I was very disappointed in Bliss World at the W Hotel. I have been to several spas in SF and really enjoy the experience. I enjoy soaking the tubs, steaming in the steam rooms, hanging out in the common areas, and mostly I enjoy feeling relaxed and luxurious. Unfortunately Bliss World offered none of these things. There is no hot tub, no steam sauna, no dry sauna, and definitely no relaxation or luxury. The locker area is tiny. There is virtually no vanity area. The common area is cramped and bare bones. The entire place with the exception of the treatment rooms is brightly lit. I never knew I could feel comfortable in a spa but I did there. It's like the McDonald's of spas. They want you to get in and get out. No lingering. Apparently that is actually part of their business plan. It's a NYC philosophy of spas. Had I known that I would never had visited. The price is higher than much better spas in the city. The massage I had was excellent but that's all I can say. I recommend trying Burke Williams spa in the Westfield center if you want a nice experience. It's pricey too but actually less so than Bliss World and much more comfortable.

Pros: good massage, good location

Cons: uncomfortable, spare, pricey

I arrived for my waxing appointment having been shopping. When I checked in, I wasn't offered a locker so I asked if I could have one. They guy at the desk said, no, lockers are only for customers who need to change into a robe. Then the guy said, "Do you need the restroom?" I said yes, to which he bizarrely responded "Oh, good!"

I finished up in there, and was waiting in the lobby, completely ignored by the staff. Everyone else there, including two people who had no services but were just waiting for friends, had a cup of tea or a bottle of water.

Finally, fifteen minutes after my appointment was supposed to have started, I walked up to the desk and asked the gal there if she know how late they were running. Her response was, "Yeah, we had a problem with the schedule. Yeah, we're late." No apology, no actual time estimate.

A few minutes later I walked back up and said that I had a flight to catch that evening and things to do and that I needed to know how much longer they'd be. She responded with, "Well, I don't know. Probably soon." Still no apology or anything.

At that point, I was fed up. I told her I was leaving, and that I expected not to be charged as a no show. She said, "Well, sure. You were here. I guess you'll hear from the manager." A week later, and having emailed customer service (since I couldn't get a phone number), I've heard nothing back. I'm also having my credit card company fight the charge, since I was in fact charged for the appointment.

Pros: great products - buy them elsewhere though

Cons: terrible customer service

I came here with excitement and high expectations and left feeling very disappointed. The treatments were very cleverly named and the facility is nice, but it just felt too corporate for me. Over the years of bliss getting so big and well known they've lost their need or care to make the customer feel special and appreciated which is a plus of a spa day for me. I don't have anything to complain about treatment wise per say, but nothing to rave about either. the whole day was just lack-luster. Doubt I will be returning to this location.

My first visit to Bliss...I had a massage with Irene, and it was honestly one of the better massages I have had...a good massage depends so much on the practitioner, no matter how many amenities the locker room has, or what kind of cheese they have in the waiting area.

She was very intuitive - my muscles needed a little special work, and she zoned right in on what I needed. She has a very refined and deliberate style - I didn't feel rushed at all.

Didn't feel pressure to upgrade - the extras were just offered - and I know that is what they are required to do - everyone gets more money when they upsell, and I really do want to know what my options are...

The parafin foot pack is nice, nothing to write home about

The spa itself is very nice...I really like that the locker room had all sorts of stuff, and the steam shower is really a cool perk.

The front desk staff was nice - and even though the gal was on the phone when I got there, she acknowledged me right away (I hate it when they don't) and gave me a clear tour of the place, and told me clearly what I was supposed to do and where to do it.

They have put so much attention into the services, the waiting area, and the locker...but (I know this is nit-picky) the hallways and floors look like a hospital...despite the hip floral arrangements - when I got off the elevator, I thought I was on a maintenance floor.

I guess my point is - that the overall experience is pretty good - but I definitely noticed that someone forgot about making it continuous - maybe a coat of warm paint....soft lighting, bamboo flooring?

I've been to several Bliss Spas in NY and to the SF spa once. I love their products, I've just never been impressed by the spas. Their facial treatments are fine, nothing special and while the techs seem to be trained in the Bliss way, they don't seem to be very experienced overall.

