Is it just me or does this place stand out like a sore thumb amoungst the dive bars on Fillmore. If you ask me, let the triangle bars be divey and don't try to change this street into something it's not. This bar would best exist

Pros: Nice ambiance, Marina crowd

Cons: Wrong neighborhood

.

This place used to be off the hook!! it has slowed down quite a bit, now the staff is a little rude, always full of guys and the girls are those kind of girls who think they are too good to talk to anyone but they are still not that good looking and a little overweight?other then that the place is nice, I like the mood and the drinks are strong and tasty!

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Snoby clientele

Our group got here around 8-ish on a saturday. The place was pretty empty and the waitress suggested we can sit in the area between the two rooms or the back room. We chose the back, and less than 10 minutes after we ordered our second round of drinks, we were being told that the area is now reserved and we must leave. Had we known that this area was reserved from 9pm onwards, we'd have chosen to sit somewhere else, but by this time, the place was packed. When confronted, the manager simply told us the staff knew the area of reserved and should've told us. But it seems like they just wanted our money and had us order drinks.
The staff is rude, uncaring, and seemingly oblivious to what area is reserved or not. Unless you are a group of 20 and have the $$ to reserve the entire section, don't bother with this place.
There are plenty of other places in this area where they actually treat you like human beings as opposed to dollar signs.

Overprice and BAD BAD Staffs, A lot of other places around that more welcome and friendly.
Don't waste your money here.

Over-priced, concierge-recommended spot that is nicely built, but soulless. Lot's of delusional, off-brand blondes if that's what you're into.

I really enjoy visiting friends at the Matrix. I've been going there for the past few years and actually love it. The staff is great and the music is enjoyable. There isn't to much other to write, but its a wonderful place to meet people.

The place is great, I like their location, service and cozy fireplace... but don't go there on Friday, or Saturday. It's way too packed, everyone is trying to be high rollers... sometimes it looks really funny! Check it out on Tuesday, or maybe Sunday.... IT'S HAPPENING!!!

why does everyone say it is oozing with beautiful people? Nope, my hometown is So. Cal. and hanging out in L.A. was nothing like hanging out at the Matrix. The bar is nice, and swanky, but it is full of tourists, and guys and gals who think they are the hottest thing around since, well you know what I mean.

The drinks are ok, the music leaves something to be desired, but the actual space itself is nice, minus the tricky seating arrangements. One of the big problems (other than the place being full of people that are way too full of themselves), is that you have to get in early to get any kind of seat. The place gets so crowded that you can't even move!

The bouncers obviously didn't know how to count b/c they had WAY too many people - was crowded beyond belief w/ snobby wannabe yuppies sipping gross-tasting drinks - they might as well serve rubbing alcohol. Bartenders pretend to know what goes into your order. You're lucky to even get a drink with the this crowd - can barely breath, let alone move - absolutely hot and stuffy, yet they still had a fireplace going? What brilliance. Couches become obstacles to maneuver around as you try to find a seat, which are all piled up with patrons' jackets, purses, etc. I even spotted a couple of homeless people mingling around the crowd! I thought this would be an upscale venue to enjoy a Friday night but was incredibly wrong - will not go back again. And by the way, the music sounded more like stripping music than lounge/dance.

Cons: bad drinks, CROWDED, over-priced

i went and had a nice time. i have money though. nice and not meat markety. good drinks, bartender's polite, and they have waitresses so you can sit on the couch and have someone bring your martini while you chat. musics okay, not good if your are a more of a raver. crowed mary jane friendly. didn't feel the slightest bit like people were judging me and could totally chill in this club. i am returning

the reveiws complaining about yuppies are from haters, get a job.

Matrix is a bar in the Marina. However, unlike other Marina bars, there aren't any good looking people there. I was looking forward to see a LA-type crowd that was pretentious, rich, and hot, but unfortunately that was not the case here. It was apparent from looking at the crowd that no one was having that great of a time. If you're around Fillmore, try a place that has a more upscale clientele.

A lot of people tend to criticize the types who patronize this place, but I think there's often a very wide variety of people there. There's lots of suits, but there's also lots of young hot girls, old men, young men, guys in kilts. On top of that, the bartenders are pretty polite, and very good at making a drink--I recommend their Long Island. Furthermore, this place is beautiful inside, great lighting. Weekends can get very crowded, but still recommended.

i was visiting from LA one weekend and had time to kill with my friends so we stumbled on this place not knowing what to expect. At first we thought it was a gay bar because it was such a sausage-fest. but by 10:30p the girls flowed in and it turned into a great night. definitely some great eye-candy here. dj was okay and service was a little slow. we met a bunch of girls here...ironically they were also from LA. i'd go again next time i'm in SF.

I totally enjoy this place. Every time I've gone I've had a good time. FridaY'S are probably a better day to go-good music and its all about the eye candy. Saturday's aren't too great (think it's the DJ) but its still a fun place to chill. Definitely good looking people though!!!

My rating aside, Matrix does have some positive things going for it. It is very trendy, has good music, and good looking people. On the other hand it is always crowded to extremes, the good looking folks are sometimes not fun to talk to, and good luck trying to get a drink.

I had the displeasure of patronizing this establishment just the other night with my good friend Kernal. Needless to say, definitely more his type of place. Crowded with skyscraper and levee crowd, this place is for the birds. And honestly, who wants to watch Ren and Stimpy or Dragonball-Z while using the restroom, after standing in line for 57 minutes for a place that is only half full with Johnny Leather Jackets

After reading the reviews I almost didn't go. I was surprised and happy that I went. The place is unusually comfortable. Service was great actually, food was excellent and very cheap but the drinks were way over priced. I went on a Saturday and the crowd was really great, at least that night. Nice, attractive women. Everyone cordial overall.

