.

My family has a lot of back problems, so we're very demanding when it comes to massage. We've scoured every spa, athletic club, and massage therapy clinic for miles around, and we all agree - Derek at Core Massage Clinic is our all-time favorite.

The place is more medical office / yoga center - it focuses on alternative healing and doesn't offer any spa services. So if you're looking for pampering, head elsewhere. But if you have serious muscle knots, back pain, or discomfort, let Derek stretch them out and knead your problems away. He's got plenty of credentials, but it's his natural knack for teasing out those sore spots that makes him so good. The clinic also offers a range of other services - yoga/meditation classes, nutrition, acupuncture, etc.

Personally, he's kind and genial and just generally delightful - I've noticed some massage therapists tend to the extremes of aggressive sports-oriented dudes to spaced-out hippie chicks, but Derek's squarely in that middle range of professional, approachable, capable, all-around good guy. (he's cute to boot!) ;)

The prices are considerably higher than you'll see anywhere else, usually 1.5 times typical massage prices, but you're paying for a higher level of expertise, and a profound level of healing.
I appreciate the convenience of being able to book appointments online and receive email reminders.
What the location lacks in elegance (behind a dry-cleaners and next to a Wendy's), it makes up for in convenience (near Hwy 280, off Saratoga Ave at Williams, with ample parking).

I may head elsewhere when I want to be pampered - but if I want sincere sympathy and serious healing, I call Derek.
