First off, I disagree with the previous review.. Downey's Chocolates was a Top Pick for Chocolate in the OC and La from Good Day LA .. The Chocolate was really good, and freshly made by hand in the shop. Downeys offered Chocolate making classes among other interesting unique food items for Breakfast and Lunch as well as homemade ice cream ..They even had several varieties of Crepes made to order in front of the customer..This was a interesting, sophisticated, and artistic type of cafe experience..
Anyway, none of it matters because they are no more..Out of Business..
I blame the location,,(location location!) an older strip mall in older part of Laguna Niguel, (it should have been in Newport Beach or Laguna.) Of course the ECONOMY was also a prime factor. Too Bad!.

Ok. First off, this place is not worth traveling to Laguna Niguel. The chocolates don't taste what the flavor are suppose to be. If I didn't have a flavor chart, I would have no clue which ones were what flavor, because they pretty much tasted the same. The coating on each of the chocolates were very thick, which if you talk to chocolatiers in San Fran, New York and France, is a signs of a poor chocolate. The thinner the chocolate coating, the finer the chocolate. Chocolates should have a very thin layer of chocolate to protect the centers and that's it. I guess if you want over priced, so called Belgium chocolate, then by all means, drive there and waste you gas and time. Trust me, it's not worth it.

Pros: I was able to leave and not have to go back.

Cons: Price, quality of product and location.
