Everyone has seen the cool door guys at nightlclubs. This foor guy at Vessel was not cool at all!!! The Ethiopian Guy at the door stated that he would not let us in because a member of our party, a young woman, was not allowed in?? We were shocked and didnt understand his reasoning??That was strange because we had never been there before and it was impossible for us not to be let in the club for something we had done in the passed. I dont suggest going to this place as the door guy was so rude and obnoxious to a young lady of our party that I almost think he had a mental issue of some sort. I am just letting everyone know because I dont feel people should give them business in an economy where people are struggling and a door guy is rude to people outside. The individual at the door needs to understand that you can not do that to people. It is very disturbing to find such a low-grade door person at the door who doesnt understand that nightlcub business is about being a marketable place to enjoy yourself. Word of mouth is king. And facebook can hurt a business or make it. Be prepared to be stopped and Not to be allowed in and be stopped at the door because of an individuals, in this case the bouncer/door guy, short comings and possible hangups about discriminating and profiling people at the door. Bottom line - Dont go here - the door guy may not let you in for no reason at all or reasons unknown???

Cons: Very Rude Bouncer - July 23 -Bouncer at Door Rude

After a $20 cover, I was hoping it would be fun, but the music was TERRIBLE and the atmosphere was just okay. I won't be going back there and would not recommend it to any of my friends.

I was at a private party at this bar and removed with no justification because I was "intoxicated". I hadn't had a drink in over 90 minutes and was literally sitting on the stage near the bar along with dozens of other folks minding my own business. I'm writing this right when I got home - judge my "intoxication" for yourself. When I returned to dispute my removal in front of my friends and colleagues I was bodily threatened by the doormen and owners. It is readily apparent that there is Russian Mob influence behind the scenes at this location, because they came out of a previously unseen door when I was "making a scene". This location is not safe and not worthy of your patronage.

Rented the VIP table with friends. Couldn't lift a leg for two hours because the music SUCKED. I felt sorry for people without a booth, standing still for a long time with their drinks in the middle of the dancefloor with hopes for the music to change. Our host explained that the DJ was a no show at the last minute and they had to literally bring someone off the street. Slowly everyone started to dissappear and we asked for our money back, but they refused to do so. I'm VERY dissappointed.

If you want to have fun and dance, consider going to a better club. Last time my 6 friends and I went to Vessel, we all had a very unpleasant experience: dj did not show up, there was no room to stand, let alone dance, music was aweful, place was stuffy. We politely asked for a $140 cover charge refund as we were not told there was no dj and no room to move and we were literaly kicked out by staff serving the club and that's after we were repeteldy yelled at by other men working in the club for standing on steps, putting our purses on the floor, standing close to columns, etc. It was a truly shocking experience.

Unless getting beaten up by Hwang's henchmen appeals to you, I would definitely recommend avoiding this place!

Nice venue. I loved the atmosphere. However, on the night I went the music sucked. They kept playing the most random songs and nothing that you could dance to. The crowd is also much older, think 30s-40s.

The Journey to get o Vessel and this "exclusive" pass word only party was pretty HOT. I'm not much of the over rated stuffy SF club scene, but I will say I was truly impressed with Vessel. The doormen, very professional, the descend to the club was like entering a Futuristic Club of 2027" great Set Up and Table Service.. ON POINT ..., beverages, wait staff and the Unisex bathroom with attendants. . Mixed Crowd, great balance on with the gender thing....ALL AROUND Excellent place to take an out of towner and/or to share time with friends.. Vessel was great.

Pros: Exclusivity or the Apperance of...

Cons: Closed in Smoking Room & Parking, but hey it's SF

.

So I just went to this place last night, and I have to say...for the price, for the "exclusivity"...they need to invest in some AC! It was 92 degrees in there! If I wanted to do Bikram yoga...there's a place close by that does't charge a cover. Also, there were about 900 single women in that club and about 20 single men. Good for the guys, terrible for the ladies. Incredibly sweet bartenders, however, and the club itself is beautiful. Also, I don't agree with the folks in the other reviews about the doormen...they were fantastic and very helpful. In fact, I only had a problem with one musclehead inside and he was just trying to keep people moving out of the walkways. I heard this place was hard to get into, but there was some serious riff raff...grubby jeans and tee shirts, along with some college guys in polos and jeans who looked like they rolled in there by mistake. On second thought...maybe the doormen were too nice.

Don't go unless your white. My friend had a table but, i was unable to get in. Then they let 10 people go in who were all caucasian because they had a friend who had a table. I had girls come out and try to get me and they were just rude. So have fun unless your asian then just wait out side while white and black folks get in.