The matrix is the epitome of the marina: snobby, haughty people with little to offer other than their new hairdo. The management and bartenders are a step below the rest of the clientele. Don't expect to be served unless you've given the bartender your phone #. There are plenty of other bars with a much better vibe than this one.

Fantastic service. Friendly bartenders. Excellent drinks. Terrific manager. I will be going back... every chance I get. Go ahead and give you money to other local bars, spread the wealth. I go back to MATRIXFILLMORE to enjoy a place where they value everyone, to enjoy the scene, and wonderful display of service.

The Matrix is in the Marina, therefore it is going to attract a Marina crowd. If you are comfortable with this crowd, then you will enjoy the space. If not, you will probably hate it. It is beautifully designed with an obvious amount of money behind it. There are plenty of seats and a very sexy fireplace. The drinks are on the expensive end. The service at the tables is spotty at best, but the service at the bar is dead on. You will find attitude in this bar, but mostly from the guests and not the staff.
What you wear here is important and people are looking.
Come prepared and enjoy yourself. It is what it is.

This place is straight "she-she!" The place is incredibly beautiful and stylish! The restrooms have tv's in them, and the paper towels to wipe your hands with, have the matrix fillmore name printed on it! Talk about going all out! The staff was friendly & cool! On top of that, everything is just plushed out! The people that lounge there are sophisticated & stylish! If anyone has a problem with this, they must not like getting spoiled! Yes, you will encounter that corny yuppie guy at the Matrix, but are they not at every other bar/lounge out there?!?

Went there to get one drink after dinner with some friends. I knew that they had a vodka that I like named Hangar One. So I asked for one, and after about a half pour the bottle runs out. The bartender said that she would go get another bottle. She comes back a few minutes later and says, oh the bottle is in an unopened case and she was not going to open it. So she says, i will just charge you 7 instead of 9 bucks. What kind of service is this?? A minute later the bar back puts a fresh bottle on the bar. What a JOKE.

this place was completely packed at 10:00pm. After fighting our way to the bar to get an overpriced drink, stood there getting pushed and elbowed until we could find a different place to hang out. We did finally find some comfy stools near the fireplacd which was nice, but other clientele was edgy and rude to us.

I'm from LA, you're all talking about how it's like an LA bar. Okay, well maybe it was like an LA bar in that it looked new and glitzy. As for the people though? Man it sucked. And the drinks... way way to expensive for the Gordon's brand Vodka. I too wish I had brought my Safeway Club card so that I could've gotten two drinks.
The people at the Matrix Fillmore were vacuous, pretentious, and typical SF yuppy human waste. Enjoy the Gordon's people, you deserve it.

I forget what a little microcosm of LA superficiality the Marina strives to be, Have I forgotten how superficial people can be? As one of the women said, the guys there were flitting around like moths to the most attractive flame that walked in the door. I was astounded by how junior high the whole scene was. Unless people really knew each other, or had walked in with a mixed-gender group, the women-only crowds and the men-only crowds eyed each other, but didn't really talk. Watching the girls huddle and talk about a guy, and the guy huddle with his friends and eye the girls. And the actual interactions...yelling to be heard over the bad music, people disappearing for half an hour at a time to get a drink or go to the bathroom... I may have to revert to full Berkeley hippie mode to recover from this traumatic experience.

I was tricked into going to this bar when I first moved here by some wannabe, on his way up the yuppy corportate ladder jerk. I was disgusted that I had to wait in line for 20 minutes and when we did get in, we could barley move around. I was also disgusted to see that the cocktail tables spelled out "sex" and to my dismay I turned around to see the "private and intimate" booths. On top of the place being extremely crowded, it was crowded with plastic, ridiculous, and petty people. Last time I checked, I was living in San Francisco and not LA

No bar in the Marina is ever going to escape the typical Marina-person stigma, however, I enjoyed this bar. I am not a Marina girl, but I am also not a reverse snob. If you enjoy a place with cool decor, lots of comfy couches and a cool mirrored back bar, this is your place. It reminded me of a boutique hotel bar, like something you'd find at the Standard in LA. The Matrix definately fits a certain type of night. If you feel like slipping on jeans and listening to Guided By Voices, go to Zeitgiest for a cozy beer on the patio. If you wanna dress up and look at a lot of saline, round 'em up and head to Matrix. It is very entertaining, and the Mojito rocks.

The place does tend to get crowded on "busy" nights (Friday-Sunday) but is great on slow nights (i.e. Monday-Wednesday) for small groups of friends. The bartenders are very knowledgeable of the drinks they serve (I recommend the cosmo), and the servers are friendly. It is the perfect place to cap of an evening of dining in the Cow Hallow/Marina district.

I have never been asked by a bartender as to why I left a certain dollar amount as a tip. Maybe they should try SERVING the customers instead of expecting a huge tip. If you want good service, DO NOT come here.

Cons: No Parking, Terrible Service, Crowded

A bar for the older crowd.
Kind of lame, but its cheap ...
Good drinks.

Pros: drinks

Cons: old people, music

I wouldn't brave this place on the weekends, but Wednesday night seems to have a nice group of people and it isn't too crowded.

Pros: nice atmosphere, attractive people

Cons: pricey drinks, can get crowded

The servers are stuck on themselves and the service is horrible. I had to wait forever for a Martini, at the bar, which was poorly made when I finally received it. Not to mention that the bartender was rude when I gave him a less than usual tip...take the hint.
Atmosphere was nothing special, been there done that.

LA type scence for those of you looking for that. If you are interested in waiting in line for cheesey men to hit on you, you'd found a new home.
