Wow what a rip off!! They wanted $520 to fix a leaking faucet in the bath tub. I told them no and still had to pay $50 for them to just come out! Now I know how these guys stay in business. They obviously inflate their prices and when the customer says no they still make $50/call. Talk about a corrupt business mocel.

BTW I called another certified plumber and had it done for $150. Stay away from these vultures.

I after reading most of the reviews, I thought I would give them a try. The lady who answered the phone is very pleasant. Listened to my problem and promised a plumber within 2 hours. Jeff calls me in about 45 minutes and says he will be to my house in 15 minutes. So they 2 hours turns into 1. He comes to the door and asked me if parking his truck parking his in front of our house is OK? He then laid down a carpet mat on my front porch and put on red cloth booties on his shoes. We then proceed to the bathroom where my problem toilet was. He took a look and in a few minutes time figured out what the problem was. He then asked to look at the other toilets in the house to make sure they were working properly. I was a little concerned about what he might find, but it all worked our OK. He told me what the cost to make the repair was and explained the company guarantees. I didn't realize that they were going to warranty a toiler repair for 1 year. The last plumber guaranteed his work 30 day.
After he was done, he gave me some information about the company and offered to do a safety check of our water heater. He said that who ever installed the hot water heater did a good job and found it in good condition.
The price was a little more than I hoped, but at 60years old, I have learned that nothing of value is cheap.
I am glad that I read most of the reviews and did not get caught up in the few negative ones.

Pros: They show up and do what they say, and was neat

.

Their service was prompt, they went above and beyond the scope of the original work due to issues they found. The technician was extremely neat and clean - cleaning up the counter and replacing towels on the counter in the bathroom in which they worked. Who ever thought a plumber would work like that!

My next door neighbor told me to call Kevin Shaw Plumbing and they had a plumber to my house within an hour. They snaked out my tub drain and everything is back to normal. They did the work for the quoted price.

I did a lot of research on tankless water heaters and then made several phone calls. Kevin came out and discussed what our needs were and then made a recommendation. He suggested that I install a tankless for the house and install a booster heater at the kitchen since it is the farthest from the water heater and it takes a long time for the hot water to get there.
Jeff and Jose came out and got right to work and completed the job in one day. They even fixed our kitchen faucet for free. It has always had low water pressure.
I have already referred them to 2 other people. The price was more than I had hoped for, but I am glad I did it. They even threw in a year of service for free.

My wife called to inquire about getting a quote for some sewer work we need. We need to redo our entire sewer line and connect to the city sewer system.

The lady that answered the phone was pleasant enough, but then she transferred us directly to Kevin. From the second he answered, he had a terrible attitude and was very rude. His stern "hello" made us feel that we were "bothering" him and seemed to suggest a "what the he*** do you want" attitude. That was the first sign of how he does business, we saw.

The second "bad sign" was when we explained to him that we wanted to get a quote for connecting our sewer to the city. His immediate response, before we could even finish our description, was "there is a $195 consultation fee, and then an additional design fee." My first thought was, "Wow, this guy really doesn't care about getting business or meeting his customers needs, and doesn't even seem to want to understand his customers needs."

So, needless to say, we proceeded to thank him and before we could hang up, he quipped, "What!, ... did you expect a free estimate!" We didn't have time to respond, but, "Kevin, I expect a pleasant attitude, respect, a trustworthy professional, knowledgeable understanding ear, reasonable fees, and then maybe I'll see if you can EARN my business. And yes, a free estimate would be appreciated, unless you feel that you need to make all your money from your estimates because few people call you back to actually have YOU do the work, due to your exorbitant fees and terrible attitude!"

I am also surprised that they obviously feel they don't need the business, while many people are "starving" for work. I have many experiences with other construction contractors, and I can only say, that I feel fortunate to be able to avoid future unpleasantness with this company, since this type of experience typically reveals only a small portion of how they do business. Don't support business' that do business this way.

We had the totally opposite experience earlier in the day, when we called up a sewer contractor to get a quote. The guy was very pleasant, immediately offered to come out and look at the project and offer us a quote. He came in 2 hours, looked around, explained the additional information he needed in order to provide an accurate quote, we went immediately to the city to get the info, then back to the property, and said he wanted to come back tomorrow, to double check the elevation of where the sewer line would go, in order to be accurate with his estimate and not have any hidden surprises. How refreshing was that! If his estimate is anywhere close to reasonable, he is the one getting my business, for this project and any future one, as well.

If you read all the reviews about this company, you can feel that the only "real" ones are the negative ones. Anyway, save your money or give to a productive charity or other cause, instead of this guy.

Pros: The only pro was that he repelled us from using him.

Cons: Bad attitude, high price just for an estimate, rude

Our experience with Kevin Shaw Plumbing turned out to be a costly lesson in why it's important to call around and get pricing. We woke up one morning to discover that our plumbing was totally backed up; nothing was usable. Before he went to work my husband flipped through the phone book and pointed out Kevin Shaw Plumbing to me. "Here's someone in Monrovia," he said. "Let's give him a call and support a local guy." So as soon as I got the kids off to school I called Kevin Shaw. They were able to send a plumber out in a few hours and said something about a diagnosis fee that would have to be paid whether we used their service or not, but that seemed reasonable and I scheduled the appointment. The gentleman arrived on time and was very nice. He said that Kevin Shaw's policy was to charge a certain amount regardless what the job turned out to be. To unclog our plumbing the fee was $517, with the diagnosis fee added in. I had no idea whether this was usual or not and wanted to get the house in working order before the kids and husband were home, so I agreed to the cost and wrote out a check.

