I was having friends over from new york and I have a little car I needed a bigger car and my solution was At west rent a car, the process was easy and fast along with smooth(haha). We all had a great time and could drive where ever they wanted to go. Thank you at west!
I was very dubious after reading some negative reviews on Google, however my fears were unfounded. Although I had to wait for 30 minutes for someone to come to the office, that was partly because I was early picking up the car. It's a small business with few staff. The car had done 130k miles but drove exceptionally well. They waived the excess mileage fees when I returned the vehicle 250 miles over the limit.
There should be a no star rating as Atwest doesn't even deserve one.
I booked with Atwest online because they were inexpensive. It took an hour to be picked up at the airport that was only three minutes away from their 'office'. I received a lecture about how my phone must have been malfunctioning since he'd driven past three times. We are two very tall people with a baby in a stroller. This had been explained to the man after we followed his instructions to wait at the Departures level so he wouldn't have to pay to get us at the Arrivals level instead. Being the only ones waiting outside I find it difficult to believe that we had been missed twice.
We were parked on a back street and advised that we leave our luggage in the unmarked minivan we were picked up in. Of course we opted to keep our luggage with us at all times to which the attendant took offense. Inside we were told that the car we'd rented only had two doors...then when he brought it around, low and behold, the car had four again. The interior was filthy, sticky and threadbare. The outside of the car was questionable as well...dings, scratches and keyed scars. The mileage on the car was a whooping 110,000. As we left, we noticed our GPS was not charging, the cigarette lighter was not functioning as a means of power. The hood rattled at highway speed, the windshield wipers were broken, and we only had one headlight functioning.
We went about ten miles in the clunker then turned around and went to take it back to Atwest. There we received another lecture about how much luggage we had, (2 small carry-ons, a backpack and a stroller, in my opinion not bad for two adults traveling with a baby) how picky we were being about the (unsafe) car, how waiting over an hour for a pickup was a standard amount of time, and were then charged a $40 handling fee for the 20 miles we had driven. The real kicker was that after we had explained our worries about the car's safety, the man then turned to a pregnant customer who was waiting and offer the SAME car to her!
Needless to say, we will not be back. There is a certain level of professionalism I expect when traveling, sadly Atwest Rent A Car seems to have let that go the same way of their dirty, unsafe fleet. We were polite and felt our concerns were valid. I only wish we had been met with the same amount of courtesy.
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Unsafe car, rude service, lectures customers...
I rented a Mazda Miata for a day of driving around the Malibu canyon roads. The rental car was clean, ready and waiting for me. The office attendant helped me find a place to park my regular car in their garage and was helpful and friendly. The car itself performed very well. And the price was right, much lower than rentals of other "exotic cars" in that area. Overall I had a very good experience and look forward to doing it again when I am in the area.
Pros: Had car clean, ready
I rented for AtWest two weeks ago because it was the only place that would rent to me because of my age. First off it took about two weeks for them to confirm my reservation after leaving several messages and having no one return my calls. Secondly I left and iPod in the glove compartment, which I realize was my mistake. I realized it the same day I returned the car and call AtWest and spoke to an employee that said he would check the car and call me back. Five hours later and no returned call I called him again and was hung up on. Over the course of the next two weeks I called about seven different times and none of my calls were answered and I left four voicemails and never was my call returned. Not only were they rude when I finally got a hold of some one they yelled at me for my repeated phone calls. This company hires dishonest employees and I will never work with them again. I'd rather take the bus.
I made a reservation online with Atwest rental cars. When I got to the airport and called the agency someone on the phone told me that they did not have any cars left. I asked why I even made an online reservation?! They did not bother to hold a car for me and I was stuck at the airport trying to make immediate reservations with another agency. The price might be cheaper, but soo not worth it.
Pros: price
Cons: did not reserve my car for me
booked a car with Atwest in los angeles.
waited 40 minutes for them to pick me up at airport; had to call four times to get them to come get me.
then sat in the Atwest office for 30 more minutes while they tried to find a car for me.
they finally brought the old Corolla around and said "sorry, we don't have time to wash it". it was filthy inside and out, with food scattered all over the interior from the last renter, and gum on the seat.
I called the Atwest headquarters office in san diego and spoke to someone who identified himself as a manager. when I said that I expected a discount for getting a filthy car, he YELLED at me "THAT'S THE WAY OUR CARS ARE -- TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!".
I have never encountered a less professional, more poorly managed, worse quality company in the travel industry than Atwest.
pay a few bucks more and save yourself from having Atwest ruin your trip like they ruined mine.
Pros: none
Cons: filthy car, incredibly rude "manager", incompetent attendant, lots of time wasted
Although they seemed to offer me the best rate for a 2 month car rental, I strongly regret ever choosing this company. The rate was not in fact the cheapest available. They charged me fees that I was not told about in advance. From the beginning it was a bad experience. I waited over two hours at the airport for a free transfer to their location. The location itself was very sketchy. It appears that they only have one or two employees working at one time. The car I received was in very poor condition. I was ashamed to be driving this vehicle. In less than 2 weeks, it was evident that the transmission was in need of repair. The car shook violently in certain gears, and the gas mileage was horrid. I called At West rental several time a day for several days leaving many messages. When I finally reached a person, she guaranteed that my car would be picked up the next day. A week and a half later they came for my car. I was charged for those days during which my car and keys were in the possession of my apartment rental office as requested by At West. I strongly discourage anyone from ever renting from this company. I regret that I ever did. I was ripped off, yelled at, and treated with no respect. It should be called At Worst Rental.
Pros: No credit card required, rents to drivers under 21
Cons: Poor service, Cars in poor condition, Overcharged
