I expected a lot more and I should have read the reviews before going. The service was the worst ever and it seems that they don't train their staff to be polite and courteous when serving the diners. They lack business morals and really don't care about customer satisfaction. They took forever to take our order and I think they have issues against people that are not caucasian from what I saw at the other table. Don't support these people and their lack of tolerance towards others.

Pros: None

Cons: Bad service and long wait for order

I came with a group for a birthday dinner. It was miserable. The drinks were tasty, though our appetizers were slow to come out. Our entrees took FOREVER to come out, either because the whole table needed to be served at the same time and they couldn't figure out the timing or they just figured that since there was a mandatory tip they didn't need to really wait on the table. Our waiter disappeared frequently and left us high and dry without a word on why there was a delay. Once the food did start to arrive at the table, some plates were cold while others were too hot. The waiter couldn't be bothered to come and bring me my dish, he simply reached over from the other side. It was a miserable dinner that I never want to repeat. I was better off somewhere else down the pier.

I don't usually eat lamb, but upon dining at this place, my bf ordered lamb. I tried it and to my surprise, it was delicious! No after taste like other lamb I've tasted in the past. All of the dishes our group ordered were far from disappointing. Sometimes on weekends after 10pm, this place becomes a club. So if you don't want the club crowd to invade your romantic dinner, make a reservation early enough so you'll be done by the time they start lining up outside.

This restaurant really does exude class and elegance which you unfortunately can't tell from the outside. Inside, Crossing The Bar has an upscale decor. We had a really enjoyable time last Saturday. The waiter was very friendly but not annoyingly friendly. We got a really nice table. The food came out relatively quickly and tasted great. I am coming back again.

Pros: classy and elegant with a lot of parking

A group of us went to Crossing The Bar after work for a drink during their Happy Hour. They have a very innovative Drink Specials Menu with interesting spinoffs of the more famous and traditional drinks. Their Baba's Blue Cosmo is a must as well as their Death By Chocolate Martini. They have a really cool looking glass top bar with little TV screens built into the bar top itself. This is a great place to hang out and a good opportunity to try out their different drinks.

Pros: Great Drink Specials

.

There are many good aspects to this restaurant ranging from impressive decor, good food, great drink specials but I'd like to especially focus on their service which is where many restaurants fall short on. I came with a group of 16 and our table was ready and waiting for us along with menu's, water and very clean silverware and glassware on the table. The food came out very quickly and we had a waiter just for our table and boy did he give us such special attention that we all felt at home very quickly. He was knowedgeable with the wines and made great suggestions.

I heard about this place but since I am not into Indian food I never though twice about visiting until I read a very positive review in a newspaper recently. When I went there I was very pleasantly surprized. They have a great variety of appetizers and entrees ranging from crab crepes, sizzling fish and vegetarian dishes, rack of lamb, filet mignon along with chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes. The taste was incredible, not spicy at all, but they said they can make certain dishes more spicy as required. This is not one of those places where the servers are eager for you to finish so that they can seat the next person at your table and get more tips. This is one of those places you can relax and not have the fear of a server's elbow bumping into your face as they rush past. All in all we had a fabulous experience.

Pros: Incredible food, plenty of parking

This restaurant would be in my personal Top 10 of Favorite Restaurants of San Francisco. I have dined at many restaurants and each one has their own characteristics. This restaurant is not too large and not too small. It is divided into three areas where you can have a quiet, romantic dinner and in other areas it is good for larger groups. I loved their attention to detail in many areas ranging from food decoration, attentive service and very helpful staff. I ordered the sizzling fish and the aroma's that this dish gave out while it was being brought to my table I could see other people turning their heads to see what dish this was. My partner ordered their steak and both our meals were cooked to prefection. I will definitely be going back again.

I went to Crossing The Bar yesterday with a large group of 18 people and we had a really great time. The server was very friendly and helpful in selecting the appropriate wines, the food came out very quickly and the atmosphere was very nice. This is not the first time that I have visited this restaurant. Every time I dined here the food and service was consistently very good.

Please do not dine here! The service is the worst ever! What made it worse is that the service...it's unreal. The food is not worth eating, you'll need to go somewhere else after to fill up. The service is so horrible - I actually wanted to cry! I have never been treated the way this place treated us, and when I wanted to complain, they had the nerve to tell me that all upscale restaurants are like them - as if I don't go to any nice restaurants in SF! What? Was I being insulted? It's unacceptable! They are more interested in being a club then a restaurant and with the food being terrible, they might have a better chance as a club, so who can blame them. Go to anywhere else, there are plenty of other places to eat around there.

I wasted time and money at this overpriced and boring restaurant. Read the other reviews yourself and make the call. The food was bland and anything but good. The service was the worst I've come accross in years! They were rude, un-accommodating and they are more interested in being a club then a restaurant. Please do not waste your money here. I went on a Saturday night and every other dining place seemed busy except this one, it makes you wonder.

Save your time and efforts and go somewhere else, this place will ruin your night!

There are many fine restaurants in San Francisco, Crossing The Bar is not one of them, far from it. Cross the road and go elsewhere, anywhere. The food is bad. The service is worse. Save your money but don't save your appetite to come here.

