I love this place! It's right on the water and the lunch menu is great. I recommend the chicken salad sandwich! It gets crowded so I'd make reservations the day before.

The lunch menu is actually really good and reasonably priced. I went back with a large party and was sticker shocked with the diner prices. Good food and you cannot beat the views. There is a hike from the parking to the actual beach but worth it.

If you have friends visiting from out of town, you need to go to the Beachcomber for breakfast and sit on the patio. Food is great but the atmosphere is amazing. Service is really good. Best ocean view - you're steps from the sand.

This is fun experience to eat in one of the original Crystal Cove beach cottages. The walk along the path from the parking lot across the street is always and adventure for our kids. We take come cards to play while waiting for our table, it can easily take an hour. We find the breakfast better than dinner. It seems every time we go for dinner the service is slow and there are items on the menu that they are out of.

Beachcomber Cafe is located in the Historic District of Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Beach. The area was established as a famous beach destination in the 1930's. Many of the old cottages still remain. The restaurant in located in one of the original cottages. You can enjoy some indoor dining but it is mostly on the beautiful outside patio. They have space heaters and blankets for chilly weather.
You can't beat the view or the atmosphere. The food is good too! serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The restaurant is located beachfront below Pacific Coast Highway. Parking is above the highway and is validated when you dine at the restaurant. You can either take the shuttle down to the beach ($1) or take the footpath. There is also handicap parking a few yards from the restaurant. (enter the beachside driveway off PCH)

After you enjoy the Beachcomber Cafe, enjoy a walk along the beach!

I have been eager to check out this restaurant. Since the weather was perfect, we decided we should spend our afternoon/evening at the beach. We arrived to the Beach Comber a few hours before sunset to enjoy the view and have some food and drinks. We parked across the street and took a quick shuttle ride down. The beach and restaurant were extremely busy with the beautiful weather this weekend. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. Well worth the wait! We enjoyed a couple beverages in a truly relaxing setting. This is the only true beachfront, on the sand restaurant, I have found in our area. The food and service definitely complimented the location.

I read a couple of the previous reviews stating issues with the restrooms. I am very curious as to why a group of 3 people from the same date and time decided to bash something that didn't seem relevant to what we found. (Seems like some sort of intentional slander) The restaurant doesn't have any public restrooms. That is what seems odd. The only restrooms made available to us are part of the beach park and used by anyone using the beach. (They looked fine to me considering they are public sandy beach restrooms) I don't think the restaurant owns these?? Just my observation...

I would give this place a try if you are on vacation or would like to feel like you're on one. Highly recommend!

Cons: None

An enjoyable restaurant with a down to earth staff serving very enjoyable meals. I have been there twice and each time my visit has been amazing and relazing as I enjoyed my meal and the view. Great tasting breakfast items - try the brioche french toast. On sunny days there seems to be a wait, but you can certainly understand with a view like they have and great food. Well worth the visit.

Great food, house made Bloody Mary's, service and atmosphere!! Friendly staff and wonderful view. Been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and everybody is always smiling and seems to be having fun. Even when its really busy... Did I mention the Bloody Mary's? Where else can you have a nice casual breakfast on the sand in Newport and enjoy home made beignet's and brioche french toast or macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup? We go so frequently that the professional staff even knows our names. Dinner ambience is cozy and romantic with soft-lit lanterns and the sound of gently crashinig waves in the background.

Yes restrooms are a little bit sandy and plain but hey, its the beach and I've seen much worse at the mall.

Takes a little effort to get there but the shuttle drivers are always very friendly and know alot about the history and goings on in the area. This gives you a great first impression of what's to come. Its a really pretty walk if choose to do so (instead of taking the shuttle) but I recommend taking the shuttle back.

