What used to be Hermitage is now called MEET. For only being open four weeks, we were very impressed with the food, the service. The prices were very reasonable and with wine, an appetizer, two entrees and dessert, it coust us just under a hundred dollars, which in LA is very reasonable, especially when you leave satisfied. It's quaint, so don't expect not to hear your neighbor's conversation, but the rest makes up for it. I highly recommend this place and I'm wishing this local gem to succeed in these hard financial times. It's a good one, would love to see it stay around for a long time. PS, management is fantastic, the owner makes sure you are happy or he goes out of his way to do so. We will be back and we will be spreading the word around to our friends to visit

Pros: FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE AT MEET

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, but very pleasant, and the service is consistently the best I have at any restaurant in LA.
I went there 2 days ago and I had not been to Bistro de l'Hermitage for ahwile, and I am glad to say that it is as wonderful as I remembered. the sauteed lamb remains my favorite dish anywhere and the chocolate ganache cake with strawberry sauce is just delicious !
This place is really good and the prices aren't outrageous like at other French restaurants.

Love this place. The food is consistently good and the service warm and friendly. Feels like I'm in France. My favorites are the endive salad (something a lot of restaurants offer, but the walnuts here of coated with honey and the dressing is yummy) and the Moqueca Shrimp. Recommend sitting on the patio as the chairs out there are more comfy than the chairs inside.

I took my girlfriend to this place after a movie , I was there a few years ago, i tought we should try it again. it was 9:30 they only had 2 tables outside the waiter came to take our drink order, and coming from the movies we just wanted water to start, Big mistake the waiter's attitude changed completely. he gave us a nasty look( we should of left then ) we ordered a cup of french onion soup that we were assured it was vegan. My girlfriend who is a chef knew right away that there was beef stock in the soup. We aked the waiter to check with the chef, he said that he was certain that no stock was added to anything.. i ordered trout, arrived over cooked, my girlfriend got the Veal liver ( over cooked served with a watered boring sause), both of our entrees got served with this soggy veggies, mostly likely leftovers from the lunch service. the wine was sub par. the waiter dropped our food to the table and never came back to check if everything was ok. he was busy on the phone in the restaurant. all this with only 2 tables seated outside. Dinner for 2 80.00 without tips Well t is my mistake for choosing to dine at this place. Avoid-Avoid-Avoid...

Over rated... I ordered the halibut, is was either frozen or who ever cooked it s... at what they do. It was way over cooked and too fishy. the ice cream on the apple tart was soft as it could be and it tasted like metal so that tells you how old is it . who ever owns this place odd to give a little more respest to the customers if they want to stay in bussines because this are rough times and I am definately not going back.

We actually made a reservation on a Friday night and I have no idea why. Perhaps because we thought that those that reviewed this restaurant gave it decent reviews and we assumed there would be a crowd. How wrong we were!

First the restaurant was empty, perhaps we were on the early side of dining-especially for Europeans, so I did not think much of it! The restaurant inside was small but we tried to think of it as cozy. The atmosphere was wretched. The kitchen is behind the bar and that could be nice if it weren't for the tella novella on the TV playing loudly for those in the kitchen cooking.

The wine we ordered was mediocre at best, but we took the blame for that. But beyond that it was all on the kitchen and staff. The fois gras terrine was dry and tasteless on a bed of tired greens. Not a thing about it salvageable. The beet and goat cheese salad was even worse. The beets were right out of the can and the goat cheese was from some sad log of cheese that the picked up at the nearest grocery store-and not a gourmet one. While we debated quitting while we were behind and heading elsewhere, we stuck it out in hopes of improvement with the entrees. Again, bad call on our part. The sanddabs were overdone and drenched in some really bad cream sauce-not at all good. The vegetables were oversalted and relatively boring. The salad nicoise would have been a better choice at the Cheese Cake Factory (which I despise).

While the restaurant was relatively quiet, the service was not the best-I would say fine. The best part of the meal was when our check arrived and we could leave.