The chairs they make you sit in for nail services are HORRIBLE! I seriously couldn't wait for the treatment to end. Not only is the chair uncomfortable, you get treated to a half hour of isometric exercises trying to keep your foot up on a flimsy stool while the tech works on it. It might look chic and clean, but it's just uncomfortable. To top it off, the polish started peeling off my $90 pedicure after 1 day.

There are too many other good spas/manicurists out there to waste your money here.

Stick to buying their products in Sephora. Bliss is a pretty spa, but over priced and seem bored and have a lack of care about their treatments. I like their products but will go elsewhere for services.

I have been going to a spa near Union Sq. for quite some time for services but decided to try out Bliss after a recent trip to New York. (Bliss is everywhere in that city) ALthough the brand is marketed well and the packaging is cute, the spa experience was less than enjoyable to say the least. I booked an oxygen facial and a Hot cream mani. When I arrived I was surprised to find how LOUD the lobby music was. Sort of like a Techno kind of music and I found the facility to be sterile and not very inviting. The staff at the desk never said, "hello", while talking with me never even made eye contact and overall were not friendly. I felt as if I were "putting them out" by having them tell me where the locker room was. The oxygen mask during the facial was a new spin on the steam I usually get but the application of products and massage made the whole thing seem forced and rushed. I got my mani and it was fine, nothing special. The polish did last almost two weeks however I don't attribute that to the technician. What I do attribute to the technician is the deep cut under one of my fingernails and peeling around my cuticles that started two days after I got the mani. The spa snacks in the lounge room were not refreshed by the time I got to the room and looked well-picked thru and not appetizing. Overall,I wish this place was worth the money I spent. I would classify this as a waste of my hard earned money and cannot bare to chance the next experience being equally or even remotely as bad. I will not go back and do not reccomend this spa. I'll head back to my spa spot on Sutter and pretend like Bliss never happened.

Pros: The products make great gifts

Cons: There isn't enough space

I visited because I like spas and this one has a lot of hype, but I think I must be too old or something. Unlike a previous reviewer who mentioned that the music wasn't wasn't working the day she was there I found that the music was working entirely too well during my visit. So well that possibly the previous mentioned instance might have been sabotage :)

Anyway, perhaps the best description of my visit is to say that apparently it isn't only the manicure tools that are on a conveyor belt....

Now admittedly I did visit because of the "buzz" surrounding this spa, and I'd have to say that I'm probably not the demographic that they are aiming at. (I'm definitely a little too old, and definitely from the wrong zip code, so your perecption of your experience might be entirely different than mine ... a sort of reverse twist on "caveat emptor."

The entire enviroment, while hip, is too sterile for my taste (I like a spa to be welcoming and have some humanity to it!) and the entire experience too rushed. True there are a ton of products to try, and I guess the brownies are OK, but the whole zen-like spa thing that I'd expect from a spa called "bliss" is entirely missing - it's not there when you walk in (quite the opposite) it's not there in the locker rooms, or the waiting area, and, sadly it wasn't there during my massage either.

Pros: Clean

I LOVE bliss and you'll love it too if you like products! I have been twice. The first was for a facial which was good, not great. They didn't incorporate much massage into it which was a bummer. Plus, the radio wasnt working that afternoon so there was no music.
The second time I went for a massage which was AMAZING!!
The best part about the bliss experience= the brownies that are in the "rest room." I could go back just for those alone. They are to die for.

They use a special wax and my brazilian was almost painless! I couldn't believe it! In fact, it was such a pleasant surprise compared to how dreaded and tense I usually get before a brazilian, the waxer actually told me that I looked very relaxed. -Because I was!

Facial was great as well. They use an oxygen mask instead of a steamer, which was also a welcome switch from the norm.

