I took my daughter and her husband who at first thought it was a bit childish but when we were done boy were they ever impressed. We all had a great time. The performers do a phenomenal job and it really makes you feel like a kid again. I had a wonderful time.

Great show, wonderful theater! Best theater experience in the area! hands down! By far the largest in the area. The one trick I just couldt get... how he linked the borrowed rings. 3 different people in the audience, 3 different rings.

Very clever, wonderfully intriguing. The one thing that stands out in my mind, was the mind reading, it made me really wonder what it might be like to actually read someones mind.

I got a chance to hang out at the magicopolis bar last Friday and had one of the best nights of my life. Johnny behind the bar is a great host and fun magician. I felt like I was at a bar that I always dreamed of but never thought existed. If you haven??t had a chance to check it out?I highly recommend it.

Magicopolis?? Escape Reality is by far the most entertaining and engaging magic show I have ever attended. Throughout the show the amazing surprises and mind blowing feats keep even the most trained eye guessing, and the show never slows down! The performers?? stage presence was absolutely fantastic! Walking out the theater I realized I had laughed just as many times as my jaw was left hanging open in dumbfounded shock. Even more amazing is the fact they I can bring my young niece along and not feel guilty. Magicopolis has created a family friendly show that still amazes. I will be going back.

We sat at the bar area before the show and was entertained by another talented magician. All the employees were friendly and helpful. Magicopolis is a nice theater with very good seating for everyone. The show was very good with comedy blended into the acts. There was plenty of audience participation which made the atmosphere light and festive. We had a very fun and relaxing evening.

OK, let me state this right off the bat. The show is amazing, and super charming. Steve the magician not only looks like a classic master of the dark arts but, has a rapier sharp Rickles like wit that is genuinely hilarious. His assistant/co-magician Elenoras routines are truly magical in a more sentimental and transportive way. This IS theatre in a way rarely found these days. Professional yet homemade and personal...I loved it!

Brought the whole family there. We had a 2 and half hour birthday party there. My daughter was five and got to be onstage with the magician in the huge 200 seat theater. The video we have is priceless and all of my daughters friends and parents loved the show. Hope my kids can bring there kids their someday for a birthday. There is something to seeing magic live and is impossible to describe.

I was out doing some last minute Christmas shopping when I saw Magicopolis. I have been here before but decided to see what they had for tricks. I didn't play on buying a magic trick, but, when it costs $10 dollars, I thought why not. It turns out the trick was really easy to do and I was able to do it that night for my grandson. Pulling off my thumb doesn??t work for him anymore, but, now I can change a penny into a dime :)

I searched all over the place to buy a magic trick for my son and the only thing that comes up in google is Hollywood Magic and they are closed. What happened to all the good ole magic stores where one could come in and see a real person performing magic, then buy the trick that you just saw performed? It is weird that Magicopolis does not come when I search magic tricks in Los Angeles. Thankfully it came up under magic shows and the website was very informative.

The staff was great. The tricks were exciting, fun, and easy to do. Not mention they were also at a good price which must be hard for them to pays the bills I imagine... I still wonder what happened to all the magic stores. Hope they aren't a dying breed. It would be a shame to see this place go.

Magicopolis is such a neat place to take friends and family. The show is all ages and reminds me of a show you would see in Vegas. Also there is a bar magic show every Saturday night at 10 that I go to probably at least three times a month!

??Escape Reality? the title of the two hour show at Magicopolis says it all. From the minute I walked into the door I was instantly entertained. Even before we were seated for the show we found ourselves participating in magic tricks at the bar with the bartender and there were two more magicians performing in the lobby! It??s such a cool atmosphere right when you walk into this place. You instantly feel welcomed like you were invited to a really cool private magic party with friends. After seeing some magic close up you are seated for the show and it??s incredible. It??s a huge show with music and comedy and audience participation. We got to witness a lady float right before our eyes, have her body completely smooshed, saw a man escape a burning rope and deadly spikes, read audience members minds, and that is only the half of it! I haven??t come across another form of entertainment in LA even comparable to what this place has to offer. It is truly a one of a kind experience! Whenever I have visitors from out of town I always take them to Magicopolis and it continues to be just as entertaining as ever!

I went to Magicopolis with my entire family including my little 5 year old sister. I thought it would be like all the other little kid things we have to do as a family with her but everyone loved it! The show was so cool the magician Steve Spill was really funny and he actually made a woman float, read our minds, and made money come out of my brother's ears. He even had my older 21 year old sister laughing and in awe.

