i was a previous student at this location for quite some time. these "ernie reyes west coast" schools are individually owned but affiliated with ernie reyes main studio in the bay area. the workout can be decent (yes, you will sweat) and there is some mediocre self defense being taught. what really pissed me off was the head instructor of the studio, who's only real goal is to pull in money rather than teach. yes, i know that this is a business, but when you disrespect your students and are more concerned about scamming how much money you can bleed from them, its definitely time to move on. this head instructor is a real joke of a character: he will belittle you and make you feel as if his business and studio are more important than anything else in your life. he will tantrum and pout like a 2year old when he doesnt get his way, and will call you a "quitter" when he has nothing else to say. once, he called me in the middle of work, and expected me to leave my work and come in to teach the evening classes... unpaid. wtf?! who the hell does he really think he is? ive heard so many stories about him, but held my judgement until i saw his bullcrap unfold around me, and then to me. i spoke to a student who suffered an injury while grappling with him; his response? -"dont be a baby!" ive heard other stories from other female students that he has made them feel uncomfortable or "grazed them" inappropriately. he often plays favorites, and this is apparent if you attend his classes. my god, the more i think about this sleazy guy the more disgusted i get.
i dont have have much against ernie reyes, he seems to be a cool kat... but this particular instructor teaching at this studio is a pain in the ass to deal with. stay away from him, and check out the other martial art studios in stockton instead, or if need be, go to the other west coast affiliate schools in modesto, sac area, or bay area. avoid this joke of a studio at all costs!
