Expect to order and share, because you're a real fatty if you can finish a whole order by yourself. Free refills on soda which is good for me because all the food makes me thirsty.

I am a BBQ junkie and have been to Memphis, Texas, and Kansas City and Phil's is better then these so called best BBQ Cities. We are so lucky that it's right here in SD.
Do what bac02 says call in your order no waiting in a long line out

Get to Phil's Early or phone in your order. The atmosphere is part of Phil's charm, but if the line doesn't wrap around the corner you in luck! The ribs and pulled pork sandwhichs are the best you find in all of San Diego. I stop into Phil's whenever I am in town!

Cons: Always a long line

Phil's baby back ribs are awesome! And they know how to steam veggies! Upbeat vibe. Highly recommended. Saturday night at Phil's -- anytime!

My review is too short so I am adding some text.

The line may out the door and headed down the street but if you can wait it out you will not be disappointed. Phil's has the best ribs in San Diego as well as some of the largest portions for such a low price.

Phils BBQ always has a long line out the door. That long line shouldn't scare you away. It moves pretty fast. the food is so good, that you will want to wait in the line. My only complaint is that you can't get your alcoholic beverages with your food, you have to go to the bar to get it. But, that is totally fine with me... the bbq ribs and chicken are worth it.

I have had BBQ from the Carolinas to Tenessee to Texas and I have yet to find tastier ribs than the ones at Phil's BBQ in San Diego. MMMMMMM, sunshine and lip smackin' barbecue! Not only are the ribs to die for, but the Broham (pulled pork) sandwich is completely addictive. The BBQ chicken is smokey and delicious, the cole slaw has a little kick to it, and the onion rings are crispy and yummy. Do yourself a favor and go check out Phil's.

I've been in San Diego for the past four years and this has to be the best BBQ place I've been to since first coming to this fine city. Great atmosphere, HD televisions placed inside in case you want to catch the game, and amazing food. There is a bar right next to the actual restaurant, so if you feel like having a drink while you wait or after this great meal then it's a nice compliment to dinner.

Big place, always busy, and the food is decently priced. I would highly recommend for a big party or even a dinner for two. Not a great date place if you want to get close, does get loud but that's what makes it so great.

Phil's has the most amazing BBQ you will find in San Diego. The meat is so tender and juicy that it falls off the bones. The fries are also very tasty. The servings are huge and will fill you up. If you are with other people, you can share orders of ribs and get a better deal. Overall the BBQ is superb and will get you full. The line also moves very quickly so do not be discouraged by a long line. The only downfall is that you may get messy but they provide bibs and sinks and hand wipes!

Best BBQ in San Diego. Food comes out fast. It's an extremely casual dining experience. It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant, but the food is great.

Pros: Great Ribs

Phil's is the best bbq you can get when you are in San Diego. A friend of mine took me to Phil's over the weekend and even though I've had better BBQ in Texas, their beef ribs are the best in the city. I just wish they had brisket.

Finally got to the new Phil's and ordered for pick-up. It was a bland Tuesday night everywhere else except this place - it was hoppin! Although there were designated lines for phone orders & walk-in orders posted OUTSIDE, there was only 2 other people in front of me. in the phone-in order line. Too bad for the walk-in orders though - it must have been 30 people deep. After paying, I only had to wait 5 minutes for my order. During that time, I looked around a bit and saw that about every table was full, but this is no surprise because they have the BEST DAMN RIBS ever!

After I picked up my grub, I hightailed it outta there and drove back home to downtown. Unfortunately I got stuck in Padres traffic. Fortunately I ordered the onion rings - which I've been told were excellent. Being the first time for me to get them, I just HAD to try a bite before they got cold. Needless to say, the rest never made it back home. I ate ALL the onion rings on the way home!

If you haven't tried this place, go for the pork ribs & onion rings with ranch. You'll dream about them afterwards!
