My husband and I used to love JR's but the last time we went the meat was very dry. I was not happy. Their sides were never that great, so we have moved on to another BBQ place.

J R's has been here since time began, it seems. I remember the days when I used to go in there with my parents and boldly order a Grilled Cheese, since I didn't eat much meat at the time. (Mind you, there WAS no Grilled Cheese on the menu.) J R would always oblige and make my special order with a smile.

I've since grown up and learned to appreciate slow smoked meat and consequentially fallen in love with this place for their delicious offerings. The Tri-tip is amazing and the ribs fall off the bone. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. It is definitely worth the trip.

Don't let the industrial area around J R's fool you. There are great eats just around the corner!

Not sure how an ex-roofer from Stockton who's never set foot in Texas came to name his BBQ joint after the lone-star state, but the food certainly isn't the reason.

The service and attitude here are outstanding, the room could seat 3 football teams, and the prices are bearable. From there, it's mostly downhill.

Chicken was a little dry, probably not their fault, it's the inadequate size of their smoker and cooking techniques that should share the blame.

The beef was overtrimmed, unflavorful, and a little on the dry side. Sauce and sides were ok, but otherwise, the menu was uncreative and all blends together (not enough distinct flavor) Like most of the locals, they just don't smoke their meats long enough.

I've heard their catering options are reasonable, if you're looking to have them come to you, otherwise skip the drive.

Cons: , miserable location