If you are looking for good food, do not go here! If you are looking for a stylish place with decor and service, stay away! The food is overpriced and bland, $8 for a few samosa's and that's just for starters...literally! The service was terrible, they have zero customer care and do not honor reservations. The workers were rude and unprofessional. Read the other reviews and see for yourself. This place is a waste of time, money and energy. We went there on a Saturday night and the place was dead, which seemed strange, since all the place next door and accross the street were packed. Do yourself a favor and save your money and go to anywhere else instead. What a waste of time and a wasted Saturday night.

For starters this place looks better than the picture shown in citysearch. First of all they have tablecloths on the tables and they must have changed the colors as they have more walmer colors than is seen in the picture. Must be an old picture. The service was good, all courses came out on time. The food was great especially the rack of lamb which was exceptional. The atmosphere was right on, not too loud and a good place to go for a special romantic dinner. They seem to have separate areas for larger groups. They did not have valet parking on the night we went though there's a big parking lot round the back of the restaurant.

Having dined at many restaurants this was an absolute treat. Our experience was wonderful. We can certainly see as to what all the hoop-la was all about among locals. We couldn't have asked for better service along with the great food and ambience the crab crepes was incredible and our entree's were cooked to perfection. I would highly suggest the Rack of Lamb. For dessert the Chocolate Caramel Pyramid was out of this world and it looked great in the shape of a pyramid. It was finally nice to see a service staff who was down to earth, knowledgeable and not pretentious as we've seen in many restaurant's.

Some of my work colleagues and I decided to meet there for some drinks after work and we ended up having dinner. I really loved their Chocolate Martini which was recommended by the bartender. Also, our waiter spent time explaining the different dishes and which wines would best go with them. Even though some upscale restaurants could be intimidating at times this restaurant is not one of those as the service made all the difference . We will definitely come back again.

We went down to Crossing The Bar on Valentines Day hoping for a wonderful experience on this special day. I was impressed. We were seated quickly. They had a saxaphone player playing live romantic tunes. The ambience was great, not too noisy and the mood was ideal for a romantic dinner. The cocktails we ordered came pretty quickly as did the first of the four courses. The other courses came out a little longer than expected but with the place being packed we overlooked this once the food came out. The rack of lamb and grilled tuna were fantastic. the pricing was very reasonable for this upscale joint. The waitress was very polite. I would highly recommend this fusion restaurant to anyone.

I went to Crossing The Bar last night with my wife which was a Thursday evening. Although the place was not busy we had a superb time. We were celebrating my wife's birthday in a quiet manner. We were given a surprise dessert on the house which was very touching. The food tasted great. We had steak and the sizzling paneer tikka which was quite fantastic with the aroma's being given off. We will definitely go back to Crossing The Bar again.

With MUCH regret I made reservations here for a special V-day. I did not check here first and I am kicking myself! The place was full but in no way crowded. When we sat down I noticed 2 tables were sending there food back. We should have gotten up and ran while we had a chance. We waited 30 mins for ceasar salad. The worst I have ever had. Another 45 mins for dinner. When we left we also went to Houstons and saw 2 other coulpes there, also very dissapointed. PLEASE, PLEASE don't wast your time and $ here. By far the worst rest in San Francisco.

After reading the February 2006 Sunset Magazine's review on Crossing The Bar I was excited to try out this place with my fiance. We were seated promptly. As this cusine was new to us the server was very helpful in which wines went well with which dishes. The cocktails drink specials were very innovative. We tried the Baba's Blue Cosmo and the Death By Chocolate Martini. The food came out in a timely manner and tasted great. We went for the Sizzling Mahi Mahi and the and the Madras Rack of Lamb. The service was excellent. There was no valet parking but there is a big parking lot behind the restaurant.

This was one of the most horrible dinners I have had in a long time. Some of the items sounded good but werent that great, in fact, not even close. The taste reminded me of something my Mom would make and my Mom can't even really cook. The dishes were made with inferior ingredients and were not prepared well. (The desert had decorative chocolate swirls made with Hersheys syrup!) I know the difference between good food and great food. This food wasn't even good!!! At the end of the night the bill came out to $70 each... I was so disappointed. BTW, my friend and I were the ONLY people dining in the restaurant during dinner hours on a Thursday (a huge dinner night). All I have to say is that I had dinner at many far, far superior restaurants for just slightly more. Don't waste your time!

i was in a hurry to find something and didnt read the reviews. they are ALL true (except that good one which was probably written by the owner). This place is no better than the worst off highway 24 hour diner you've ever been to. and it was $80 for two of us to eat horrible food. Somehow they managed to give ALL of the food a dry, yet oily taste at the same time. the stick of rosemary sticking out of the blob of overcooked rice on our 20 cent plates was pathetic as well. do yourself a favor and go.... just about ANYWHERE else.

The appearance of this restaurant was good. However, I was somewhat suspicoius when I walked in at around 8PM on a Saturday night to see that more than half the place was empty. Our waiter couldn't get our drink orders right, and then couldn't remember our entre orders. We had to repeat and clarify several times. When I asked what beers they had on tap, he replied with "nothing." I then had to ask what they did have.

