining balance of 4500 or 200 a month and if you fail to pay that you are terminated from the program.

Although professional looking and sounding, the school is a joke. it promotes underage drinking with its parties and events. they also provide 2nd, 3rd, 4th... chances to pass thereby producing poor quality graduates which is scary considered they are a nursing school. also, beware of the sexual harassment from the the gay headmaster!

If by any chance you are a good student who can review and study on your own, the FOB instructors will mess up your english grammar and pronunciation because of their poor handle of the english language.

happy you read this review?

I am graduate of PCN-Van Nuys (batch 18) and I would say the over all education they provide is EXCELLENT. I went on an 18-month part time program (Fri-Sat-Sun) and the teachers and clinical instructors were very competent and considerate. .
There were 31 of us in our class when we first started, but 2 people were eliminated in the program. The school offers Free tutorial classes for those who need it and FREE NCLEX reviews. 94% of our class passed the NCLEX the first time we took it and 15 of us only answered the minimum 85 questions and passed!
Our clinical sites were not only limited in skilled nursing facilities but also acute hospitals. In the SNF we learned to do wound treatments, mini procedures like catheter insertions, wound vac, staple removals, insertion of NG tubes. Where as in the acute hospitals, we learned about triage and mastered tracheostomy care.
And with all humility, it only took me 3 week to get a job after I received my license. The DON, was impressed with the clinical experience I had, she hired me on the spot eventhough Im a fresh grad!

I am very thankful of my expereince in graduating from Preferred College of Nursing in Los Angeles. I started out as a LVN by passing the Board exam one time only. Now I am a RN and thankful to my past mentors in my early nursing years. God bless and more power to you all.

Pros: Great customer service from the employees.

Cons: Very fast paced, very challenging nursing program

I went to Preferred College of Nursing in Carson and Mr. Jaret was really wonderful to me and he helped me through with their LVN program. Unfortunately my job moved to hollywood area and I had no choice but to change school. But mr. jaret assisted me without problem to transfer to the Preffered College of Nursing in Los Angeles 10 minutes from my job. They do have a very hard program, I think. But I was glad to finish their with one shot in the NCLEX exam. I did not know any other school that provided free NCLEX review classes for their students. It was very worth the trouble.

There are a lot of complaints about this school on here and I have a feeling that these were people who did not fair so well in the class. I read all of he other reviews before posting mine and saw a lot of untrue statements.

First of all, there is a computer lab with a bunch of newer computers for student use. You may have been the kind of student who just did not bother to ask about it, and assumed there was none.

Second, it is not a cash only school. They offer help with Sallie Mae Loans(Which I Have) and also offer monthly payments with no interest.

Third, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and don't have any issues communicating when I have quesitions. Maybe they have replaced some staff members in the last year.

Finally, I am confident in the education that I am getting. Look it up on the Board of Vocational Nursing;s site. PCN graduates a higher percentage than most schools. If you'd rather spend twice as much money on a school with a lower pass rate because of what some disgruntled drop-out students say, then be my guest. It will keep my class smaller and I will get more face time with my instructors. :-)

This is a horrible school. The owners are HORRIBLE. Its a family running this school and each of their branches are horrible. Van Nuys, LA, and Carson among others. All is incompetent. They lack communication between themselves and students. This school will screw you over, I guarantee it. I wouldn't be surprised if this school had a lawsuit comin' their way.

Big mistake!!!! This school is the worst LVN school. Every staff has their own way of running the school. Their Director for Student Affairs is one UNFAIR, lunatic lady who's very judgmental, authoritative and once locked up her other students from class. There is no excuse for this behavior...and surprisingly nobody cared from the administrators because she is still the director after so much complains for so many reasons. They have set rules in their student handbook but none of them were ever used. They use old tests with wrong information and wrong answer keys!!! Who would have time to consult a staff just to make sure you passed and not failed because of the wrong answer key? Their clinical schedules are a mess. If you are on Maternity and Pediatrics course, you will be assigned to a nursing home! Isn't that messed up?!! I feel really sorry for us who chose PCN-LA (thinking it's good and cheap) for not having a great clinical opportunity and poor teaching skills from some profs. This school has done nothing good for me except charge me cheap and give me a cheap service. All they emphasize on is proper uniform!!! Funny thing is you see 99% of students in proper uniforms!!! Geeez! Work on your program, staff's professionalism and school's policy!!! No leakage pleaseeeeeeeee!!!

Preferred College of Nursing preferred to get paid CASH ONLY. They have a financial aide department but they don't provide financial aide. I had a co-signer with 800 points in credit and PCN claimed my co-signer didn't pass.
Being a nursing student doesn't mean we are already a nurse. $1,000 or more in cash is too much for the students to pay monthly for a short period of time.

Very unorganized, lower cost than most other vocational schools, but definitely not worth it. A language other than English is spoken frequently in front of the students, who only speak English, and that is just not right. This is in class by the instructors and administration. I would not recommend this school to anyone-they don't even have any computers for student use. This school is all about the money and they forget that the students are there to learn about nursing. If we wanted or could teach ourselves we would go on-line and not pay thousands of dollars.