Read that this was the best oxygen facial in the Bay Area, so a girlfriend and I were excited to give it a try. The facial wasnt bad, but like the overall experience it was kind of mediocre. We were both taken at the same time, and while my facial lasted slightly longer than my friends, both of us were out in well under eighty minutes, which is a little irritating since the treatment is listed for ninety minutes. Turns out that was a "misprint" its supposed to be eighty five minutes, but it wasnt even close to that. If the facial was fantastic it might not have been a big deal, but the whole experience outside of the room was as if nobody really cared. This feeling was confirmed when we asked about the time differential at the desk and we were told that they need time to take a break and get the room ready for their next client. Oh, thats nice.

the pedicures here are what keeps me coming back! you get headphones to watch television, bottled water, little snacks, and the girl WORKS! i've never gotten such callus removal anywhere else. the polish always lasts longer than two weeks...often even a month for me.
the facials are pretty good, but the only wierd thing that i found was once i used a tissue to wipe off a little of the shine before leaving and i wiped off some sort of foundation that had been applied at some point! (i went with a totally clean face and don't even use foundation). is this some sort of gimmick?

I have gone to numerous spas in SF looking for the perfect facial, and so far this is the closest. The products are all top-quality, and they are very thorough. The facialist never leaves the room, so while various masks are dying, you are treated to a foot rub or scalp massage. And the lounge is lovely-- little cucumber sandwiches, sweets, and once, glasses of wine! The only downsides are the attempts to up-sell and the price. But this is a worthwhile treat every now and then!

I went there last time for basic pedicure. It come out ok but for this price, I certainly want something more. The staff are not too nice. However, I believe that we would get better service if we get there for body treatments.

I've gone to bliss to get my eyebrows done and for a massage (done at different times). Both treatments were performed expertly. Highly recommend. The rooms are a bit sterile, for eyebrows not a big deal but for massage I wish it had been cozier. But the quality of the massage more than made up for it. Ask for Gailee for wax and Angel for massage. don't valet park, it's very expeinsive, cheaper lots are in the neighborhood. Treat yourself to a shower afterwards, it's incredible. Front desk staff are also very, very nice.

I had read all the reviews about the bliss spa and was a little apprehensive to try their services, but was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. My skin felt great after the triple oxygen and loved all of the massage included(face, neck, arms and feet! Maybe they just had to work out all of the kinks, I know they opened less than a year ago and it seems like the spa runs very smoothly now. I also loved the clean minimalistic interior, staff was friendly, and their products are the best around.

Don't expect to relax when you vist Bliss. I love bliss products but the spa experience was not worth it, and it did not live up the the hype of citysearch's review.

Firstly, the music is blaring, up-tempo and techno at times. When I'm getting a facial and I'm trying to relax, I don't want to hear The Beatles. (All of my friends have complained about the music.)
Second, I went in for a micro-dermabrasion facial and the esthetician did it wrong, held it on my nose too long and I was left with a BIG SORE on my nose for a week!

Don't go to bliss if your goal is to "get away from it all."

Beautiful Spa! Ana is the best facialist I've had in this city. She took time to explain everything to me, did not push "add-ons" or products on me at all. Even the extraction process was quasi-pleasant :)
Space is a little small and the steam room is actually in the shower stall which was odd. Staff was pleasant and they had yummy snacks in the lounge area.

I can honestly say that it is was one of the worst spa experiences of my life. The salon is so stark and sterile (hospital-like halls and swinging doors). And the massage (and I use the term lightly) was very very disappointing. Before the masseuse (and I use that term lightly as well) even began, she tried three times to get me to upgrade. When she said she was finished, I was quite surprised considering she had forgotten to massage the tops of my legs, my feet, one hand and my head. And I hated the soft rock and roll that was piped in--not relaxing music at all. While waiting for my massage, I found it odd that they served olives and brownies instead of the expected light spa fare. To their credit, I was given a gift certificate to come back, but I doubt I will.

First, I did not like the white formica space aged laboratory feeling. I got the new Plum Plum pedicure for $70 and the Hot Cream Manicure for $25. Definitely not worth the money. The chairs were flimsy and uncomfortable. The worst part was that I had to rest my foot on the manicurist's knee. I was so uncomfortable; my legs started to cramp up and my back started to hurt. The foot and hand massage was really short and pretty forgettable. All in all, not worth the $100+. I recommend going to Silks and Zaza where you can get a really solid mani/pedi and amazing foot and hand massage for half the price all while lounging on a soft comfy recliner.

