This is my favorite spot to bring friends for a fun meal before going out. The pizzas are tasty and well-priced. The appies are a perfect portion and a great compliment to the drinks.

This little gem of a place is on Nob Hill just a short walk from the Fairmont. A warm feeling bar and restaurant with many fine seafood dishes. They have a white cheddar mac and cheese there that I love. The homemade truffled fettuccini is another great vegetarian choice. The prices are fairly reasonable too.

Lets put it this way ..Eating there last week. (the Insect) jumped on bar, bartender swooped it up as though he sees it all the time. Lights were on there was a large amount of people at the bar and the (hard shelled insect) WASNT SCARED!! Pretty brave (insect) or is Brick being invaded? You decide.

Pros: ummm? Service was great. Its not their fault

Cons: insects? food is below average used to be better.

Nice ambiance, great music. We just went in for dessert which was outstanding. MUST try the salty brulee. It says it's for two, but good enough for just one to eat! It was rich, creamy, salty and succulent

Pros: Fast and friendly service

Cons: I think it gets louder the later it gets

Went to brick for the second time since it opened... no more small plates! On both visits the service was friendly and efficient and the food was good. This week, the little gem salad with beets was delicious and the pork pappardelle (I wasn't sure what to expect) was tasty as well. We split the "cheesecake" dessert which was interesting. The cheesecake (more like a brownie - not heavy, creamy like traditional cheesecake) was yummy but the chocolate cookie on the side was blah. Overall good dessert though. The vibe was cool without being pretentious, and it ended up being a perfect spot for our girls night out . Really good food, nice service, cool atmosphere. (not terribly spendy either) - Will be back! (Didn't get to enjoy anything at the bar but the bar itself is pretty sleek and inviting.)

Pros: cool atmosphere; interesting menu

Atmosphere was nice, service was excellent. Food was tasty, but when my dinner came with three very small scallops for the price of over $20 I was shocked! The entire size of my dinner was smaller than a typical appetizer. I left with a big bill and still very hungry. Wont go back

The food is good - not great, and overpriced. The portions are very small. If your going for a lite meal or appetizer with drinks, then I would recommend it, but be ready to pay for a three course meal.

In my opinion; for the quality and the amount that you get....not worth it!

This place should be considered a bar that serves appetizers, not a restaurant with a bar.

My wife and I were looking forward to eating at Brick after the many positive reviews, but we were very dissappointed in the food and in particular, the wine list. Very interesting and creative food concepts, such as falafel halibut with hummus, was overcooked and oversalted. The chocolate-salted ribeye was cold. The confit buffalo wings was the only well executed dish.

With the exception of the Carignane by Eric Ross, a fabulous but obscure producer, the wine list was hopeless. The sheepish bar staff knew this and told us to avoid the white wines entirely -- ended up with a Roderer Brut Rose to go with the halibut rather than endure the suffering of a limited and poor selection (shocking for a place with a huge and well positioned bar).

The staff were terrific, but you could tell they knew what was up. Avoid.

Brick has a very cool interior, fun crowd, delicious food, but most of all, amazing service. When I first went on a Friday night I was suprised by the packed, fun crowd. Since the hostess wasn't able to give us our first choice table, the management made up for it completely. They comped us drinks and desserts and had a really generous and genuine attitude. It made for a fun night for the whole party. I can't stop thinkng about the chocolate salt on the steak. My cod was fine, but the eggplant underneath it was the best eggplant ever. I'd highly recommend Brick as a fun weekend spot with friends or a romantic night on the town with your honey. Give it a shot!

I've been to Brick twice. Both times the food and service was great! Last time Amity took care of us at the bar. She's very friendly and creative with her cocktails (YUMMY!!), excellent service. The manager was around and was very helpful with good descriptions about the menu. I think it depends on what you order for food size because some of the portions (chicken wings) were very small but other items (salad, pasta dish, ribeye) were a good size. We left there pretty stuffed as well as lots of laughs with the staff! Definitely worth checking out and we'll be back for their 1/2 bottle of wines on Tuesdays.

I wouldn't recommend this place or ever eat there again - I felt completely ripped off after I ate there. San Francisco is full of great restaurants and you don't need to pay over $100 for dinner for two (with just two glasses of wine, not a bottle) and leave hungry. The food was tasty, but not worth it AT ALL. I can't imagine that this restaurant will be around for long once the novelty of being a new place has worn off. There are too many great restaurants in this city for them to compete.

