Please read these reviews and avoid Vicara salon if you care about your hair at all! I was enticed by the 50% off flyer that came in the mail. I read a few negative reviews, but decided because I was so strapped for cash I would give Vicara a try. Bad move! I learned why they say "buy cheap, buy twice", or in my case buy cheap, spend forever trying to repair your hair! I went to Tracey to get my roots done, a simple procedure that usually takes about an hour. After I had been sitting there for two hours I started to wonder what was going on. I was sure leaving the chemicals in my hair for that long would damage it. When she finally agreed to rinse my hair, because my scalp was burning, there was no change in the color! I still had dark roots and golden blond hair. She offered to try to bleach my roots again, but at this point I wanted to get out of there and agreed to come back later that week and actually have my roots lightened. Another huge mistake! This time I left the salon with orange hair!!! I think because she wasn't using the right product to lighten my roots she decided to add color to the rest of my hair, so then the contrast wouldn't be so great. I never said she could ADD color to my hair! The whole point was to make my roots as light as my other hair, not add a toner that turned my hair orange! I was obviously furious! My experience with the manager, Princess, was sadly no better. I had a photo shoot the following week to get new head shots and Princess assured me she would fix my hair before that. I made an appointment with her for Saturday at 10:30. When I arrived the receptionist informed me that because it was a Saturday they were too busy to do my hair. WTF?! I approached Princess, who had a sadist grin on her face, pointed to my orange hair, and said,"You intend to let me leave your salon looking like this? This is the worst customer service I have EVER experienced!" Her response was, "We tried to call you," in the most unapologetic tone you can imagine. There was no missed call on my phone! So I left without getting my hair corrected, furious that someone would treat me that way, and now I have orange hair in my head shots! Thankfully I stumbled upon Raquel at Head First, on the PCH in Redondo Beach. She was able to fix my hair, with out damaging it too much, and I am eternally grateful! I only suggest going to Vicara if you don't have enough frustration in your day to day life!

Pros: Absolutely NO pros!

Cons: Rude stylists with little or no training!

*WARNING* If you cherish your eyebrow hair, never, never, never, get your eyebrows waxed at Aveda Vicara in Torrance. I recently decided to take advantage of a 50% off coupon I received from Vicara. Thinking that I was in desperate need of an eyebrow clean-up, I decided to utilize the coupon for this purpose.

The skincare specialist, Natalie, seemed pleasant enough as she speciously beckoned me into her waxing lair, which, in retrospect, was ominously lit, and placed in a far back crevice of the salon. Given my prior experience with eyebrow waxing, I specifically told Natalie that I wanted to keep my eyebrows "thick," and the last thing I wanted was for them to be "too thin." I even recounted to her another eyebrow mishap where I ended up with "too thin" eyebrows. I can only conclude she wasn't listening to me very well or else, upon looking in the mirror, I wouldn't have been staring at Cruella de Ville. She ended up butchering about half of my original eyebrow hair and the shape is so straight and awkward, it looks like I just drew them in with a single stroke of an eyebrow pencil. Upon seeing my reaction or rather my shock, Natalie claimed that the majority of the thinness was because of her trimming my eyebrows, which apparently have a downward growth, and not due to her excessive waxing and tweezing. But, unless my eyebrow hair grows vertically (as in pointing to the center of the earth), she in reality, despite my spoken preferences and warning, completely over-waxed and over-tweezed the now dilapidated roots to my once full and lush brows. She even attempted to help remedy her error by coloring in my dismembered brows.

The only slight positive to this experience was that, seeing how upset I was, the receptionist told me that everything was free of charge. Unfortunately, this was not enough to make-up for what I lost. In my opinion, they should have paid me for what I endured, and must keep enduring for a very long time.

i got my eyebrows done before at this salon with another girl, who did an excellent job. well she is gone now so i got katherine and she burned my skin! i have a scar now where she waxed me it was awful! i told her it was burning and she tried to make it seem like that was normal. not to mention, she kept me waiting for about 30 min. this salon obviously does not properly train their employees!

I had been a long time customer at the Amadeus Spa Aveda at the Grove, but my stylist is no longer there, so I tried this Aveda. Big mistake... I went to Christie. First off, she ran 20 minutes late, which should've gotten me concerned. However, I had a big level of trust from my previous Aveda experience. She ended up hacking off around 3 extra inches off my hair. I didn't realize what she had done to the back, because she never checked with me as she was cutting it, but when she cut my bangs, she didn't check on how much to cut off, and wacked it short before I could react. When I said that it was way too short (but at this point, what could she do since it was already gone?) her response was "well at least you don't look like a little girl!" -- rather than an apology. At the end, when she showed me the back of my head, I was shocked, but again nothing could be done. My only fix is giving everyone else the heads up to think twice about going here. I certainly won't be returning. I noticed a number of people talked about the price as the reason they go to this place -- but you get what you pay for. The Amadeus Spa Aveda is twice as much, but well worth it. Go to the Amadeus Spa at the Grove instead.