I have been to Bliss SF so many times I have lost count. Every now and then I would try another spa (Kabuki Springs, Claremont Resort, Relax Now) and I wonder why I try to leave Bliss. No doubt Bliss disappointed some, but it really depends on which therapist you get. If you have serious kneading to be done, ask for Brian or Frances or Danielle. I've had therapists who were mediocre there, but these three are stellar. Traffic is light at 9 AM on Saturdays, or weekdays - it gets crazy at peak hours and that seriously dilutes your experience. My only complaint is that the food offerings aren't very exciting (cucumber and brownies? it gets old).

I was there in June., I spent a large amount of $. The front desk was rude and they didn't realize that serveral of us heard them gossiping about clients and each other. I heard one red-headed girl look at a form that a client had filled out and snickered...and pulled another girl aside to her and laughed. HOW RUDE AND INAPPROPIRATE!!

SF Bliss needs a makeover starting with management. Who hire's these people but unqualified people or people with no real idea of what a spa is supposed to be. Go see:

Massage: Frances, Jeremy, Lori (visit them reg.)
Facials: Ana, Gailee, Kim & Nana
Nails: There all good!
FD: Good Luck..... the times I have been there only four ladies come to mind, who where actually nice. Diane, Neilly, Edith & Bobbie...(names might be off)

I booked my appointment a day before and was totally looking forward to receiving my massage at Bliss. I have been a big fan of their products and constantly read about their great reputation. I guess I was expecting way too much. When I got to the spa, it looked pretty bare and "hospital" like. The locker room area is ok, and they do have steam and sauna, but it takes a while for those rooms to really heat up. I must've sat in the steam room for a half an hour and was still cold. The worst part was the massage. My therapist wasn't very professional and I didn't feel very relaxed at all. The best part of the spa is the attendants, they were very nice and friendly. I don't plan on coming back and definitely don't recommend this place.

At Bliss Spa, I got a double chocolate pedicure and a hot cream manicure and it was heavenly. The nail technician that did my manicure and pedicure was outstanding. She knew how to shape my nails and she also gave me tips on how to take care of my nails. She also gave me a nice hand and feet massage using their Bliss products. The nail technician also showed me which products are good to use and I bought several of them. I would say that this is the best place to have a manicure and pedicure. They care alot for their clients because they use excellent sanitizing practices. I highly recommend going to Bliss Spa for a manicure or pedicure. If you go to Bliss Spa in San Francisco, I recommend Zen to be your nail technician. She is highly experienced and the best manicurist I have ever visited.

Pros: Very Modern, Bliss Products, Atmosphere

I had the greatest experience there. I had a full day of "Bliss" From head to toe. All of the technicians were prompt, very knowledgable, friendly, and just flat out good. I've already made return appointments. And let me just say I had the most painless Brazilian ever!!!

After reading some of the reviews about this place I was worried about getting a facial but my friend swears by it. Upon arriving, front desk was friendly but not overly annoying and fake. I was really turned off by the hospital like corridor but was completely turned around once I met my esthetician! She was warm, caring, wasn't pushing at all, and helped me customize my facial to meet my skincare needs. I don't look for phoofy, zen like places, where I feel all i get is a bunch of balm massaged on my face. I want results. And my skin was glowing after my facial. I highly recommend the basic facial and let your esthetician create a facial for you--many options from different peels/masks, micro to oxygen blasts. I got micro and i wasn't red or irritated as I have been in the past.

I have to say that I was thrilled to see Bliss live up to its reputation! I've been a long time devotee of the Bliss products and am psyched to have one of their spas on this coast! I went for a Triple Oxygen Facial and came out with the best looking skin! Not only that, but my skin seemed to look even better a few days later! I returned with some of my girlfriends and it was still the same amazing experience. The brownies, wine and super cool atmosphere were such a treat! The front desk staff really made us feel like we were the most important people in the spa. I'm now addicted to the Triple Oxygen and am doing the facial regularly as I get closer to the wedding. If you're looking for something hip, fun and effective... go to Bliss!