I have to say that I really question those that have reviewed this restaurant and given it anything other than low ratings. Perhaps they have never had French food before or for that matter good food. If you are doubting our love of the French food or if we have any kind of taste at all-we have eaten at some of the best spots in LA and were hoping to find a nice bistro near our house. After this experience we will gladly pay $$$ for a nice French meal and/or drive the distance. Take our advice skip this place entirely!!

Pros: Great Location and decent baguette.

Cons: Too many to name!

Had lunch with a friend and had an amazing "muqueca shrimp" and for dessert the passion fruit mousse. My friend had the Avocado & goat cheese salad and the Filet Mignon as a main dish. We were both very impressed.
The patio seating had a nice "European" feeling to it.
I strongly recommend it!
My compliments to the chef!

Wonderful choice for a romantic dinner with your favorite guy or gal. We sat outside under the stars and shared a bottle Sancerre and a warm shrimp salad which is to DIE FOR. This is a must have! It was so good we ordered a second plate. For entrees I had the halibut while my boyfriend ordered the french pork chops with sweet potato fries. Again absolutely mouthwatering. We'll definitely be back.

I went to the Bistro for lunch recently and sat in the sidewalk cafe portion. It was the perfect spot to relax and soak in the sun over great bread and a fabulous eggplant salad, followed by a top-notch cappuccino. I'm not usually a big French food fan, but the menu is huge so there's something for every palate. The chef/owner greeted us himself and was very attentive. It would be a great place to go for brunch or a date night, too.

We went to Fraiche but could not get in ( no reservation ) so we decided to talk a walk, until we saw this place that was empty on wednesday night, my wife ordered a glass of pinot noir, I am sure this place serves extremely cheap wine by the glass ( tasted like it.) I ordered the salmon definately not fresh tasted like it had been in the freezer for a long time. service was non existent, then we realized why there was very few people in this joint some friends of us had dinned at this place before and warned us about it, but I wanted to give it a chance BIG Mistake. and their prices are those of an upscale restaurant that really serve decent food. will not go back...

Valentine's Day is aproaching and it brought back last years's memories. I took my wife to this place last years for dinner last year and since then we have not gone back, when I made the reservation I was told the price. we got there our table was given to someone else, portions were much smaller then they normally serve. then I reallized that I was paying twice as much for the same everyday menu items. But the worst came when I got the check, they had added $10.00 more per person. I asked the waitress for an explanation, she offered to call the owner to the table to discuss the matter i said o.k. five minutes later she tells me that the owner was not there. BIG LIE he was there all the time but he went missing in action when I customer demands to see him? BE AWARE WHEN MAKING A RESERVATION AT THIS PLACE!!!

I chose this place based on reviews from this site. Although I expected the restaurant to be a bit fancier, the food was good enough that I wasn't severely disappointed. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend eating outside. They have a wonderful view of the street and surrounding stores and restaurants, so it's great for people-watching. Their appetizers seem to be much better than their entrees. I ordered the escargots and cheese plate, both of which were divine. But when they sent out my quiche, they got the order wrong. I had asked for a ham and cheese quiche and they gave me the spinach. I tried it anyway, and was disappointed. My friend ordered the steak, and while it was good, it wasn't anything particularly special. I would recommend this place if you were simply looking for some fromage and charcuterie to whet your appetite.

New Year's dinner allows for some price-hiking, but this restaurant went for a highway robbery. The prix fixe price cited on the the phone was $50, but the menu said $60. Even adding the most expensive items in the bare-bones 3-course menu (very limited choices) barely added up to about $45 on the regular dinner menu. One would have expected a welcome sip of champagne, or some extra palate-pleaser for the additional money, but nothing like that was offered to mark the occasion. The wine list was much more limited than the on-line wine list and the prices were inordinately swollen too compared to the on-line prices. The cooking was mediocre, though the place was not filled to capacity. That said, the service was spirited and good-humored; the only reason to go back to the place would be the competent and lively French waitress.

