I loved the room, very clean and modern! I also really liked the service and the entrance and lobby areas. The location is PRIME.
A few things I didn't like were the price of parking, as well as the pool area. It could definitely be a little more user friendly.

It's part of the Kimpton group, so you can count on a unique room product. The top floor is the pool, with a great view of the city. The rooms are fun and comfortable, and the location is great for the Gaslamp.

This is a great boutique like hotel with great service. The upper management is very hands on when you see them around and its a great hotel for conventions!

Hotel Solamar is a nice hotel located in downtown San Diego. The place is very modern and updated. The hotel itself is not as large as other hotels but the lobby is very clean and sleek. They offer happy hours to hotel guests. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms have very new appliances. The pool is clean and has cabanas as well as a pool bar. There is also a restaurant on site. Most places in downtown are within walkable distance and the staff here is very helpful. If you are looking for a reasonable place with the luxury of a higher class hotel, I would definitely stay here.

We had the opportunity to visit this hotel on a reward trip from my husband's work. It was a very unique, trendy, ultra modern hotel. It is located in the Gaslamp district of Downtown San Diego, so it is centrally located to lots of places to visit. Horton Plaza, The Convention Center, and the ballpark where the Padres play is within easy walking distance. You can also walk to the bay from there.
The hotel is newly refurbished and has very clean lined trendy decor. Very modern and non-traditional items. The rooms were a bit smaller than I like, but the beds and shower were very comfortable. This location has a great restaurant and a very popular roof-top bar that all the locals visit.
If you like to try new things, try this hotel out.
PROS: Fun and trendy
CONS: Not for the traditional type person.
