It's date night and you're dying for a burger, but you know your girl wont go for In-N-Out. What to do? Houston's is the answer to your prayers. Here you will find some of the best burgers possible and it doubles as a great date spot. The Hickory Burger is a favorite, but even hardcore meat eaters should try to veggie burger. It's the same size as the other burgers so you wont feel like a wimp eating it. When you think burgers, you probably don't think sushi, but this places also has a small, but amazing sushi menu.

The baby back ribs at Houston's are some of the best I've had. The literally fall off the bone and are so tender and dressed perfectly.

I honestly haven't ever ordered anything else on the menu because I can't stand to go without these ribs, so I can't give much advice on the rest of their menu. But the side dishes I have had are great, especially the creamed spinach.

HOWEVER, I went to the Santa Monica Houston's once, and was very disappointed. It might have been a bad night for them, but the ribs didn't come close to the quality and taste of the ones at the Century City location.

Went here for a quick lunch and was not dissapointed. The food looked terrific and the service is excellent. Upscale all the way although you may want to make a reservation as they book fast and are often very crowded.

The meat is delicious - smells delicous and looks delicious. The price is a bit higher than other places but definitely deliver the goods. Try the burger - it was juicy, flavorful and absolutely perfect. I can't wait to got back again.

My wife and I would visit this restaurant on a regular basis. One day in the month of July we were on walking on the promenade and we decided to have lunch at Houston's. I was wearing shorts and a tank top. My wife was wearing a blouse with tiny strings on it. We were escorted to our seats and our waitress approached us and asked what would we like to drink. We placed our order and a few minutes later we were asked to leave the restaurant, because I was wearing a tank top. I looked around the room and there were many woman wearing less clothing on top then my tank top. We were stood up in front of everyone and left. This is a beach city and it was summer. I wrote a letter to the coporate office and a few weeks later the G.M. called me. They said, ask for me on your next visit, I would love to meet you. Blah Blah Blah. We never step foot into that or any other resturant owned by the same company. The food is decent but the service takes away from the food, want a good burger drive a few blocks to Father's Office located at 1018 Montana Ave
Santa Monica, CA 90403.

Pros: nice ambience

Cons: selective service, poor decisions

This Houston's is located in the Centurity City Mall. It has the best spinach dip ever! They serve it hot with a side of salsa and sourcream and a plate of tortilla chips. The combination sounds weird but its really good! The menu has a good selection of food for everyone from b-bq check to seared ahi tuna. It can get really crowded so it always a good idea to make reservation or get there early. This is also a good place to go for happy hour.

The Houston's place is decent, convenient, a good place to stay after a day of hard work. To dine in, you'd better make a reservation, however, you probably have to wait for more than 25 minutes.( That's Tuesday night when we dined in).
We ordered a soup called kind of Chicken gomby ?! That's a soup mixed with rice, chicken and vegetables, it is tasty, fresh! For the entree, we had the center cut beef fillet with carrot side dish, the beef is tender, juicy but a bit salty, the carrot taste alright expect a bit overcooked. The whole dish is like just put two things into the plate, without any decoration, it's like you are having dinner at a fast food chain store!

Pros: too crowded, too dim inside, food is a bit over price
Cons: decent, comfort atmosphere, good service, convenient location

I gotta say that Houstons' has one of the greatest pork chops I've ever tasted. I almost always get that when I go. But I've had burgers, prime rib all were very good and very large portions, which as a guy I love. Drinks were spot on more towards the strong side and definitely not weak. Have always had a fun time with friends and dates there. Definite recommendation

My wife and I love Houston's. It it weren't for the prices ($25 for an entree salad), we would go there all of the time. The salads are terrific, as are - well - everything. My wife loves their french dip sandwich -- says it's the best one she has ever had. My best friend loves their ribs. I love their cheeseburgers. I know - it sounds silly...but they are soooooo good. And my favorite salad is the "Grilled Chicken Salad." It's one of the best salads in America. Staff members are usually friendly. We've gone there a lot -- so, of course, we have encountered some staffers who were a bit unfriendly. But those few staffers are the exception...not the norm. If you are in West LA and you want a great meal, go to Houston's!