I had dinner at the bistro before and food was ok. my friends a I thought we should give it another try, but guess what... a real dissapointment. We ordered apetizers to share and the waitress did not like tha idea I ordered Rib-eye steak but in return got some other steak that was as tough as rubber, my friends were not happy with their entrees either. For dessert we ordered a Chocolate souffle, it was undercooked and overpriced $15.00 I am not complaining about the price. But it is our fault for going to such mediocre places for dinner. After all there is FRAICHE or anyother RESTAURANT.

Early Fall evening - outdoors - saxaphone belting soft smokey tones [tuesdays and wednesday] - artichoke with amazing dip; halibut that melted in the mouth; succulent lamb. Amazing service. A wonderful surprise. No attitude and half the price of the pricier LA French. A delight!

We've eaten here a couple of times now, but we won't be going back again. The food is at best mediocre, and is WAY overpriced for what it is. We're more than willing to pay for fine dining, but felt ripped off both times we have eaten here. There are way too many restaurants in Culver City that are much better than this place!

What I love most about "Bistro" is the fact that you totally feel like you are in France while dining there. You never feel rushed - the wait staff ensures that you relax and enjoy and allows for your meal to linger, as it would in Europe. The food is incredible. My favorite are the scallops with saffron and my husband loves the lamb. The beet salad is always a delicious start and the chocolate souffle is the best I've ever had. Be sure to sit outdoors - lovely and romantic. A perfect date spot!

Possibly the worst OJ and champagne I've ever had. $8 for a thin flute of Tropicana type OJ and cheap champagne. On the positive side, nice atmosphere, good coffee and yummy chocolate souffle with sinful side items.

I went there with my girlfriend Pat the other night (wednesdays or thursdays are nice, it is not too busy and the waitress speaks French!), and it was just great. I ordered the scallops risotto (very very tasty, south of France like), Pat ordered the roasted duck (orange sauce..mmm..), we shared an artichoke (cooked perfectly) and of course the amazing chocolate Souffle ($15, but big enough for 2 or 3 people, and...last but not least... coming with artisanal ice cream-2 big scoops-)!!! We had a great time, practiced our french with the waitress... I really recommend it. Sometimes you can wait a little when it is really busy, but, you know the ambiance and the food and the service are worth it!!!!!

My wife and I took our two kids out for dinner, I called to see if the Bistro would have kids items on the menu I was told that they only had pasta but we went anyway, The waiter was very friendly and patient he totally worked with us, we had a very pleasant time. I ordered a Filet Mignon it was over cooked but it was well worth it.

I love this little Bistro in Culver City. The waiters are polite and attentive, the food amazing. I especially like the halibut in lemon white wine sauce. For dessert, the chocolate souffle is delicious and is perfect for two. Sometimes it gets busy, especially when theatre is in, but I like the buzz of the French waiters zooming about. This place is about dining and if it means that it takes a bit longer for the food to come, I suggest enjoying the experience, sipping a glass of wine and watching the people walk by. The patio is a must for a cozy Sunday brunch!

Something is different in this restaurant.
I have been going to this place all the time since they opened, food and service were great. We went with my girlfriend last week and what a disappointment, the food was still ok even if it was medium when we order medium rare but most of all the waiter was completely ignoring us,we only got our wine when our main course arrived and only because we asked the busboy.when we finnaly got our wine there was some lipstick on it.However You should try the chocolate souffle very good but very pricy $15

Pros: Outdoor patio,desert

Cons: Service,price

.

I don't understand what happened to this place. It used to be one of my favorites, but we went there tonight and it was like it was a different restaurant. The food which is usually great was just OK, but the service was strikingly bad. It took 90 minutes to get the food and then when we left they had things on the bill that we had not received. I am very sad about this, and I don't know if I can ever go back. I have seen it happen before, when a restaurant sees itself as being so good that it no longer has to respect it's customers. And then one day the lights are out and the door is locked.

