When my buddy and I want to camp a half hour away, within reach of home and still have phone service; Piru is the place. The camping is set away from the water which is one negative, but there's shade and open campsites, which is what we look for. Fishing is tough at Piru, but the boat rentals are cheap and it's fun to tool around the lake.