My boyfriend and I, along with a gathering of friends, met this past Saturday at Vessel to celebrate his birthday. It was my first time there, and I loved it!! I'm originally from LA, so I understand what some of the other reviewers were referring to when they said that this lounge was on the exclusive/high-end side. Sure the bouncers were selective, but this is not always a bad thing- the ambiance was kept at a nicer (read: less rowdy) crowd, and the lounge didn't become a messy mob of people bumping drinks into each other. I would suggest that if you are meeting a larger group of friends, book a half or full table. This allows you to add whomever you wish to the guest list to ensure that they get in (8 ppl for half table, 15 for full). Saturday nights get pretty crowded around midnight, so plan to arrive early to avoid the long lines. Now for the decor: the lighting was perfect- not so dim that you can't see the person next to you, yet just bright enough that it felt like you could see the full array of the entire lounge- all the way to the bar! The reserved tables were very comfy. The suede sofas were HUGE and the tables were sturdy (sounds silly, but some clubs have the most awful flimsy tables that can't even hold more than three drinks, which takes away from the overall convenience of the place). Overall, as trendy and modern as the furnishings were, Vessel also had a cosiness about the place. The staff was EXCELLENT! I cannot say enough about the awesome hostess who was very professional, the cleanup crew who came to our table to tidy up nearly every half hour, and even the very pleasant coat-checker (who offered us champagne at the door!). Arrive early and enjoy the Saturday house music! Highly recommend Vessel- great place for gatherings!! :o)

Cons: Crowded after midnight, A bit difficult to get drinks at the bar

Bring a woman with you, otherwise you better be ready to "talk green." I kid you not, 1:45 am, and I couldn't get in without a girl, even AFTER my friends, who were girls, came up from inside the club to ask the doorprick to let us in. Ridiculous.

That said, best club I've been to in SF. Great sound system. Good bartenders the times I've been there.

One of the only, if not the only one, decent clubs in San Francisco. Finally a place with some nice looking and nicely dressed people slightly resembling what you would find in real cities like Miami or NYC. Definitely a step in the right direction for the club scene wasteland of San Francisco. Not too hard to get in (just grease the doorman's hand if you don't have girls with you). Only bad thing is that they play House Music only on Saturdays, so avoid Fridays unless you think Hip Hop is cool. One thing: it's truly non-sense that for $250 you get half-table but no bottle!!! What are these people thinking?!?I Not even South Beach or NYC clubs do that!

Went for a friend's birthday not too long ago, and I had a different experience. Maybe it was because we had reserved a table or something, but we were all having so much fun that we opted not to go to our second destination. It is in an alleyway but I kind of liked that. It was hidden and questionable from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised when we entered. The gentlemen at the door were very nice, offering to take our coats and show us to our tables etc.

Dancing ensued later that night, and so did the crowds! If there were any downsides to this place is was this, fighting your way up to the bar, fighting to get the bartenders attention, and then carefully making it back to the table after order your drink, oh yeah, one hour later! But the only reason we had to go to the bar when we had a table was that our cocktail waitress has her hands full and wasn't frequenting our space as often as she had been a the beginning of the night.

But all in all, it was a fun night. And I sort of like the "L.A. thing" (not the rudeness though), maybe it's because I'm originally from there?

Pros: Music, ambience.

It all started with the rediculously rude and pointlessly pretentious doormen. Adding this bad attitude to being hyper-expensive and in a dingy location made this night on the town one that I am not looking to duplicate. The big payoff of getting past the list-nazi is the small, uneasy crowd amidst the pounding music. Go to Azul up the alley instead. Better music, better atmosphere, better service, more comfortable, and less expensive.

As an SF native, I rarely go out near Union Square because most clubs cater to a tourist crowd. This place seems to have been transplanted directly out of LA and brought all the negatives with. The location is as poor as the doorman's attitude, a dark alley - complete with homeless camp and trash dumpsters. Lots of better places in the city to spend my money...

I went to Vessel for the first time not expecting much from the previous reviews on CitySearch and I was more than pleasantly suprised. Everyone at the door was very helpful and accomodating, the bartendars were quick and attentive, the place was beautiful..... almost as beautiful as the crowd of people sitting on the couches, dancing on the tables and swinging each other around on the dance floor. I laughed the whole night. I didn't want to leave, but there is only so much fun people are allowed to have on a Tuesday night!!!! Thanks Vessel!

The place tries to create a sense of pretentiousness that just doesn't work. The physical location is nice, but the staff has a lot of arrogance for some reason. Whatever.

Go there once if you must check it out, but don't go with high hopes. It's very disappointing and there are much better places around.

Ok I got a table and I first came up to the line and was told they were not letting anyone else in at 11 pm. I was like I have a table. I walk in and it is pretty nice place not even packed, pathetic, I guess I didn't meet the height and look requirement. After a while the music really got to me, way too loud. Could not talk with my group bc every where you look there is a speaker. I will not recommend if you are with a group or a date. I will recommend if you are trying to ignore someone. Now the place was not that packed and I would like to thank the genius who planned to put the bar on the side where this no more than 6 to 8 feet by 20 feet to get to the bar. I went another night and I had the worst three liquor drinks that I to switch up to beer and wine. Ok I don't mind you charge 8 to 10 a drink but put some alcohol in those MOFOs. Don't go, don't waste your money. Get beer or Wine at least you know the alcohol content.

It's a really good place to dance and chat. The music system in great. The sound is loud and clear, while you can still hear people talk without having to get too close. The drinks and tables are more expencive than other places, but worth it. It's really romantic and pretty inside. The set up in luxyrious. upscale, well dressed peeps everywhere.

This place has "bouncers" who are full of themselves and like to give patrons attitude. Definitely NOT a classy place. The decor is cheesy and the drinks are mediocre at best. Spend your money elsewhere. There are nicer bars/clubs/lounges in the city that have better decor, ambiance and eye candy.

I attended an event here prior to it's opening so I didn't get the full impact, but what I saw was fantastic. It is a totally cool and hip space. It is located downstairs which gets a bit hot when it's crowded. This is a great place to bring a large group of people. The big couches and big tables provide plenty of room for a comfortable evening.