I wandered by this place with my girlfriends, and I didn't know what it was. Christi wanted to go see a magic show, and I was down with that. We wandered in and this place is the bomb! There's this dude who does a big magic show in the back. We saw it and it was awesome. I liked it when he made his assistant float. I remember seeing some magician do it when I was a kid, and it was so cool seeing it again.

The best part was the bar. There's this bar tender named Erik. All I can say is damn. He's good. The stuff he did was different from anything I've ever seen. I think I saw him at The Improv a few months ago, because there was this joke he did about his parents crying themselves to sleep. He's really funny. He convinced me and my chicas to hang out after the show. He does this show on Saturday nights called The Bar Show! It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He had these two chick comedians and this magician that performed behind the bar. Me and my ladies were laughing so hard we could barley drink out wine. Erik hosted the show, and I almost fell off my bar stool when he shoved a pen up his nose. Then he ate a deck of cards and found Christi's card with his tongue. It was crazy hella funny.

The only complaint I have is that they ran out of Pinot Noir. There were a lot of people in there, and I guess they had a run on it.

You guys have got to see this show. Seriously, go see it. Go see it now. I'm going back next week to check out The Bar Show! It changes every week, and it's my new thing on Saturday nights.

All of us in our party of 3 agreed it was one of the best plans we ever had. We wanted to do something fun, but were tired of the crazy club scene. There were people of all ages. The show was very entertaining. We were amazed by the tricks, all the magicians were very funny comics and didn't take anything too seriously ( a la david copperfield). Highly recommend this show, especially for a fun night out!

How often do we parents get to turn to our kid and gasp, ?How the squid did he do that?? With Santa Monica?s Magicopolis offering a family-friendly version of its popular ?Escape Reality? show on weekend afternoons, the answer is twice a weekend. No offense to those eager, multi-tasking birthday party clowns and their not-so-sleight-of-hand, but the tricks at Magicopolis are popcorn-droppingly amazing. Many are familiar ? from handkerchief illusions to sawing a woman in half ? but professional wow-ist Steve Spill has concocted clever skits, often with his beguiling assistant Eleanora, that add to the drama. ?Impossible!? exclaims Nipper as three rings collected from audience members are linked ? for real! ? and then somehow unconnected by Mr. Spill. And when Eleanora elegantly rises and floats midair above a couch, we?re all believers. Seeing a good magician pull a quarter from a kid?s ear has endured because, if you?re willing to give in to the wonder, even grown-ups can feel like a kid.

I recently visited Steven Spill's Magicopolis in Santa Monica, California. I thoroughly enjoyed Spill's "Escape Reality" stage show. Magicopolis serves-up astounding magic in a classy venue that's one block from Santa Monica's popular Third Street Promenade. Its fantastic stage show offers a deft and entertaining mix of large scale illusions, stand-up effects, comedy and music that will appeal to everyone in the family. There are also close-up shows performed at a new bar.
Running on weekends, "Escape Reality," the venue?s entertaining stage show, is a two-hour experience - including an intermission -which is a throwback to great magic shows of the past.
Together, the two stars of the show induce a sense of wonder and provide comical moments that send spectators into hysterics.
Magicopolis' roomy theater features comfortable seats that are set on a steep incline. There's hardly a bad seat in the house, except for the extreme right and left front rows.
The venue has undergone several recent changes. The close-up room has been replaced with a party room that allows groups to cater meals, as well as families to hold birthday parties. Another recent addition is a full bar that has turned the venue into a nightspot and serves as a stage for close-up shows. There's also a magic store with ongoing demonstrations.
Unless you're part of a group that has organized an event ahead of time, an afternoon or evening at Magicopolis doesn?t include a meal, but there are snacks and drinks that may be purchased. There's no dress code and the venue is family friendly.
You can easily make an afternoon out of some shopping and eating at the Promenade, and then cap the day with the wonderful entertainment found at Magicopolis. Or travel to Santa Monica just to see the magic. Steven Spill will make it worth your visit.

I've never heard of it and I thought why not go! Well...first I started with some drinks...the bartender there was amazing and he was a magician himself! Ladies...easy on the eyes...and gents...if you take a lady friend watch out, cause he might snatch her away...he gave me a rose made out of a napkin! Yes...he did!!! Anyway...three drinks later....the show must go on!!!! The magic show was great! It was funny and the audience participation is amazing! Kids love it and well I consider myself a big kid so I definitely will go back! I didn't give it 5 stars because one or two of the tricks I saw the secret!!! BUT don't worry...I won't spoil it!!!
I recommend this place! Its AWESOME!

