As a typical consumer, I've received my fair share of good and bad service. I've never written a public review about any business, however, I now feel strongly compelled to write a warning to others about my unequivocally deplorable and overwhelmingly BAD experience with Classic Property Management. In short if you read no further, understand that Classic has been the single worst business experience in the history of my life. Ever!

This is due to the fact that no single item you can purchase is as valuable/expensive as a house and to have your property treated so poorly is criminal.

As a homeowner who entrusted the care of one of my houses to Classic in order to put it up for rent (I own another house in a different state in which the property management is stellar) I've had nothing but horrible encounters with the company. To list a few examples without writing a novel (I am writing my novel of grievances to the BBB) see the following for complete facts, no embellishing:

- A woman named Debbie to put it mildly is simply the rudest, most abrasive and unpleasant person to deal with. Unfortunately Classic being a small office, we had to deal with her often. But don't expect any of your requests to be followed through or questions answered. Do expect a lot of attitude. And Andrew is useless as he knows nothing and does nothing except shirk any responsibilities and liabilities elsewhere.

- Don't expect any kind of background screening for prospective tenants. As an owner, we get no information about our tenants beyond their credit score. We allowed a tenant with low credit (mistake on our part) to rent our house because we were told he had fallen on bad times but had excellent references from previous landlords and more than enough verified income to cover rent. And we trusted Classic to vet out undesirable applicants through their "thorough background screening process." After the tenant paid rent for the first month, he simply quit paying for the following 3 months and refused to remove his belongings essentially becoming a squatter in our house. Through a long, lengthy, maddening process in which Classic did little to help or resolve the situation, we learned of the tenant's name, "Henning M." and within a 5 second Google check, discovered that our tenant/squatter Henning is one of Hollywood's biggest scam artists with NUMEROUS ripoff reports. It took me 5 seconds to Google him and learn this. How did Classic miss this if they did any kind of background check? Suffice it to say, that was a financially and emotionally draining period for us.

- Don't expect to receive your house or belongings in the same state as when you turn it over to Classic. First let's talk about cleanliness and repairs. I now have scuff marks, scratches, stains all over walls, baseboards, doors, banisters, fireplace, etc. (Our house was essentially brand new and shining when we turned it over to Classic. Being a new build with no pets or kids, we kept the house immaculately clean) Upon getting possesion of our house back, we are left with cobwebs, black grimy dirt lining window sills, dirty counter tops, mismatched paint colors to cover nail holes, etc. Grass? What grass? We left our house with an expansive green lawn with automatic sprinklers and even after hiring Classic's gardening services, we are left with a nice dirt yard overgrown with weeds.

And then there's the missing items that Classic will assume no responsibility for- we left a set of counter stools because a tenant requested use of them and they were still in the house after he moved out, but now miraculously they're gone. In addition there are missing curtains rods, missing washer/dryer pans that came with the house when it was built, missing cans of paint that the house builder provided. And to top it off, we left all our keys with Classic. The house is in a gated community with private access to a pool and other common areas that need a key for entry. We only recovered our actual house keys because Classic lost/mismanaged our other keys for the pool, gate, etc. Another fee that will come out of our pockets when we try to recover the keys through the HOA. Does Classic care?

- We hired Classic to RENT out our house. We never implied or stated we wanted to sell. However, without our consent they proceeded to share our private phone numbers to local real estate agents who barraged our phones about short selling our house. 1) We don't appreciate them sharing our private information with random people/companies. 2) It is insulting and annoying to get approached about short selling our house when we were not in a position to have to.

I warn you this is a fraction of what you will experience if you rent with Classic so unless you want to work with incompetent, unprofessional, apathetic people - AVOID!
They are the worst of the worst. They're criminals and should be held responsible for destruction of property and theft.

I'm still undecided about this company. We had an absolutely fantastic experience with the agent Andrew who showed us several properties. He was helpful, knowledgeable and very easy to work with. We saw over 20 properties on a whirlwind 2 day trip into SCV trying to find a place pretty quickly. We had other options but we really liked Andrews honesty and attitude. We found an older place that was a great price and Andrew made the lease signing very smooth and easy. The problem I have is that the lady in the office (Debbie?) is not very friendly. Now that we are in our place we have had several plumbing and air conditioning issues which is pretty typical for an older property that had not been lived in for a little while. We were never told the process for these issues so we called and emailed at first but didnt get a response so we kept calling. She seemed very irritated by us bothering her. I just don't understand that. If we have a leak at a property you manage why are you angry at us? When they air conditioning went on the fritz we called numerous times because we obviously can't live without it in the heat. Again she was very rude and made it clear she was unhappy. Maybe she is overworked maybe she just doesnt like us? Maybe she is friendly until you hand over your money? Who knows...it definitely worries me since we have to live in this place for at least a year and would prefer not to move for 2 years. I hope its a fluke. I do think that this company has the best prices and agents in SCV, I just hope our experiences with the office staff get better. I would love to give them 5 stars but I need to wait and see how it goes.
