This place has a great 7 day happy hour with lots of different drink and food specials. The house margaritas are only $3. It is also one of the only bars that will serve real absinthe! Which is a must try! So head on over, drink up the green fairy and be entertained by the traveling cowboys that roam these parts!

I have dined at Jolly Boy at dinner with adult friends and at lunch with my family. Both experiences were very good. Enjoyed the food. Guacomole was fresh and handmade, but needed a bit of salt. Better than too salty! We had a nice view of the Old Town San Diego state park from the patio tables. There were a lot of historical characters walking about that my kids could interact with (and me too) and that was part of the fun.

When the adults were there, we tried absinthe which is licoricey and green. Mine was a martini style cocktail and I enjoyed it. The absinthe fit in with the restaurant's historical character. And they serve it from an absinthe fountain that is quite cool and different. If you sit at the bar, that's definitely the thing to drink. But if you're sitting outside on the patio, under the bougainvillea, I could definitely see enjoying some margaritas!

Pros: Free parking, good people watching, historical ambiance, unique food and drink

Cons: Tourist area, a long walk from parking lot

I took family visiting from out of town to Jolly Boy recently and had a great experience. The staff was super friendly, we relaxed in the open bar area and ate our dinners outside. I would recommend this if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a great margarita or as a relaxing place to take out of town guests.