I love eating small plates and sharing with friends. I must say the restaurant is nice and the waitstaff is friendly but the food is non-exsistent. It's pretty expensive for what you are getting. We got the poached seabass-which was really bland $15, Ribs-2 very small pieces for $15!!, fries which were the best thing on the menu, a bottle of proseco, and buffalo wings 4 small wings for over $10! We were still hungry so we got dessert-2 of them. One was a stuffed strawberry-you get 2 strawberries stuffed with ??? for $7!!! and we got some chocolate dessert for $7! Between 2 of us our bill was over $100 and we left the place depressed and still hungry. We actually went to the liquor store right after to get chips and dip!! If your're anoerxic, have a shrunken stomach, and a fat wallet then this is the place for you.

Exposed brick walls (hence the name) candlelight, low lighting, beautiful art, friendly unpretentious and knowledgable staff, three, no four tiered dining room(s), private tasting room, large rectangle bar, Chimay beer on tap, a great place to hang out or dine, and I've heard, excellent food. Happened upon this place and, since we had just eaten, had a few drinks. Great find, and it has the exciting buzz of a new place. It's worth it to go just to be in such a great space for awhile.

Pros: Ambience, variety of seating, drinks and menu. Extensive wine menu from the experts.

Cons: hmm, can't think of any.

Customer service was lacking. Each table should receive the same amount of attention as the next - this place doesn't give it to you. They avoid customers when they can. Their menu selection is okay - but their food description is definitely lacking!! Someone was experiencing an allergic reaction nearby. This could have become a life or death situation. Something that can easily been avoided if the descriptions of the plants were more detailed. I don't recommended going to this place. If you do, I suggest you ask for the chef to tell you what's in your meal.

The experience of watching the kitchen on a weekday night has changed my perception of eating out forever! Never knew the other half was seriously going for perfection, trying to get me my food in time-while Im waiting, talking, drinking & leaning back... la dee da!
Sit at the kitchen/watch those bad boys.
I was impressed with the attention to detail & cleanliness!
Waitstaff was helpful without being annoying, too urban or too cute.
Scallops,fig salad,pesto gnocchi, and mole..ummmmmm.
Every seat was filled but it still felt spacious.
Portions were acceptable/not stuff your belly & feel sick & oily.
And yes the bathrooms are huge..you dont have to step back to open the door!
We'll be back.

Bad service, long wait, gross food. Will NEVER wait there again. Ended up waiting for over an hour to be seated. Where is the 9.5 rating coming from? The OWNERS??? What a joke and then to have to pay for it also was insulting.

This restaurant shouldn't have an open kitchen...but they do. So, they shouldn't do anything in their kitchen that will concern customers who can see what is going on inside.

My friend and I sat at the kitchen bar counter. So, we had a great view of the kitchen. As we sat there, we saw that one of the chefs threw the top part of a sauce from a container in the garbage. Then, he used the bottom part. The container had a date written, it was a week before... Another chef cut raw fish for sashimi on a dirty cutting board. He cut up all the fish, wrapped them and then he returned the wrapped fish to the refrigerator. If the board is contaminated, he has contaminated all the fish. So, he is giving any pathogens plenty of time to multiply and make people sick...
When ordered the bread pudding for dessert. When we tasted it, we could taste other foods that are in the fridge. Sure enough, I later saw the chef take the plates of bread pudding from the refrigerator to serve another customer. The plate wasn't covered it at all.
But there was more! When we saw one of the chefs drop a lid on the floor, he put it back on the container without washing it! We saw a lot more...

If you don't want to get sick, don't go there...

This restaurant could be the perfect restaurant depending on what you're looking for. This is the perfect destination if you're looking for a launch pad for a night out in the tenderloin with friends. The menu is all about sharing. We ordered one of pretty much everything on the menu and LOVED it. I went in expecting small portions based upon what I'd read here and was surprised to see some fairly sizable plates. The fig salad was awesome. Short ribs were amazing. Even the fries rocked. One exception. Avoid the Skate wing. Not good. Otherwise, great place, great bartenders. Eat here. They've figured it out."

Food is pretty good. The menu is very limited, especially for a small plates restaurant. The waitstaff said that all the menu items are designed for sharing, but the unusually small portions make that quite a challenge.
Don't expect to get full here, so plan on making a stop at another resturant afterwards.
There are lot better alternatives in the City.

