Seriously, I didn't think I could walk into a place anymore without at least 1 person greeting me upon entrance and being extremely polite. This branch has sure proven me wrong. I mean usually the branch manager or one of the high-end branch people greet you, but at this branch everyone greets you.

The tellers I work with are (at least) fairly nice, and love conversation. It makes the banking process so much easier and faster when they try to distract you from the stress. Plus they have so many tellers working that usually the personal banking line tends to go pretty fast. I can't say much about the But yeah, they take care of you at the Santa Cruz branch no doubt.

The facility has ample parking, a good amount of ATMs, and has easy access from downtown. You can even take the bus there because of it's close proximity to the bus line's main station in downtown Santa Cruz.

I recommend it to any UC Santa Cruz students or to any incoming residents to the Santa Cruz county, provided that you're a Wells Fargo customer or are looking for a new banking solution. Check it out!

Pros: Fast service, easygoing tellers, friendly staff.

Cons: Doesn't come with a free massage?

Hy husband and I been banking (personal and business) with Wells Fargo on River for 11+ years. Although there is a very high staff turn-over a few of the tellers do stick around long enough to recognize us when we come in. They are always very pleasant and eager to be helpful.

Business folks take note: don't expect to get speedier service in the "business" line, we often just go straight to the personal banking queue if it is crowded.

The big issue I have with Wells is their lack of customer support once you get outside of the local branch. Their phone bank staffers say the right words, "I'd be happy to help you [...]," but are devoid of any real desire to solve issues not outlined in their tele-marketing-esque playbook. They will politely put you on hold until they can check with a supervisor, who seems to have the same playbook, but a more authoritative voice. If you really demand to speak with someone who can think or act independently they'll be so kind as to transfer you to the supervisor's supervisor's voice mail!

Our loyalty to Wells and long-term patronage also seems to mean little (if anything) to them. For example, we recently applied for a (very small) business loan and were summarily turned down by Wells (but approved by Santa Cruz Community Credit Union).

Wells is also the king of fees. Be prepared to be charged for things like "depositing too much cash."

In summary, the local folks are nice, the location is convenient, but the corporate treatment of customers leaves little to be desired. If you want a banker who will treat you like a valuable member of the local community I'd look for a different bank.

I normally only go to the bank to get quarters for my laundry since everything else is done online (which I like). There is always a wait to see a teller, but it's do-able. The tellers are always friendly and fast with my transaction.
