My girlfriend and I went to Guantanamera for our first time the other day and I was not impressed. Actually, I was outright upset when I left the restaurant.

First off- the entire menu is overpriced. Now, I'm OK with spending some extra dough for great food and service- but neither was offered here. The food that I ordered was mediocre, and there was a only a one-man staff responsible for being host, server and bartender to the entire restaurant.

Even this being the case, I would normally just eat up, pay for my meal and never come here again, end of story. But when I got the bill, I realized that I was being charged $8 per margarita- instead of the $3.50 that is clearly posted on a table flyer under "Monday Specials" (yes, it was Monday).

This margarita price was right underneath a food-for-two special, which we decided not to get. I asked the server about the $8 price- and he said in order to receive the Monday Special drink prices, we had to get the food special as well. When asked why it doesn't say this ANYWHERE on the special flyer, or why this was not brought to our attention in any way- the server responded "I'm Sorry".

The lack in quality of food, the steep prices, the bad service, and the misleading and downright sleazy happy hour scheme made my experience one for the books! I will never step foot inside this place again, and I wish you a better experience than I had- should you decide to.

I just had lunch here today, and I've never tasted such bad food. I have always enjoyed a dish called Vaca Frita. However their version of it looked like overheated- wiry -string shredded beef, and it tasted like it too.
All it had was some grilled onion, like that was suppose to make it better. By the second bite I was already tired of chewing, it was so hard and dry. My friend ordered chunks of pork....again, completely over dried. The only part of my plate I enjoyed was the 3 sweet plantains. I will NEVER go back here again. Not the friendliest either.

Kassava is an experience youll never forget! They have a variety of caribbean juices such as sorrel jice amd watermelon juice- which is excellent. I eat caribbean food all the time, and i am very critical.... Their oxtail ragu is out outrageous. Its located on w third street across the street from the hospital. Ive also tried wi jammin, it was good, but not excellent like kassava. I recommend everyone to try them! SERIOUSLY! i wont let you down!

I was here this past Sunday for my wife's birthday. Not a good experience. Only one waiter for several tables. The guy was trying, but eventually I felt ashamed of asking him for help. Then a girl came to help him, which I greatly appreciated. What a shame because I had been here before on a Saturday and had a great time with the music and the food.

I've never visited Cuba, but if this restaurant is indicative of it's delicious food, warm and receptive service and the general atmosphere, BOOK ME A FLIGHT TODAY! The entrance, with it's brass palm tree in front, is elegant, yet relaxed and inviting. My husband and I were greeted by a smiling, friendly hostess. The server was warm, prompt and cordial. My husband ordered the ropa vieja and I ordered the roasted chicken. Both dishes came with rice and beans and plantains. Everything was superb. (I overheard other patrons raving about the pork) Talk about a flavor explosion! We also had mojitos. Delicious! (We'll order a pitcher next time.) We topped it off with flan and cuban coffee. Needless to say, we were already planning the next time we're coming back as my husband and I rolled out of the restaurant.

This is a Great Hidden Spot in the San Fernando Valley! I have eatten at many Cuban restaurants and tried many different dishes. They have a great selection in their menu for people looking for Great tasting meals and family style treatment. Their Lechon Asado is delicious! They have these fried Yuca fries "Cuban style french fries" that are awesome. Dont forget the dipping sauce! Their Cuban Sandwich is above average! I have eatten here about 5 times and have left very statisfied everytime. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Good Cuban Food.

Guantanamera is the kind of restaurant that will have you going back again and again, whether for lunch, dinner, or just cocktails. Business lunches are always done well and the service will get you in and out as quickly or leisurely as you would like.

The food is excellent any time of day. My favorite is the pork with black beans and rice. Often, my wife and a group of friends will get together and make a Friday or Saturday evening of good food, good drink, good music and dance (I?m actually getting pretty good at Salsa ? with the help of one of the owners) and great friends. My wife almost always gets the shrimp (although she likes it all), our friend loves the garlic-roasted chicken with mojo, the paella is awesome, and the mojitos are best ever.

While the place has a hip up-beat feel, great live music and dancing on Friday and Saturday, there is an intimate feeling that all are welcome with a smile and warm handshake (maybe even a hug when they get to know you).

The food was amazing and so was the service. They make you feel like your part of the family. The staff was fun loving and energetic and the food was as closest to a home cooked meal!!!!! I would recommend this restaurant if your in the mood for a great time and delicous cuban cuisine.

I just had dinner with some friends on a very busy Saturday night, the food was delicious! I had the Chicken Breast (it was very juicy and full of flavor), my friends had the Palomilla Steak and Lechon Asado (pork) and they were very happy. The service was surprisingly fast and efficient and the MOJITOS were the best that I've had in LA. What impressed us the most was the atmosphere in this place, everyone seemed like they were having a great time. This restaurant is more than just about food. As for my friends and I, we will for sure come back again and again. Awesome place...............

