Just so you know, SPA EXPO, owned by Larry Ekbom and his son, Randy Ekbom and formerly located at 274 Lindbergh Avenue, Livermore, CA has permanently closed.

No surprise, right? Unfortunately, the bad reviews are hurting other dealers that have nothing to do with the problems.

My husband and I purchased a spa at one of those spa shows at the county fair and everything has worked out just fine. Great spa, good dealer support.

I would advise you to take any nasty reviews with a grain of salt. Some people are just negative. Or they don't do their research or ask enough questions. And then they wonder why things don't work out?

We purchased our H2X Swim spa at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in June '08. We were told by Steve a salesman that delivery by crane would cost "the most $200" and he said that someone would explain how to care for the spa when it was delivered. We were charged $700 to crane the spa to our back yard and the delivery guys handed me a small box and CD and walked away. When I asked, " is someone going to teach me how to use the spa"? He said, "read the manual" and walked away. Then 13 days after the spa was delivered we noticed that the spa was leaking and when we contacted Randy, from Spa Pool & Patio Expo he did not want to be bothered and gave me a name to call, John from Spa Fixers who is the only Master Spa technician in the Bay Area. John came twice but our spa was still leaking. After much calling to Randy and once Larry we did not get any calls back. Several times Randy would put me on hold and call John's cell phone and unclick himself. John from Spa Fixers will not call back for days, he even made an appointment to fix the spa on a weekend he went to Reno. No one at Spa Expo calls you back or cares about this product. So I called Master Spas and even this company does not stand by their product. All parties; Master Spas, Spa Expo and Spa Fixers are all pointing fingers at each other on who will fix the problem. It's been 6 months since this spa was delivered and It is still leaking and we are STILL waiting for a call back from John. We wrote a letter to Larry Ekbom from Spa Pool & Patio Expo, I even filed a complaint with Business Bureau, no call back from Larry or Randy. I will follow the advise of previous reviewers and urge everyone to stay clear of these companies or you will get taken advantage of. I even saw an advertisement in the SF Chronicle recently, they were still currently having expos.

I wish I would have googled this company before I put down a deposit. My deposit was with a company named East Bay Spas, Hot Tubs & Supplies, LLC. It has taken me a year and a half to find this company who I found "went out of business" and was taken over by, yes, you guessed it, Larry and Randy Eckborn. In fact, these two guys, according to my conversation today with Randy, were the owners of East Bay Spas but closed down their store front working only out of a warehouse now. The former company went bankrupt, so obviously they "LLC'd" again into the new company, Spa Pool and Patio Expo. Randy says they took over all the former customers - well of course they did - they are the former owners! Randy says he'll call me back next week about my refund, but I don't expect to hear from him. I will file a complaint with the District Attorney's Office Consumer Protection Unit, 408-792-2880, and I WILL GET MY MONEY BACK AND HELP STOP THESE GUYS FROM STEALING. Tell your friends to stay away from these guys. Put the word out. . . . . I'm going to.

I am writing to warn others as well. I, too, fell for the scam at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and had a horrible experience. I will not go into the story as it is similar to another person who posted on the website about changing her mind and the 3 Day Right to Rescind Law. Spa Patio and Expo is the distributor, Larry Eckbom is the owner, and Master Spas is the distributor. I ended up filing a complaint with the District Attorney's Office in Santa Clara County. It took sometime but I got my deposit refunded with the help of a woman who was in the Consumer Protection Unit. I urge you to do the same, FILE A COMPLAINT with the Office of the District Attorney Consumer Protection Unit, phone 408-792-2880. It is the only way to stop this company. Master Spas is being sued by the Department of Justice in the State of Wisconsin, google: DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FILES ACTION AGAINST SPAMAN WHOLESALE INC. AND CRAIG W. HUEFFNER, DOING BUSINESS AS MASTER SPAS OF WISCONSIN, FOR VIOLATIONS OF WISCONSIN'S CONSUMER ACT

If you decide to call and file a complaint let them know that your are not the only one. Print out a copy of this yelp page.
I would like to file a complaint with the State, so that this company is on the radar, but I am not sure it is possible now that they have refunded my money.

1. Sales man made all sorts of promises up front about discount, etc...
2. No accountability. Sales is from one company, manufacturing is one other company, and Delivery/shipping is another company (drop off only), Service and repair is another company.