I hadn't been to a Houston's chain restaurant in a long time, so I thought I'd take my girlfriend for a decent bite to eat. The hostess was rather pretentious, which was humorous. The waitress was decent, although she didn't do much other than take our order. The rest was left to busboys. The food was good, but ridiculously overpriced. $13 for spinach artichoke dip? $15 for a hamburger? $31 for a 10 oz filet mignon and a baked potato? For two people, no alcohol, we spent $93, with tip. Pretty outrageous for a casual dining experience. If the prices were about a third to half what they are, it would be worth it. It's amazing what people are willing to pay for an average dining experience these days. Perhaps that's just the obsurdity of LA. Only because of price I won't be going back and wouldn't recommend it. You can get much better food and service for the same price elsewhere.

I have consistently loved devouring the juicy CA burger w/my BBQ sauce on the side. I haven't been to some of the new haunts touting burgers but I've been pretty satisfied with this burger, despite its steep price and tediously long waits to get it. I usually go either super early or super late, say after 8:30-9pm to avoid long lines. I've also had the thai chicken salad, which is excellent but not sure how healthy it is b/c of its sheer size and stuff that goes in it. I think the CA burger beats other famous burger joints in santa monica hands down. I would stick to the meats and salads. Not sure I would order sushi and other things they're not known for. enjoy!

Ohhh, how the mighty have fallen. I have been to different Houstons at least 50 times. And I considered myself a huge fan over the past several years. But after my past 2-3 visits, I will never go back.

The simple, tasty fare USED TO BE a consistent staple. Now the menu has changed unexpectedly. Gone are longtime classics, replaced with sushi and quasi-fancy cuisine that fall way short?!?

The service used to be top notch, customer first. Now it's corporate and full of rules.

The ambience and decor are still nice. But the bar has a limited selection, and has been out of stock on notable brands my last 2 visits!

Pricey but the food is good. Houston's is one of those places where you do not leave satisfied unless you ordered a couple of beers. If so it's a great steakhouse. It tends to get busy on Friday nights and the wait could exceed 45 minutes and then just when you are finally seated, you're almost ready to leave.
I would recomed it more for an important business lunch where you can call ahead and get on time rather than for a night out.

If you're looking to avoid the food court, this place is great for a before or after movie meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, yet classy. For what you are paying, the service could have been better.

My date and I came here after a movie once for a bite. I got some gumbo which was admittedly good, and a chicken salad. My date got a turkey sandwich. I had some lemonade which was good and she had the iced tea. We expected decent to excellent food and got it; but then came the bill. Wow. $40 for not even having an entree? Dang. I'd come back after I win the lottery and have money to burn. I don't mind spending alot of money on phenominal food, but $28 just for a soup and salad? C'mon...

Houston's was where I went with my wife for our 6 year anniversary this year. As soon as we were seated, the pushy waitstaff asked us over and over if we wanted to order appetizers. Then we were read the specials and were repeatedly told that the specials would be a great choice. They give you no room to breathe! If you're a regular joe going out for a romantic up-scale dinner, this place will leave you intimidated and you'll feel pressured to order their expensive items for fear of being looked down upon for the rest of your meal. The waiters are more like salespeople than waiters. The food tasted great, but a $25 appetizer the size of my fist is anything but a good value.