Unclogging our drains took about five minutes. We have an outdoor access drain so it was even easier than having to go through the kitchen sink. Altogether the plumber was at our house for fifteen or twenty minutes. When my husband got home he hit the roof. He had assumed that at the very worst, if the pipes were totally messed up, the cost would be around $200. For a quick and easy fix like ours he figured the cost would be much less. So he called Kevin Shaw's office for an explanation of what he felt was a ridiculous overcharge. The secretary there gave him Mr. Shaw's cell phone number, which my husband called. After explaining why he was calling, the call was suddenly "disconnected." When my husband called back, no one answered. He left a message that was never returned, then called back the next day and left another message that was also never returned. Another call to Mr. Shaw's office ended in the same way; message left but never returned. We wrote a letter saying that we understood we couldn't get our money back but just wanted an explanation of how Mr. Shaw's company could possibly charge that much money for such a quick and simple fix, and there was never any answer to that, either.

I understand that it's never pleasant to deal with unhappy customers, but it's unprofessional not to return calls or reply to letters. We also found out that other local plumbers don't charge anything near what Kevin Shaw does for this sort of service. In fact, one plumber is running ads on the radio stating that they'll unclog most drains for a flat fee of $99.

So, as I say, it was an expensive lesson, but one well learned.

They showed up on time and did a very nice job. As a small business adviser, I found this company to be very well run. They obviously have spent a lot of time learning how to run a professional company. Other contractors could learn a lot about how to run a business from Kevin Shaw and his staff. As far as price, I find them no more expensive than other premium service providers that I have consulted. As somebody else posted, they are more expensive, but with that said, I found the service well worth the money spent.

While the tech from Shaw was polite and prompt in scheduling their work, their pricing is absolutely atrocious. My wife stayed home to meet the plumber because I had unavoidable work commitments. She handles a lot of stuff around the house, but not plumbing repairs so I can't fault her for failing to recognize the plumber's obscene prices for what they were.

He charged $450 (this was after his "discount from $550 retail") to run a snake on a whole bathroom (mind you, this was not the main line, as everything else in the house was fine) and to "Treat it with chemicals". $450??! This wasn't more than two hours work. I've paid RotoRooter less than this to clean out a main line on a Saturday night. Anyone who says these prices are competitive should call around...I wish I had.

No plumbing service is worth $200+ per hour of work- no matter how nice they are. The plumber also couldn't quote a price to perform normal maintenance on our water softener- instead he just told my wife he'd replace it for $5,500. Man are they proud of their service...

And PS: Note that as of my review, every one of the reviewers below has only one review to their name. The same is true on other review sites I've seen for all except one reviewer who was badmouthing other local plumbers. That would leave me very skeptical.

I was getting 3 bids to replace my water heater. Kevin was the last guy I called. He was they only one that tried to help me make a good buying decision. The other 2 guys only offered me 1 water heater choice. Kevin Shaw gave me 6 different heater options to choose from. I really appreciated that I got to picke what was best for me. They came out the next day and did the job exactly as Kevin said they would. Very Pleased. Give them a try.

Kevin Shaw personally came by to supervise and assist the installation of a Rinnai Tankless water heater. They also installed a whole house water softener system for us He had three plumbers also working on the installation. I would highly recommend him for future installations and any other plumbing problems that we may have.

Kevin was real helpful in helping me to decide which water heater was the best for me. I decided on a Rinnai tankless. His 3 guys did a very nice job of removing the old unit and installing my new one. I got their name from the Rinnai web site which gave them a 5 star rating. I would have to agree with the high ratings they get.

These guys are the real deal. I have tried lots of plumbers and never felt like I was dealing with a company totally committed to real professional service. Kevin Shaw Plumbing has set the bar for great service. Call them. More than most but worth every penny and they guarantee their work in writing.

I finally found my plumber. I have been looking for a plumber that could do the job right the first time and at a fair price. The lady who took my call was very pleasant and made me feel at ease. She said they would call when they were on the way and she did. the plumber arrived right at the time they said they would. The plumber Jeff was very neat and clean and spoke very good English. I found that very refreshing. He explained exactly what I needed to have done and how he could make the problem disappear forever. He had everything he needed on the truck and did the job very quickly, which was important because I had taken time off from work to get this taken care of. After he finished he cleaned the place up and left it cleaner that before they arrived. I have found all plumbers to be expensive and for what he did, I didn't find the prices any more than what I have paid in the past. Considering the warranty they offer, I think I got great service. I would highly recommend Kevin Shaw Plumbing. Ask for Jeff as your plumber.

After a bad experience with another local company, I called Kevin Shaw, and wanted to make sure that they did background checks on their employees. I was assured that they did. They have very good credentials. They sent out Jeff and he did a very good job. I would call them again.

I needed a new water heater and a golfing buddy told me to call Kevin Shaw Plumbing. They came out right away and gave me 6 options to replace my water heater. I was very pleased with their service. The price was more than I expected to pay, but I feel I got a real quality job that was worth the money.

They came out and unstopped my kitchen sink late on a Friday afternoon. I didn't expect such fast service. While he was here, the plumber did a free courtesy inspection of my other drains. He found a blob of hair in my bathroom sink drain and fixed that for free. This was the fourth time I have used this company.