Here is the story, after many unsuccessful reaching out to their sales guy of my concern, who basically took the money and run, he did not bother to answer or return my call:
There are many many disappointments overall (workmanship, quality, shortcuts, safety violations), but this is the very last one that stuck to my mind for a while. I made a 16' Everswim spa purchase, a price tag of over $20K. The contract said it would have standard cover with lift. Guess what? They did not ship me the lifts for the cover. When I called them up and query about it, they finally ship me one set of Cover Mate I (a $127 value). Well, my spa is a 16' spa, and has two sets of fold up covers. Each span for 8'. So, when they ship me one lift cover, it is only good for half of the spa. I called them up, and they basically nickle-and-dime me, telling me that most people only lift up one side? yeah, that is on a 8' spa, not a 16' spa, you idiots. This spa is over 4' in height, and it would not be practical to remove the other cover manually without the lifter. I tried to follow up with them to send me the second set of lift arm, but no calls were returned. I am glad I am found this site for review. Now, I am able to get the word out on your sales and ripoff tactics.. Since then< i placed an order for similar lift arm on eBay at $127. I'll be filing a report with Better Business Burea about this as well. Don't expect to rip people off and get away with it....
BUY FROM THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Pros: It is a nice spa, if the quality and service, and sales and customer service can be improved.

Cons: Garage type of operation. Not world class at all. Operation manual is a xerox of some other document, and not for actual product purchased.

This company teams up with Master Spas to hold Spa Sales at places like the Cow Palace, Santa Clara Fairgrounds, Concord, etc. All the signage leaves you to believe that there are various dealers attending. I believe if you really tracked back 1-800- or 1-888-spa-sale, the money would lead back to Master Spa.

The men that attend the show to sell for Spa Expo, Spa Depot or Spa, Pool and Patio Expo (one company with three names) are two guys named Kevin and Joe. Both fellows are extremely nice, personable and someone that you just want to buy from. I now believe that neither salesperson has a direct employee affiliation with the dealer names listed above.

I recently purchased a Master Spa H2X Swim Spa. The spa would not start up. Dead on delivery. Randy a VP at Spa Expo, Spa Depot or Spa, Pool and Patio Expo (go do searches on all three) could not be bothered to contact the 3rd party company that will actually fix your spa. You will be unable to contact Master Spa directly. Master Spa will shuffle you back to this dealer and people you do not know and have never met.

I did research on the swim spa. I knew who had the better ones and who didn't. Where I goofed was not going to sites like this and realizing that in the end I would be stuck with a dealer that can't be bothered. Your purchase will be written up as a sale for one of the companies listed above. The company listed on your sales order will be your ASSIGNED DEALER. The company on the sales order will NOT call you back. They will NOT provide service. They will NOT even provide an answer on how to get service.

Do some research about how the service will be provided. Do some research with the Secretary of State about corporatations that are suspended. Do some research on the web on these company names.

Master Spa may make a good spa but sitting with a dead VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE swim spa in your back yard for 20 days while the dealer you are stuck with totally screws you off - not fun!!!!

I went to the San Jose Fairgrounds expecting to go to a pool and spa "expo". Once inside I discovered it was only one company represented. Master Spas, and the name of the distributor was "Pool and Spa and Patio Expo".
After speaking with a salesman, Kevin Wright, for a couple of hours, he reminded me of the 3 day "cooling off" law. I put a deposit of nearly $3000 on the spa. The next morning I decided to go with a Jacuzzi Spa and sent Mr Wright and the company an e-mail cancelling my order. After several e-mails back and forth, one in which Mr Wright said he agreed with me, he said I had to deal with the owner, Larry Ekbom
I e-mailed Mr. Ekbom with no response, then sent him a registered letter. He responded by telling me the cooling off law doesnt apply. I had sent him a copy of the law clearly showing it did.
I am now working a local consumer information group hoping to resolve my complaint. Next step, small claims court.

This company also has an address of 274 Lindbergh Ave, Livermore, Ca.

I believe these folks have several business names. Spa Expo, Spa Pool and Patio Expo and East Bay Spa.
I attended their San Jose Expo and purchased a spa. When I returned 2 hours later to show it to a friend they told me I had purchased a damaged floor model and would have to sign a release form. They failed to deliver the spa on the contracted week and when it finally arrived it looked terrible. I refused to accept it. I am disputing the Credit Card charge and suing them along with several other actions that may well serve to teach them a needed lesson. The word "slippery" comes to mind. When I refused delivery their very rough looking guys tried to bulley me into it. They tried to drop it on my driveway...then the street. When I called the police they relented. Then they returned and tried again. I called the police and they left.

Be careful with this company. I just purchased a $25,000 swim spa from them. While we were signing the contract, I asked them not to proceed the order until I go home to do some measurements. The swim spa is an above-ground pool w/ 8 ft. wide and 16 ft. long. I was afraid my side yard would not fit. I called them the same night (3 hours later after the contract is signed) and told them to cancel. They told me that the contact has been faxed in to the dealer and it is too late. There is nothing that they can do. I asked to speak w/ the owner but he has never returned my call. Be careful w/ these people.