When the food came out, I wasn't impressed with the presentation. For the price, I was expecting a bit more. The food was not hot, but warm, and perhaps this contributed to the mediocre-at-best taste. As we were finishing up our meal, DJ's were setting up the dance area. They were doing sound checks with bass blaring as we were finishing.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for any occasion.

I couldn't agree with the other reviews any more where the place was the worst experience that I've ever encountered. The service was horrible to the point where I'd rather be served by a BUM! The manager was so unaccomodating whether I think he should be FIRED! My recommendations, go to In & Out down the block, you'll get better service and food!!!

We had a party of 28, arrived at 7:30PM, no one took our order till 9:00PM. We only received 4 appetizers. The wait staff never approach us. We had to go to them. They kept saying our food was coming. At around 10PM and still only have received 4 appetizers, we were told that they overbooked and did not have enough food. The GM wanted to put the blame on the wait staff when we asked the GM. "They were almost ready with the food." I went by the kitchen, and there was obsolutely NO food ready. The night was totally ruined for us! I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Even if you go there in a smaller party, check the other reviews. This restaurant is HORRIBLE!

With reservations our party did not get seated til about 30 mins after we arrived, For such a nice lookin' restaurant you would expect a whole lot better. We waited about 40 mins after we were seated till the server came around and took our order. After about an hour and a half the server comes around to let us know that the kitchen is behind and could not take on all the reservations for that night and therefore did not know have an approximate time til our food would be ready and suggested that we find dinner else where. This event was a friends birthday and we couldn't have been more disappointed. We ended up going to Houston's across the street at 11:00pm. I would never recommend anybody to try this restaurant....it's a mistake and I wonder how much longer they will stay in business. Don't waste your time!!!!

Cons: no service, no food, no experience

.

The service here is very awful. There was a group of 8 of us, and it took 40 mins to get only half of our appetizers. The only half never came. After waiting another 70-80 mins to get our main course, the waitress told us the kitchen was not uble to fulfill our order and asked if we still wanted our food. After talking to the manager is wasn't any help at all we all decided to leave. So please don't eat here

This would be the first time I have waited 30 mins before anyone came to ask us for our drinks or appetizers. The service is very bad. By the time we finished eating, it had been 3 hours, and we didn't even have dessert or any drinks. I would not recommend this restaurant.

While the restaurant next door, Butterfly, was bustling with diners, I can see now why the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived on a Saturday night. Our party of 10 was seated for 10 mins before the waiter came by to take order for drinks. The waiter acted annoyed when we asked him to speak up.

We waited another 10 mins for the waiter to take our orders and another 45 mins after our appetizers for our main courses. And not once did the waiter give us an update on the delay. The horrible service combined with the long wait was made worse by the arrival of main dishes. Half of the dishes were lukewarm. Ironically, for the only dish what was hot, one of our dinner guests burned her fingers when the waiter was unwilling to come around the table and set the plate in front of her.

Pros: None

Cons: Horrible service, Lack of parking

What a disappointment. The food is nothing special. The Ceasar was the most boring salad I've ever had, my prawns were completely overcooked, and the portion sizes were tiny. The service was slow and unfriendly, and I was told that there wasn't even a manager around to complain to. We went on a Saturday night and were the only dinner party in the entire place. Oh, and the muzak they had playing in the restaurant was the worst I've ever heard.

Pros: Location

Cons: Poor Service, Mediocre Food

Have you noticed that almost every positive review for this place is from a user that hasn't reviewed ANY other restaurants except this one? hmmmm.... is it possible they are from a fictitious user??? odds are pretty high, my friends.

Although the menu descriptions sounded very lovely, the food and flavors were generic, bland and unimaginitive. There is a reason why we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant from 7pm to 9pm on a Thursday night. It is a shame that their execution on the food front is so terrible, because the location is great, decor is fun and menu *sounds* promising. We were seriously disappointed with everything that we ordered - the fast food indian joints have more pizzazz than what we were served.

we went here with lots of expectations but were quite dissapointed. although the place itself is nice, the food was not. specifically, while the flavors were good, the meat used in the food did not taste fresh. also, the place was completely empty (it was a week night). overall, not a good value.

We reserved a party of 22 at Crossing The Bar. As we waited for by the bar for our party to arrive I must say that the bartenders were very friendly and approachable and the cocktail menu was very innovative. When all of our party arrived we were shown to our table immediately and the service was great - very quick, professional and friendly. We had a waterfront view. The servers were very knowledgeable in the food menu as well as with the wines. The decor of the restaurant is very beautiful and will impress anyone who dines here. I hadn't tasted food so good in a long time. There is a lot parking available as well. Highly recommended !!!

Beautiful space! fantastic food! VERY reasonably priced! but... where are the people??? We could not believe that we were the only ones in the entire restaurant dining! It would be a shame if Crossing the Bar went out of business due to lack of customers. If you live in SF or are visting, I highly reccommend eating here! For those of you worried that the food may be too spicy, it isn't. It is perfect!!!