Had heard about how great the burger was here - but every time we went the wait was too long. Well, we finally got in... to mixed results. The CA burger is fantastic, it really is (although not as great as Father's Office - seriously). But there were turn-offs. Their menu is pretty simple and incongrous (and they don't even tell you about their famous Chicago dip - which isn't on the menu. Staff is slightly snobby - but cmon, its closer to Cheesecake Factory than The Ivy. Lastly, they only allow women to wear hats - which is irrational and irritating.

went to the houston's at the century city location for valentines. i was anxiously awaiting to order the juicy hawaiin ribeye, but as soon as we got the menu it wasn't available. so i ordered the filet mignon. at $31, i expected this piece of meat to send me off to heaven.. but alas, it was just an ordinary steak. on the plus side, the filet was very tender. on the negative side, it wasn't worth $31.. the flavor was nothing special. what a huge disappointment! houston's use to be my favorite steak place, but i guess i have to look elsewhere.

I went to Houstons and was very impressed with the great atmosphere, they have tall booths that create much privacy. The service was fantastic and the waitress was extremely knowledgable of the menu. The steak was to die for and cooked to perfection. The bar area was very roomy and was a very pleasant place to have a drink while waiting a short while for our table. I would recommend Houston's to anyone who is trying to impress their guests and wants a great meal, our server Tiffany was outstanding, I will definitely ask her to serve us again, and you should try the veggie burger, its great for those who don't eat meat.

I walked into Houstons and i thought it would be very expensive and not worth it. Man was i wrong, for an appetizer we i ordered a spinach dip which was amazing. For my lunch i ordered the best chicken sandwich in the world. My friend ordred a spicy tuna sushi plat and all that was under 40 bucks. The service was great too but its all about your meal. I recommend it if you wanna spend a bit.

The menu is limited and everything is over priced, the staff SEEMS curtious until you ask for something extra. They don't remember any little requests you make (like a lemon with my water) and if you ask again, you will get a major attitude. I made a mistake of ordering sushi there and it was the worst sushi ever. Not to mention that they don't even have chopsticks. I ordered the vegitable roll for $11. The outside of the roll was wrapped with thin sliced avocado and they expect me to eat that with my bare hands? I ended up having to eat it with fork.

I've only been to Houston's 3 or 4 times, but on my last visit it seemed like they've made some changes ... for the worse. Our server confirmed that the menu changed a little bit - they pared it down and added some sushi offerings. They also jacked up the prices!! I'm now ashamed to admit it, but I paid $18 for a french dip sandwich and fries. Wow. Houston's is trying to move 'upmarket' and has gotten away from comfort food. For four people: 3 soups, two french dips, a chicken sammy and a salad, with just one beer between all of us = we paid $105. I think that's a rediculous total. Not going back here. Too many better values out there.

Who would've thought that a restaurant famous for steaks and burgers would have (hands down) the best Veggie Burger in L.A.. With hints of smoked barbeque this thing will rock your world. However, one VERY, VERY, VERY, big bone to pick with management for taking Guiness off the drink menu. The waitstaff told me that a lot of people have complained. They even encouraged me to express that to the manager while i was there. That was four months ago and still no GUINESS. Why would you not return something that a lot of people (according to wait staff) have been asking for? I love to go for the burger, but man it just makes me pissy when I remember getting a Guinsess with it in the past and realize I have to drink a beer I don't want!

If I could see any restaurant go out of bussiness, this would be the one. Even if you make a reservation, you still have to wait 15-20 min for your table. I've been there twice, same story both times. That's not being popular, that's just HORRIBLE management. The menu is extremely limited, and way to expensive for what it is. Avoid at all costs, unless you're one of those people that doesn't care about good food and value, and just wants to be seen at a trendy place. Otherwise, your time and money is far too valuble to waste at this sub-par restaurant.

Delicious filets! A greatly improved atmoshphere over the Century City location was the biggest change I noticed about this newest Houston's. The fact that it is smaller and cozier is a big plus and the overall experience (food, service, atmoshphere) was a 10!

Yes, the burgers and steaks are good, but I was shocked to find a wonderful vegetarian plate. It changes seasonally and the chef comes up with inventive combinations. Vegetables, beans, couscous and anything else included on the plate is seasoned and cooked perfectly. Since ordering the vegetarian plate, I haven't felt the need to order a burger or steak here.