I highy recommend The Beachcomber Cafe! :)

OK - The food was good, a bit pricey, but good. However, I, nor anyone from my family, will ever dine at this restaurant again or suggest anyone else ever eat there after what happened to us this evening. I don't know about you, but after eating a nice, tasty meal, you might expect that the restrooms might have soap, toilet paper and paper towels - nope, not here! If you plan on coming to this restaurant, you should probably bring your own. Additionally, you should probably plan on walking back to your car across Hwy 1 because the shuttle service is extremely unreliable. We waited 25 minutes before we just walked back to our car ourselves with a 9 mo. old baby!! When we tried to complain or find someone to help us we were greeted with shrugged shoulders and no answers. The service was terrible and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The helpful hints from Citysearch say "to write if relaying your experience to a good friend". OK, well then....
This is by far the worst experience in a restaurant I have EVER had!! Funny enough, it had nothing at all to do with the food, which was fine (overpriced but fine). It was the HORRIBLY UNSANITARY restrooms offered to the paying customers (which are state owned public beach restrooms). ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? My biggest question is: Do the employees use the same restroom???? Because tonight there was no toilet paper, soap or paper towels. All I can say is........HEALTH CODES! HEALTH CODES!! And if the employees do use other restrooms, it is no doubt due to the fact they the ones for the paying customers are obviously too gross for them. OMG!

If that is not enough, the shuttle to take us back up the hill to our car never arrived for us.(which supposedly ran ever 8 minutes until 10pm). We got there at 9:45pm.

At 10:05, I walked back down to the restaurant to inquire (as there was a cold nine month old baby and 8 others waiting as well). The staff must be robotic and trained to say the following: "We don't know...we just work here". It was almost comical at that point. But not really.

It was just the worst of the worst of the worst. Unsanitary. Unhelpful. Un-everything. The staff was rude...the management was so clueless and unhelpful (His name was Brandon), and the whole situation was just plain torturous. Meanwhile, no shuttle.
A few of us decided to take the hike up the hill to get our cars. We did finally encounter the shuttle driver who told us that "he was getting gas". SNORE, SNORE on that story.

Hope I don't get sick tonight, because you all will be in deeper doo doo than I was in the women's restroom!!

Department of Health, here I come!

GROSS, HORRIBLE, AWFUL, and any other words to insert here to tell you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!

They really should be quite ashamed.

The food was good but the overall dining experience was terrible. The restrooms are deplorable...the restaurant uses the state beach restrooms, and by the time we dined late in the evening, there was no toilet paper, no soap, no paper towels. Do the employees use these same restrooms? If so, the result would be unsanitary serving . If the staff has clean restrooms, why don't the customers have the same? The food is rather pricey, so we felt we had a right to expect clean conditions. The staff just shrugged it off and said it was the state's responsibility, not theirs. We had to park across Highway 1and take a shuttle to and from the restaurant. When we came in, we noticed that the shuttle stopped running at 10:00 pm, so we were careful to be at the stop by 9:45 after our meal as we had an infant with us . The shuttle is advertised as running every 8 minutes, but we waited in vain in the cold for 15 minutes. The staff was not at all helpful...just told us they couldn't reach the driver. So several in our party had to hike to the cars and return for us. The staff just didn't care. It was cold by this time of night, and there were 2 children among those waiting. The shuttle arrived at the same time our cars did. He said he had to get gas. So yes, the food was fine but there are lots of restaurants with good food. We expect a good overall dining experience, and because we had such a poor one, we will not return to this restaurant and will never recommend it.

I received great recommendations from colleagues to try this restaurant so I was very excited when I was finally able to make the time to dine there. However, I was horribly disappointed with the service my family and I received. The waiter was extremely rude, served our food after a 45 minute wait only after I had asked him about it, and made a mistake to the bill, charging us twice the amount that was due. When I talked with the manager he was unprofessional, rude, and did not take any responsibility for the poor service of the staff. The only thing he offered us was a business card to call the general manager the next day. I felt extremely offended and upset. I will never again return to that restaurant and will not recommend that place to anyone. In fact, I will deliberately tell everyone I know not to even waste time going there.
