While I miss the fish and chips that briefly debuted along with fried ocra (still at sister restuarant Chenery Park, if I need a fix, sans okra), the menu always has a number of things I love. The wild mushrrom ravioli is always great - a really big ravioli. The chai tea smoked pork has a deep smokey taste. Mac & cheese is nice and rich without getting carried away. Dry-aged tri-Tip is awesome too.

The service is is attentive without being in your face. Perfect.

There are several rooms, each with a unique atmostphere. Downstairs is a really nice though fairly standard dinner setting. Upstairs is a fabulous bar serving well mixed drinks. Out back is a quiet, outdoor oasis.

The one downside: Don't have any expectation about how long it will take you to find parking.

They were right on their website. Parking took longer but I am glad I went. Though the place is cozy, I did not feel crowded or encroached upon by others. It had nice ambience. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. My lobster bisque had some nice pieces of meat in it and was hearty and tasty. My friend's shrimp cocktail featured huge shrimp and a nice sauce. His roast duck he raved about. A nice piece of meat well cooked. My steak was trim and just ok but definitely not fatty (overly marbled?) like I have read on here. The drinks were good and not watered down. Overall, it was a nice experience though I would not insist on going again soon..

Pros: Ambience, in Castro, Drinks

Cons: Parking, Value

Eureka restaurant isn't a place that requires much more than to say it has poorly trained staff who know virtually nothing about the food or wine they serve, a kitchen that reminds me of a third-world roadside, and an atmosphere as interesting as a funeral parlor.

The steak tasted as if it were grilled over cigarette butts and was over 40% fat even though the manager tried to convince me it was 'marbled', the fish was not fresh, the bread was stale, the fries were obviously frozen, and all of this for about $60+ per person.

The staff went out of their way to be gossipy and uninformed, the kitchen went out of it's way to produce low quality dishes with zero creativity in a city of food lovers, and the management went out of their way to over-charge for mediocrity.

This restaurant is a miss on so many levels, take your tastebuds and money elsewhere.

Pros: it's open???

Cons: food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere

We've been to Eureka Rest. several times. Food is not that good, which makes the place too expensive for what it has to offer.

Servers are usually nice and knowledgeable of the menu details. Host is kind and friendly but, last time we were there he asked us to leave as soon as we finished with our meals, because he needed the table -he said-. After the amount of money we paid to eat at that place, that was not pleasant at all. As for us, we're not coming back ever.

Pros: Wines & beverages

Cons: Too expensive compared to food quality and host's lack of courtesy

Ordered the ribeye and it arrived as mostly a piece of fat. Complained to the waitress (who was very good) and the manager's response was "Sorry. Sometimes they are more marbled than others." This was not simply overly marbled it was a bad piece of meat. No reason to risk it here when so many steakhouses in SF put out a consistently good product. Look elsewhere....

Had a great meal at Eureka restaurant. I had the tri tip cooked to a perfect medium rare. It came with delicious mashed potatoes and perfectly grilled pea pods. My one guest had the chicken which I tried and it was great. I will have it on my next visit. My other guest had the pork chop which was perfectly moist. We each started with a salad. I had a good cesar with a real anchovy on top and my guests each had the beet salad. We were all pleased. It is so nice to have a restaurant of this quality in the Castro and at such a good value. 3 starters, 3 main courses, and 3 glasses of wine and coffee for $135.00. The atomosphere was beautiful and relaxing and the service was EXCELLENT. I will return and I highly recommend it.

Pros: Everything

A $30 steak should not be 95% fat and only 5 % meat and should not be served on a HUGE pile of mashed potatoes. Very disappointing!

Pros: Ambiance, Service, BIG Martinis

My boyfriend randomly picked this place from OpenTable and what a nice surprise! The hostess was great, made us feel right at home. He set the expectation for good service; the rest of the staff picked it up and was on par for the rest of the evening! We had a couple of appetizers - both pretty solid, but the crab croquets were a bit salty and the mushroom ravioli a little oily but the flavor . The main dishes were wonderful. Duck was perfectly cooked packed with great, smoky flavors. The filet was delicious as well; they definitely know how to prepare medium rare. All around great dining experience. I won't forget to mention the drink - had the margarita and raspberry kiss, both wonderful!

Had a great meal the other night at this redone space...love the green walls...very soothing...sit upstairs in the winter in front windows and near the fireplace...very cozy and fun to watch the world go by outside. Had great triple cream blue cheese appetizer and a wonderful, flavorful (and REALLY big) pork chop, actuallt couldn't finish it all, so it was a nice snack later.

Pros: soothing space, really nice people and service

Cons: a little tight between tables

Eureka is a first class operation with terrific food prepared and served by serious restaurant pros! The lamb was among the best in the City and the house-smoked sturgeon with caviar was beyond perfection! Bravo!

Pros: Sophisticated, well prepared, delicious food with professional service

Cons: The stairs to the upstairs dining room are steep

What a disappointment.

We waited a month after Eureka opened to dine there, thinking that would be enough time for the glitches to shake out. Apparently not.

The space itself is beautifully done and very pleasant. The food, though, was absolutely mediocre. Crab cakes were overly spiced and incredibly dry. Steaks were poor quality and not properly cooked. Presentation was horrible, with everything hacked up and stacked on mounds of mashed potatoes.

Then, there was the service. The upstairs bartender, who was standing idle when we arrived, wouldn't make us drinks saying "Your server will be right with you." . . . She showed up nearly 10 minutes later. Downstairs, our 4 meals arrived at different times. The wait staff was completely unpersonable. And, when I asked for a "couple of lemon wedges," (to try and moisten my crab cakes), I barely got a lemon TWIST from the bar, and it took 20 minutes.

We also had a 'pet peeve.' The table was set with trendy-design silverware. The knives are twisted, as part of the design, and are very difficult to hold and use. It's a small thing, and was a great source of amusement, but they really need to go!

Finally, there are the prices. This place didn't warrent a $350 bill, for 4 people, excluding cocktails. I'm not even sure the neighborhood can handle that kind of pricing.

We were looking forward to a nice restraunt in the area, and hoping for a refreshed version of the Red Grill, which formerly occupied the space, Sadly, Eureka is neither and we won't be back.