Based on the buzz and the quality of owners, I was excited to try this restaurant. However, we left hungry and unimpressed by the food. Although interesting, the wings lacked a kick and the texture was weird. The asparagus was awful, drowned in a thick balsamic sauce. To top of the mediocre food, the hostess copped an attitude and we left hungry. On the plus side, the scallops were great and we enjoyed our cocktails. The burgers and mac and cheese were not on the menu the night we went.

The restaurant interior has a cool vibe with rich, dark colors. I particularly like the bar seating area - good for people watching.

Upside = great cocktails and food in a fun, slick environment.

Downside = expensive relative to the portions which are way too small. Be prepared to stop for a burger on the way home...

Verdict = great place to have cocktails and a little nosh but don't expect to be full.

I live somewhat nearby and this is really a great go-to place when you want go have a quick nosh and some nice cocktails in a place that is nice enough to make you feel like you're "out on the town" but casual enough to just go in jeans and not make a big deal out of it. The set up there is cool with the bar. The service I think is pretty good and very friendly. You really feel at home. The food I think is absolutely delicious - especially the scallops and the confit buffalo wings. I agree that the servings are quite small and that can make the meal pricey. My solution is to get a basket of fries to round out the meal and fill you up. The wine selection is quite nice too.

I've been to Brick before and thought it was amazing. However, this time I discovered that the menu had changed substantially and all of my favorites were gone. The food was overpriced for the size of the portions. My friend and I decided to split a dessert -- the stuffed strawberries -- and were horrified to find that the dessert consisted of three SMALL strawberries. $7 for 3 strawberries?!?! Ridiculous. Good atmosphere....but would I go back? No.

I will say that Brick is certainly an improvement over the space's previous restaurant. The food was delicious and rich, although at times a little overdone. (I highly recommend the melt-in-your-mouth scallops) The service was great, very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Although it is a little pricey, I'll definitely be visiting this place again.

This is definitely one of my fave new restaurants. Service is super friendly and attentive, but the food was really the draw. I would definitely ask for your server's recommendations because we would have missed the scallops with espresso, strange sounding but really yummy! The mac & cheese, confit buffalo wings, and the mini burgers were outstanding. The fries were just okay though, quite soggy, and the collard greens were extremely undercooked where we couldn't eat it, but everything else was aaaahhhh-mazing. The drinks are fantastic, so if you're looking for somewhere to have drinks with friends and maybe nibble on some yummy food, Brick is perfect for that. I, personally, thought the prices were just fine, not overpriced at all. But this is definitely a place where going with a few people and sharing everything is a better idea than eating alone or even with one other person.

Confit buffalo chicken wings with candied habanero pepper chips on them, and a thick gorganzola foam. 3 times truffled mac n cheese. A grilled watermelon salad - with chedder cheese on top that is somehow robust, hearty and refreshing at the same time. Melt-in your mouth scallops, and some great wine parings to boot (ask your server about those). C'mon!

I've read people whine about the portion sizes, but the flavor, creativity, and quality of the small plates are not to be missed. It is a layed-back environment to get some drinks at and munch on some great food. Sit in front of the open kitchen and watch the Chef Noah and his cooks do their thang.

OR just keep sleeping on this place so it'll be easier for me to get a table.

I went here for the first time last night and came to Citysearch today to check out the reviews. I was THRILLED with my dinner last night and so was my guest. First of all, I don't know if they've changed their portion sizes, because we couldn't have been happier with the amount of food. Our tab for 2 was a total of $56 before the tip - we got 4 dishes total including the scallops, drunken mac & cheese, the tuna tartare and the cheeseburgers. I believe was also had 1 or two beers between the two of us. This was plenty of food for both me and my hungry dinner companion (one guy and one girl). We loved each and every dish we ordered - they were each very different but very tasty. The scallops were probably our favorite. Both the waiter and the hostess were great and attentive to our table. Food arrived in an appropriate amount of time. Plan to go back to BRICK in a hurry!

Pros: great service, tasty food, fun atmosphere

Cons: none

Went here a week ago after reading the reviews. The atmosphere is good, our server was attentive and polite. The food was good, but very small portions, we were looking for light dinner and cocktails, but it was still pretty small. It would have been nice if the server had warned us that ordering two plates for two people was not alot of food. The braised short ribs was literally 4 bites, altho the burger was slightly bigger. The food was good, it is a good place for tapas style portions and the cocktails were excellent, just what we were looking for. I would def. go back for drinks/appetizers, not necessarily for dinner. Good overall.