I came back from Florida just itching for a great cuban restaurant in the valley. I looked up cuban on the internet and came across this place, which was very close to my home. I was quite excited to go. We ordered an appetizer that never came- Croquetas de Jamon (ham croquettes), and I didn't realize this until after we had our meals which were so awful, I couldn't bother with trying the appetizer. The server was more interested in his buddies working with him than his only two customers that night. I ordered Pierna Asada (pork marinated in cuban spices) and my boyfriend ordered the Bisteck de Palomilla (top sirloin with cuban seasonings). Both our meals were so garlic laden, we couldn't eat them, and we like garlic! I ordered a side of black beans which also took forever to come. Again, the flavor was off. Either Florida Cuban food is competely different than Los Angeles Cuban food, or this place was AWFUL. I haven't wanted Cuban since. It left a very bad taste in my mouth- and makes me sick just thinking about eating it.

Hey there folks--Just grabbed dinner with three friends on a Monday night. We were the only people in the joint and the waiter had really beedy eyes with a rotund belly under his black vest. The sangria was tasty as was the food. the ropa vieja is a bit better at versailles, but overall it ranks as one of the better Cuban joints around. I've been to most and I would feel pretty rightcheous recommending this to a stranger. Alrato agente

This little restaurants is one of our local favorites. We love the Cuban food (better than Versailles), and the funky, fun atmosphere. For many holidays there is live music. When you go on a crowded night, the small waitstaff can be a little overwhelmed, but our service has always been excellent nonetheless. They are helpful, charming, knowlegeable, and very kind, especially to our babies. The food is just delicous and worth going back for again and again, even if it is a little pricey for our budget. If you want local color and delicious food, don't pass up this great small restaurant.

I and my boyfriend came in, the lady had a very irritated and unfriendly expression on her face. We had to wait for 30 minutes for our food. The food is OK. If you need something, you need to wait forever for a waiter to come up to you. I tried saying "excuse me..", raised my hand, coughed, said umm-ummmm couple of times.
If I were to compare service at Denny's and at this place, I would go with Denny's.

Pros: you can find 2 for 1 coupon

Cons: very bad customer service; no ice in the water

.

The food was average tasting (nothing to write home about) for some reason we had the worst service from all food servers and table busers, the appetizers literally came 1 minute before our meal approx 30 minutes after we ordered them and our glasses of water ran empty and stayed that way until we left.
The Ropa viejo was a bit chewy and the picadillo habenera could be compared to the meat of a sloppy joe, I was tempted to ask for a whole bolio to create my own manwhich.

If you go to meet friends and have drinks at the bar - this would definitely be a 3rd or 4th option.

The minute you walk through the doors of this restaurant is like walking into Cuba, they have the frendliest staff I have ever seen. They are very knowlegeable about the menu since they are almost all cubans... down to their accent. The food is excelent, the best black beans I have had. I had the "fricase de pollo"... it was delicious. The prices are very good also. The band that was playing plus the hole atmosphere was making the hole evening seem like I had just traveled to Cuba. We are definitely going back.

Guantanamera restaurant is a little bite of cuba, the service is excellent is the only restaurant with a complete cuban service staff, the food is like homemade in pinar del rio, occidental province of Cuba and famous for the real cuban "sason" and is a very familiar ambience with the tradiotinal cuban music. In fact is the perfect place if you want to remember your birthplace or to increase your knowledge about the caribbean island

If you just want to grab a bite and like the ambience of this place then you probably won't care much about my complaints. Thing is, the food served is not very Cuban. They serve the pan con bistec (steak sandwich) with tomato and mayo! If getting some American regulars mixed in with the cuisine isn't enough to bug your purist-at-heart then brace yourself for this next one: they serve French bread instead of Cuban bread! I have not in my life seen even a run-down shack skip this Cuban staple.

We went on a Saturday night at 7PM, were promptly greeted with smiles, seated immediately, superb service, great menu and wonderful food. Highly recommend having a Mojito with appetizers, and a leisurely dinner. Wonderful live music did not overpower beginning 8:30PM. Roomy with lots of small tables that can be configured for large parties, + rounds for 3 or 4. Waiter's recommendations followed and we all enjoyed - super tastey, great prices, a most satisfying experience. We will definitely. A good place for a private party too in the adjacent banquet room. Though family owned Guantanamera has strip mall kind of location - it's warm, friendly place easy access from major streets, lots of free parking. Noted Cuban decent Los Angeles baseball stars gathered at a tall bar table - wow, even a "celebrity" siting! What a fun place for all ages.

We went on a weekend and had a wonderful experience. There was a great band tucked in the corner that really kept you moving in your seat. The food was great and the service was excellent. If I can take my friends out for an evening like this and not spend a fortune I know I've found the ideal situation. Perfect for large groups or anyone looking for a fun time!

I went to this small family-owned restaurant to celebrate my birthday and I had a very good time. The people are great and the food is excellent. I also recomment the mojito cubano because it is very good. It is a great restaurant for any kind of celebration and they would make their best efforts to make you feel right at home. I recommend everybody to go and enjoy the restaurant.