Within walking distance, my coworkers and I make our way down here every so often. There's not much else in the area so one has to be specifically inclined to eat here. I've had several of their dishes and they're fairly decent. If you show up even ten minutes after noon, you'll find yourself waiting forever. What I find odd is that they serve you this really good French bread, but it's so crumbly that it's nearly impossible to spread your butter on it, and it leaves so many crumbs on your table and they don't give you plates. But neatness aside, the food's decent and I'd go back when asked.

for starters, the service is exceptional. everyone was really nice and worked together, making it feel very homey and personable. the food was good, not great, but then again, i am a very picky eater. you definitely get great portions for a reasonable price. we got the chocolate souffle for dessert, and i can't say i was a fan. but all-in-all, i think the food, service, and prices equaled a great dining experience.

If you want to go to a cozy, delicious, great service, feel at home kind of place try them out. Excelent food, super nice people and location, location, location! They treat you so well you don't really want to go anywhere else. I never had a bad experience or a bad meal. And I am a picky person! My favorite... their seafood risotto! All the food is sooooooo fresh and cooked with love! If you don't find parking park at the Trader Joes and take a little romantic walk along downtown Culver City.

Pros: You feel like you stepped out of Los Angeles and into a little cove of Europe

Cons: Parking. Walking distance to a big parking structure in Trader Joes though

Very much enjoyed this restaurant. Enjoyed the outdoor patio. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The chocolate soufle for dessert is highly recommended! The specials of the day were also very good. Service was friendly, and also let you sit after your meal (like the French!) and didn't rush you away. All around great experience.

This adorable Culver City bistro is my new neighborhood favorite! The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive and the outdoor tables are lovely and warm. I've eaten there twice and would highly recommend the scallops in saffron sauce and the tuna tartar appetizer. We let the waiter select wine for us, and on both occassions was an excellent accompaniment to our entrees.

This is a wonderful and very authentic French bistro. The food and wine were absolutely fabulous and the ambience was lovely. I found myself wondering if I really was in downtown Culver City and not in Paris! I highly recommend the halibut (which they prepare in a glorious creamy lemon and wine sauce) and the delicous gratin potatoes. Everything on the menu looks great. I can't wait to go back!!

What a fabulous restaurant. The ambience, food and wine were perfect. We dined al fresco on the patio, enjoying the fresh air and great service. All in all a delightful evening and I highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner.

More than a delicious meal, this eating experience reminded me of the atmosphere of a Paris cafe. Sitting outside on the patio, as the sky darkens and the little tree lights come on, savoring every morsel of my delicious shrimp, was quite simply, euphoric.

I plan on going back again and again. In fact I plan to have my husband's 50th birthday party there.

Thank you so much!

Pros: Good Wine List, Good Specials, Great Brunch Menu

I had the best time in Bistro de l'Hermitage. The food is the best you can get & staffs are extremely kind and informed. The friendly attitude of the staffs makes you feel like you are at your favorite aunt's house. The quality of food makes you feel you are at a 5-star French high-end restaurant and good thing is your bill is not even close to such places. Overall, I enjoyed my time in this cute and cozy French Bistro in Culver City.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever tried. We arrived at 5:50pm - allowing us a reasonable time to have a leisurely meal before attending a performance at the Kirk Douglas Theatre nearby. We told the waiter we had to leave at 7:30. We ordered at 6pm. By 6:30 nothing had arrived, not even the wine. When we asked for it, the waiter responded "Don't push me!" The wine finally arrived by 6:45, our salads by 7pm. and the entrees arrived at 7:25pm. We had no time left to eat. We got up to leave and agreed to pay for the salads and wine. The waiter had the gall to ask us to also pay for the entrees and take them as a take-out order. We refused.

This place is authentic, wonderful and perfect. The French husband-and-wife that own the place have effectively transported the true French ambiance and cuisine to Culver City. A perfect location on the wide sidewalk allows you to sit outside and enjoy (it's not loud at night because the area dies down when Sony shuts down for the night). Every time I've been there have been some Frenchies there too...