I have been to Brick about 4 or 5 times since it opened. The service is great - the staff always offers me suggestions on what to order (and explains each dish in detail - for those interested). This is the ideal place to go if you are on a date or with your girlfriend's for dinner and cocktails. The plates are made small so you can order a few different items to share. My favorite is the buffalo wings and the gorgonzola burgers (so far). I read some other reviews where people complained about the prices being a little high, but the dishes range from about $7 to around $15, and when I am with my boyfriend we are full after sharing three plates. If you want a basic cheeseburger for $7, then go to Ruby Tuesdays or some other chain restaurant...but if you want food with a little something extra, this is the place to go, and well worth the price. ;)

We came in on a Tuesday night and found a seat right away. We noticed right away the great music and the fun art on the walls. The dine in bar was surprisingly busy. Great small plates and the staff was really fun. We live in the neighborhood so we started swapping stories with the waiter. All in all a great time. We'll be back.

We went there on Friday night, very disappointed. Hostess' were brain dead (blank stares from both of them when we asked a reasonable question, How long for a table for two?), food was mediocre.

We'd been planning to dine at BRICK since reading about it in the papers a month ago. Last Sunday evening we went for dinner around 8 pm (they don't take reservations) and many tables were available, although the bar was full. We were warmly greeted by a friendly employee who asked us "Are you here for a drink or a bite?" I replied, "We're here for dinner." That turned out to be the wrong answer, as it seems that all they offer are "drinks" or "bites". The Two of us ordered drinks and four items from the intriguing menu--which advises that "all plates are designed to be shared". That can be interpeted several ways; Family style or small plates. However, when the plates arrived, it was obvious that in order to share anything, you would have to limit yourself to no more than 2 bites each. And although the food was tasty, the value was not there. We left still hungry after a $70.00 check and had to stop at Sliders down the street for cheeseburgers. Good place for drinks and bites , but not if you want to have dinner.

Brick is a great place to go if you want to have a few drinks after work with friends. There is a full bar immediately as you walk in. Dining here if you're hungry, however, is not ideal. The entrees are served "family size" (almost like ordering tapas) and come in extremely small portions. Be aware that you be looking at a very tall bill if you're looking to fill up. For this reason, this place is not ideal for groups or children. It might be a nice place to go on a first date, where eating is not as important.

This is only the second review I've written on citysearch, but I just couldn't resist... my friends and I just got back from such a lovely experience at Brick, that I just had to comment. The space is glowing and open, the service was great, and the food almost better. Our server and his team were aware and present and knowledgeable, neither pushy nor aloof. Each dish left us looking at each other with knowing glances of enjoyment. Highly recommend the squash soup and scallops, though there was nothing we didn't love.

My friend and I had dinner at Brick exactly 2 weeks after their opening and we were REALLY impressed with the food and service!! The short ribs and scallops were delicious! We are looking forward to eating there again and trying out new dishes. I would definitely come in on my own too!

so, i've been to this place 3x since they've opened, 2x with people, and once alone to get my fix. i can't get enough of this food. im new to SF and it reminds me of the good food i used to get in NYC. the portions are fine, i had 2 dishes (i was alone) and left pretty full, not sick and bloated. this isn't a texas steakhouse where u are competing to see who can eat the 50lb steak. its for people who enjoy eating food with lots of variety. this ain't no burger place. yeah they have it on the menu, but why order it. there are so many other items on the menu worth trying. the burger looks like it was added to please people who won't try anything new, or for those steak and potato people who won't eat veggies.

The food quality is very high. Everything was extremely tasty, from the ricotta gnocchi ($12) to the blue chz burgers ($13). The Mac n Cheese ($8) was my favorite. The space is open, stark and modern...I love the warm tones of the brick wall. The staff is friendly and attentive, and though this was day 3 they already seem to have a following at the bar. However, I have to confess that after $70 my guest and I were pretty hungry. The portions are the tiniest I have ever seen anywhere...in the world. We thought our crucible of gnocchi was a dish of relish, not a main dish. The burgers were two inches at most. The soup was a dab of asparagus over a scrap of crab. Everything had great flavor, but I don't think I should be hungry after $70 of comfort food. In the Tenderloin.