I booked this spa because of the reputation of the New York salon. This one does not measure up. I booked 3 mani/peds and an eyebrow wax to follow after the pedicures. My confirmation said 4:30 for the brow wax and I sat around for 15 minutes wondering why no one had come to get me. The girl at the desk said we had you down for 4:00. The people at the front desk were not friendly and the mani/pedis were awful. The shaping was terrible and the skin around my cuticles have been peeling. They served stale crackers and dried out cheese. The only nice thing were the tv's but that is not the reason I go to a spa. Skip this place not worth the money.

I know good facials and this was not one! I had my eyebrows waxed first, great job! I then had a pedicure,it lasted 1/2 the time it should have. Then I had an oxygen facial. I was so mad. The facial, priced at 150 was awful. I know what extractions are and they hurt, but when my facialist did them she mearly scraped a tool on my face, no blackheads were removed, no nothing, they were not even extractions. The facial was nothing fancy or anything to brag about. Rooms are so noisy. Save your money this place is all talk. I have though continued to get my brows waxed here, but when i went last time i had called and asked for a specific girl (i'm picky) and when i got there they they tried to put me with another girl! i had to go back later.

I was curious about the new bliss at the W hotel since I receive the catalogs, use the products and heard the hype about this trendy New York spa. I booked a triple oxygen facial since this is what they are known for, and hoped for the best. My facialist, Katherine, was clearly informative about skin care and the products and was able to customize the facial especially for my skin's needs. The whole process was very relaxing, her hands were like yoga for the face, and I left the treatment in a state of deep "bliss". My skin has been radiant for days and I am definately a newfound devotee. I recommend this spa as a true gem and just what the city needed. On a side note do not use the hotel parking, they charge a fortune. There is a lot on the alley street natoma off third.

I took my husband on a little date night at Bliss... I told the reservationist of my plan and how important it was to have the mani/pedi start at the same time... well- my mani/pedi started 15 min's before his finishing. They really did try and make up with filling my goodie bag, but I would have rather had a nice time with the hubby than a couple of tubes of lotion. And the chairs arent cozy, the only PLUS is the wine/beer while you wait.

I had basic hot cream mani/pedi w/French on hands; paid $88. You only need to walk three blocks down for good nail svcs/reasonable prices. In spite of hot cream I still had dry skin; despite the fact that I paid $20 at another place two weeks ago and got a more thorough mani. My nails were cut shorter than I wanted since French seems to imply cut down to nub. The shape wasn't quite right either but I'll take the blame for that. I didn't like the fact the nail svcs are performed in basically the same area where their products are sold. Instead of relaxing you have sales folks and customers milling about. True, you can put the head phones on and watch TV/DVD but at these prices a little privacy is too much to ask for.

I have been to bliss two times now and they were both fantastic experiences. The triple oxygen facial left my face feeling so clean and I glowed for days...I even got compliments from complete strangers! Also their massages are aboe average and the 75 minutes you get makes a big difference. Everyone from the front desk to the therapists I had were wonderful. I can't wait to go back for a third time.

This spa is just ok. I was extremely excited they were opening a Bliss, but the facilities are kind of barren, they are always trying to push their Bliss products on you, they should most definitely validate parking as the whole thing is ridiculous. Staff is rude and I had a extremely unprofessional masseuyse who gave me the most half-ass massage I have ever had in my life. The mani-pedi stations looked really cool though. Needs a bit of work/improvement to get it up to par.

don't waste your time going to bliss. they have a lot of things to work out...the front desk is snobby and above all they do not validate your parking. my parking alone cost about half the price of my facial. until they start validating parking, i'd suggest going somewhere else. oh and the locker rooms are tiiiiny!

I've been a Bliss fan for awhile, and I must say that this location is my favorite - even better than Manhattan. A perfect mix of New York chic and cutting-edge treatments with San Francisco friendliness and customer service. My technician gave me some of the best waxing I've had anywhere (including the famous J Sisters in Manhattan!) The wax they use is almost painless for "delicate" areas and the products they use are second to none. I highly recommend the triple-oxygen facial - soooo relaxing. Come early to lounge around in a robe so you don't miss the yummy cucumber and cheese treats in the waiting room. :)
