These people are just not professionals. Here's another story to add to the already negative on-line presence that these people have cultivated all by themselves.

Despite reading a number of terrible reviews about the business owners at the Forest House Lodge (and clearly against my better judgement) I responded to a craigslist posting for their Social Media Coordinator position. They were looking for someone on a contract-basis to help them use Social Media to market their business. A small job, with compensation hovering in the $500 arena. I have a full time job, but have been doing this on the side for a number of companies and thought this was another opportunity.

Of course I perused their on-line presence and discovered A TON of negative reviews about them personally, not to mention the way they handle business. I decided to apply for the job anyway, however, hoping that maybe it was just a bit of bad press and speaking with them in person would help assuage any concerns I had.

16 days passed before they responded.

Ordinarily I would not be bent out of shape that it took them two weeks to respond. These things take time. Maybe they were interviewing other candidates? Maybe this isn't the #1 most important thing on their agenda? Maybe they just move slow? Not a problem. I went on with my life. I finally did get a cryptic response on a Thursday evening just saying "Please Call" and with a phone number attached. I happened to be packing for a long weekend (a wedding out of town, ironically), so I very politely and professionally offered to make an appointment to speak with them when I returned on Tuesday -- whenever they were available.

Patrick, the owner, sent me back an email, basically accosting me with exclamation points and question marks, letting me know how preposterous it was that I would shoot down a "life-changing opportunity". And then continued on to let me know how unprofessional I was to not jump at the chance to speak with him. I'm surprised, from the tone of his email, that he didn't throw in every curse word known to man. It was pretty comparable.

These people clearly don't see things the way normal people do, and I am hard pressed to believe that someone would want a person that disconnected from reality to have ANYTHING to do with their wedding day.

****It was a $500 contract job, Patrick. That isn't going to change anyone's life. And if you were not interested in my skillset or the way I do business, a polite declination would have sufficed. But instead burning a bridge with someone you were potentially going to hire to build you a GOOD image on the internet ????

Well, that's what I call preposterous.

We attended a wedding at the Forest House. The wedding was actually at their outdoor location, which was a bit rustic for my taste, but the view was amazing.

The food at the wedding was delicious and the dining room was done very nicely.

Nice job.

Planning a wedding? Ask for everything in writing up front and ask that they stick to it. Ask for a guarantee that you will have time to set up and clean up before and after your event. The management will try to squeeze 2-3 weddings in one weekend if possible, at your expense. Rooms are small and many have shared bathrooms, which is OK if you have the right kind of crowd.