The 50% off for first visit was great, and if you wait awhile between visits they'll mail you more discount offers. I liked the color advice and the professional atmosphere.

i am very picky about who cuts my hair and am not averse to switching salons/stylists if needed. happily, i haven't had to do that in over a year. i stumbled onto this place while shopping at del amo mall. what drew me in was that they use only aveda products - awesome! also the first visit is 1/2 price and your first eyebrow waxing is free. they take good care of you from the moment you walk in. you're asked to wait in a comfortable area with magazines and given tea. the salon is well-maintained and the staff is friendly. my first stylist wasn't the best fit for me but now i've been with the same one (chris means) for over a year now. she listens to what i want and makes suggestions if i have questions. she even shows me how to style my hair at home; i consistently get compliments on my haircut! (this is the only service i've had done here as i color my own hair.) as an added bonus, for any aveda products you buy, you get points towards aveda products/services. i like the reminder call for the visit and being able to schedule something with short notice. (they are good at calling if there's a cancellation.)

The 50% off first cut plus free eyebrow wax is what drew me in. The rates are otherwise not bad ($50 per haircut) but $150 for a facial. All Aveda products.

I just got my hair done here and i must say it was the most amazing experience i've ever had! The Salon is very beautiful and the receptionists were really friendly. They greeted me and offered me a beverage as i waited for my stylist, Princess. When i sat down in her chair, i told her that I wanted something new but nothing too drastic. I'm a mom with two kids and needed something low maintanence. She totally listened and even walked me through the haircut. After she dryed my hair, I felt like a whole new woman!!! My hair has never looked so AWESOME!! I was very pleased how my hair turned out and only paid $27.50. THATS ALL! I am definately going back and i recommend going to Princess.

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY ACTUALLY HIRE TALENTED PEOPLE. MELISSA CUT MY HAIR ALL OFF AND LEFT ME LOOKING LIKE I HAD A MULLET, I CRIED AT HOME FOR HOURS AND HOURS BECAUSE OF HOW SHE LEFT MY HAIR. I COMPLAINED TO THE MANAGER AND OWNER AND NEITHER WANTED TO RETURN MY CALL OR DO ANYTHING TO MAKE UP FOR THE 700.00 I HAD TO SPEND THE VERY NEXT DAY GETTING EXTENSIONS IN MY HAIR, THIS PLACE IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND THESE PEOPLE ARE INEXPERIENCED PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF A DISAPPOINTMENT.

I've been to pretty much all of the salons I've been recommended to by friends; and never had i been satisfied with the results- until I came to the Vicara in Torrance. Honestly, I came here because as I live right by del amo center, I pass by it everyday & I popped in and discovered that they were giving a 50% off discount. As I have very thick/lots of hair/hard to manage. most stylists tell me that I should feel lucky that I dont have thin hair and end up butchering my hair even more (like what they did at b2v- never go there!! overpriced compared to results!! Although I do hear their coloring is great) that for nearly a year, I went to various salons in order to repair this layering (more like a mullet imo) I had done. However, the girl @ Vicara (I believe her name was Danielle) did a fantastic job of working with the hair that the results came out fabulous!! My only regret is that I should have tipped her double for doing such a fantastic job.
Although the haircoloring / haircuts are both starting at around $75, maybe pricey for a local salon- I'm gladly going back this Saturday!

I went to Vicara for a haircut and highlights. I had been there once before and had a great experience ? one of the best I had with a stylist, who, unfortunately left the salon. Because she had done such a good job, I decided to stick with them, hoping that the new girl, Princess, would be just as talented. I was sorely disappointed. I don?t know what Princess was thinking about while she was doing my hair, but it certainly didn?t have anything to do with what we had discussed beforehand, despite repeatedly saying ?I know what you want and it will be find.? All I wanted were enough highlights in an auburn color to cover up my roots. Well, she rinsed out the highlights and dried my hair and it didn?t look like anything had been done. I mean it looked exactly like it had when I walked in. I figured I just needed to let everything ?settle? and that I would notice the highlights later on. Well, three days later, I still had major roots and the highlights that she did add were mostly underneath my hair and they were more blond than auburn. It was a mess. My friends even gave me their brutally honest opinions that it looked like I had not had my hair had not been cut or colored. I ended up going to another salon and the stylist there actually indicated that she had no idea what had been done to my hair, because it looked like my roots had been growing out for over three months. She indicated that she hated to criticize another stylist?s work, but that she had done a ?horribly unprofessional job.? The best part is that I was out $100. I don?t totally recommend avoiding the place altogether ? although it?s not super user friendly ? I actually witnessed a group of stylists standing together talking about one of the clients less than four feet away from her. However, if you do go, I highly recommend avoiding Princess. I think she indicated that she only had about a year or two of experience and it definitely shows. She was the worst stylist I ever had.