My boyfriend took me here this weekend as a surprise and I was quite surprised! Never expected going to Santa Monica to find this place. Didn't even know it existed. I love magic shows, and this was one that I really liked. =) It was different from the fancy big special effects magic shows like in Vegas, but also very different from the carnival for elementary school children auditorium break day magician.
It was delectable mix of both! The people are very friendly here and the magician comes out to hang out with everyone at the mini bar in the front during intermission and afterwards.
Fun magic tricks mixed with entertaining lead in acting/stories.
Fun! There was mostly kids in the crowd with their parents but quite fun! And they have free comedy magic shows at the bar in the later evening.

I saw "Escape Realty" with a couple of friends last night, and it's wonderful. From first-rate close-up to great stand-up routines to some terrific twists on some classic illusions (the levitation of the "patient" in the psychiatrist's office in the first act, done close to the foot of the stage, was particularly impressive), it's unlike any full-evening show I've seen. There were far too many highlights for me to touch upon without making this post overly long, but suffice it to say that the show's unique blend of sketch comedy, storytelling and mind-boggling magic had the house laughing and cheering almost from the start.

The Stars of the show are exceptionally warm and personable performers, and that was particularly evident during last night's show. A large part of the audience was made up of kids and young adults who are part of the Special Olympics team, and the way the two of them rolled with the punches and handled their enthusiasm (always with kindness) while keeping the show moving for the rest of us was a text-book lesson in professionalism and class.

The venue is warm and intimate, and both the theater and the show have a disarmingly retro counterculture vibe. Way cool!

If you've not seen this show I strongly encourage you to get yourself to the Magicopolis theater in Santa Monica and do so. And if you've already seen "Escape Reality" (as was true for many in last night's audience), you might want to see it again.

I'm not the first to say it, but the show at Magicopolis is great for the whole family. I went to the matinee last Saturday with 7 people. The age range was from my mom & stepfather (80 and 86), my 10 year old daughter and her 12 year old friend and my best friend, his wife and my wife (her age undisclosed, but my moniker is "The Old Man"). Everyone had a fun time.

The space is very special. There is a bar area, for the evening shows. A candy/popcorn counter and a magic counter where there is pre-show entertainment and, mostly easy, magic for sale. The theater is perfectly set up for magic.

The theatre has a raised stage and 180 very comfortable seats. It works for close-up sleight of hand like the linking finger rings (when my mother was shown her diamond ring linked to other audience member?s rings she at first said it wasn't hers [it obviously was], there's always one in every show and it had to be my mother!). And it works for larger illusions?a beautiful girl is floated, sawn, squished, among other unbelievable goings on.

There were many costume changes and many funny skits woven into the tricks. They also worked well with the full age range of their volunteers--kids to seniors.

To conclude, this is a complete magic show that (to use a trite but true phrase) the whole family will enjoy. I can't imagine anyone with even the slightest interest in magic not enjoying it--whether with kids or not.

Pros: great fun

Cons: no liquor at bar, only beer + wine

My wife and I saw the show at Magicopolis a few weeks ago and we had a great time as I?m sure the others in the audience did judging from their reactions.
This is definitely not your typical magic show. It?s part theater, part stand-up comedy and a lot of great magic.

All in all, for the price, you can?t beat this show for entertainment value. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys magic and comedic-theater.

Pros: Lots of laughs

I took my family to Magicopolis last summer (my daughter is at USC), and it was truly a blast. My kids range from 8 to 18 and they all enjoyed it immensely. The show was hilarious - with a capital H - in addition to being great magic. Afterwards the stars came out into the audience and visited with everyone. It was a great family experience. We would definitely go again next time we're in Santa Monica. My only complaint is that the show is not on DVD so we could take it home with us!

Magicopolis has taken the stuffing out of stuffy magicians, the show was better than the one I saw at the Monte Carlo in Vegas and nobody wore a tuxedo. I know nothing about magic, I was nonetheless confident that I could figure it all out, in Vegas I sat about a mile away from the stage but could still see how many of the tricks worked.

At Magicopolis, the magician, who looked like Frank Zappa, wasn't going to get away with anything while I sat in the very front row, focused in on his every move. Wrong. That hippie magician hornswoggled me. He read my mind, made a pretty girl appear, disappear, and levitated her in the air while passing a hula hoop around her as she floated in space. The guy also survived having a ton of steel spikes dropped on him. My girlfriend and I walked out of Magicopolis totally entertained.
